This is place is adorable, and so under the radar. I've walked by it a bunch without even noticing it but today I happened to look up and thought it looked like a much better choice than Starbucks for caffeine. I only had an iced coffee but the baked goods and pastries look incredible (and kind of a nice change from the donut/cupcake/cookie zeitgeist that seems to be everywhere these days.). I definitely want to return!
Pricey. However, it will fulfill any sugar cravings you may have.
Had the oreo cake slice and the red velvet cupcake. Both were decadent and flavorful.
They also have free wifi, some seating and tap water (upon request)
We've tried a lot of their cakes. Some are better than others. The coconut cake was a bit too rich with nothing to balance but the red velvet, chocolate and carrot are all winners! Love love the seasonal pumpkin cake.
I'd walked by Betty Bakery many times and finally seized the opportunity to stop in. It's located on Atlantic Ave and offers beautiful window displays that change with the season/holiday.
They seem to be most known for their cakes and they're beautiful and can be customized for your event. As it was just me, I opted for a single cupcake. Vanilla on vanilla and it was very fresh and tasty. Other options included pies, cookies, rice Krispy treat, and individual cake slices.
Prices were commensurate with most higher end bakeries in this area. Would definitely recommend for a special event where you want to showcase a one of a kind cake!
I needed to go to Michael's for some craft supplies and while I was walking down Atlantic, I noticed a little bakery with a line out the door. My boyfriend has a sweet tooth the size of his entire jaw, so I mentally bookmarked the bakery for my way back in the hopes that the line would be a little smaller.
Thankfully, on the way back I was able to fit inside the store. The store is pretty small, but there is a counter to eat and drink your purchases with a cute little antique stove in the corner. Maybe it was because it was a little later in the day, maybe it was because that line from the morning cleaned out the place, but I thought the selection would be a little bigger? Not to worry, my boyfriend will not go hungry! I'm sure I can find something he will eat. While the selection was on a smaller side of things, they had "twinks" which I can only imagine are twinkies. I have actually never had a twinkie in my life (true story!), so that wasn't that appealing to me. I DID see marzipan frogs! FROGS! Made out of maripan! Those I had to talk myself out of. I was a little annoyed that the assorted cookies could only be purchased in pound (or quarter pound) increments. My boyfriend, as much as he would disagree, does not need a quarter pound of cookies. So, I bought my boyfriend two cupcakes and myself the rustic pie.
While I'm not the biggest dessert person, I am a serious pie girl. Love me some apple pie! I ordered my items (the girls were really nice), thought about eating my pie in the store, changed my mind and headed out. The pie was perfect. Sugar crust, not too sweet. Apples with a couple of strawberries. Baked to perfection. It's sad for me to say this, but my pie did not make it home. I realized I was super hungry and had not eaten all day and well, I have this pie… And well look at that, the people at the store were nice enough to think I needed a fork in my pie box!. Next thing you know, there are only crumbs left. I don't know what happened! I guess I'll just have to go back and get another.
It is a little on the pricey side, but it's downtown brooklyn, and they do make all their stuff.
May I tell you how delicious this bakery smells inside??! Not to mention, staff is very sweet.
So many different options to choose from. Pie is absolutely delicious. The presentation is adorable!

A little disappointed when I stopped by here. Was super excited to try it out, because their pictures and online menu looked great. And I was hoping to get a good taste of their baking skills/concoctions so I could get cakes made for a wedding reception.
First, I did want to mention the positives :
-although a small space, it was cozy, clean, and the cashier girls were super sweet and friendly. There are a few seats by the window, but that's it. It's not exactly a place to linger, in my opinion.
Now onto the actual treats themselves:
Slice of chocolate layer cake- The cake seemed dry, and maybe because it had been pre cut? The frosting was OK, not overly sweet, so that's probably a personal preference.
Vanilla/vanilla cupcake- I didn't taste any vanilla in the cake when I ate the cake alone. Also dry, and not moist/fluffy or light. I couldn't even finish mine, and my husband was surprised since I love all kinds of sweets and have been known to finish something I bought even if it was mediocre.
Chocolate/chocolate cupcake- Similar to the chocolate layer cake.
Ring ding – the best thing I got. The cake was moist, and that was surprising. Either it was freshly baked, or the nature of the cake itself — the cream added moisture to the cake, or because the cake had a solid/hard chocolate shell around the cake protecting it from air and thus keeping it fresher? It was my favorite and if I was around the area, maybe I'd stop by to get one.
The prices are OK, I guess, not cheap, but comparable with any other cupcake/bakery all over the city. So it didn't really stun me or turn me off. I knew what I was getting into. I just wish that for what I was paying, I got something I actually enjoyed and could finish.
Also, make note that the menu seems extensive, however, once you walk inside, you don't see any of it. I'm not sure if I came in on a bad day or off hour, but I didn't see half the things I wanted to order. Perhaps I had to request it, but part of the fun is seeing the pastry/baked good before ordering.
Yeah, this place is probably a little over rated and definitely over priced, but it is what it is. I tried the "Twinkie" at $3.25 and frankly, it wasn't anything all that much better tasting than a regular Twinkie. I was kind of expecting it to knock my socks off with freshness etc. I'll opt for the Ring Ding next time, at just under $5. Prices here are high, but gotta pay the rent, I'm sure. The people were very nice, and there is a wide variety of colorful creations here, you just need to know what you want and savor it.
