Bi Won

“They use charcoal which is a plus and the vacuum tube thing slides all the way down so your clothes dont end up reeking by the end of the meal.”

“This place has become my favorite Korean restaurant in Queens over the years because their food, service and quality of food is so consistent.”

“FYI, although all the food here is great, Biwon is most famous for their BBQ and Mool Naengmyun () so if it's your first time here go for both.”

  1. This was my first experience at Bi Won with a couple of friends… and I had mixed reviews. The quality of the meat we ordered, beef, chicken and duck, were of good quality. Meat was fresh and sliced generously. However, my friend and his girl, ordered a Teriyaki Chicken with rice on the side. Chicken was so dry; disgusting. Rice was mushy.

Aside from that, my other big complaint was that the waitress who was helping us, perhaps thought we were all idiots or something.. She proceeded to cook our meat for us. Part of the whole dining experience is to cook our own food! No one in our group knew how to speak Korean and the work staff, their English was terrible. At some points during our meal, I seriously wanted to take the tongs away from her and say just, Fcuk Off!

    Meh.

  2. I suppose a four star rating is fitting.

Biwon never got the respect it deserved from me because when it comes to Korean BBQ, I swear by a couple of places in Queens (Ooso Boso and Mapo). Though that might have something to do with  knowing the owners of those restaurants.

I've always been curious about Biwon, so I made my way over with a party of 6 adults and 2 munchkins. We called about half an hour ahead, and were told that if we could make it in 15 minutes, we'd be seated immediately. I drove recklessly. We were seated immediately.

We sat in one of their side rooms as the tables in the main dining section were either taken or couldn't accommodate such a number. We were rather hungry so we ended up having 7 orders of their Yangnyum Galbi, which translates into marinated galbi, and galbi is marinated beef. So….yeah.

Their side dishes are plentiful. Stew, eggs, kimchi, several other veggies, fish cake, marinated raw blue crab (special), dried shrimp, mool kimchi, potato salad, pickled cucumbers etc. The kimchi was just poor. That mool kimchi though. Makes you feel as if you're back on the homeland.

The meat was incredible. Marinade on point, ideal thickness of the cut, and plentiful. Biwon might be #3 on my list now.

Towards the end, we ordered some mool naengmyun (cold buckwheat noodles in a chilled broth) and some bibim naengmyun (same concept but no broth, and spicy.) Biwon is nifty here; they have a "half/half" choice, which means they bring you a partitioned aluminum dish with both types. Nifty nifty. Of course, the portions are halved as well, but this is a great choice for those who love both types of preparation (me.) The noodles weren't the best, but definitely still pretty good. The missing star is thanks to the level of service throughout the night. Yes, they were busy, yes it was a Saturday night, but on one occasion, we actually had to walk to the kitchen area to get someone's attention.

Aside from that, Biwon is a great little place for Korean BBQ cravings if you're in Bayside and don't want to drive out to Flushing. I don't remember the cost, but you can just scan my AmEx statement if it pleases you.

  3. Yup. Still a 5 star on my radar. This place has become my favorite Korean restaurant in Queens over the years because their food, service and quality of food is so consistent. I've never been disappointed coming here. Also, they've been getting really good with their banchans, which is always a plus.

OH and how could I forget to mention their nengmyun ban-ban.. I came here to eat this every other week during this past summer. Did you know it's the only Korean restaurant that serves both mool nengmyun and bibim nengmyun? It's so genius.

  4. If you live in Long Island, it's in a convenient location. They give you a good amount of side dishes to eat while waiting for your main meal. Generally a good place to go to if you're too lazy to go into flushing. I ordered don kasu and nengmyun. They were fine. They're just not as good as restaurants in flushing…and the prices reflect the convenience.

  5. Oh my goodness, it was so good! My family and I shared the short rib beef dish and it was tasty! I couldn't have stuffed myself on it all night. We also bbqed up some chicken and it was so good.  We shared the appetizer fried wantons and they were great. My dad got dumpling soup and it was great broth, not so great dumplings. The fried rice was delicious.

Be careful not to fill up on all the little dishes they put down. It's hard to stop eating all the food. They gave us pumpkin congee and it was so good!

We found the staff to be super friendly and helpful. We had no idea what to order so we asked the guy to recommend some things. that was the way to go!

mom always says, 'the best way to pick an asian resturant, is to go where the asians are!' and tonight with about twenty tables of people, my parents and I were the only white people. guess mom's adivce held true because it was so good! can't wait to go back!

  6. Not a fan of this place at all.

    Food lacked flavor.

I ordered the Beef short-rib stew and all I tasted was bean sprout.
The seafood pancake wasn't great either. It was more like scallion pancake because it had absolutely no seafood on it.

Try not to come here unless it's within walking distance or you're feeling super lazy or you want to dish out money for bad food.

  7. I've had this place bookmarked for a while and finally made my way over.

Their side dishes are enough to get you full. Their service is wonderful and kalbi is delicious!

We weren't even all that hungry to start off with, but still managed to eat off 3 orders of kalbi amongst 3.5 of us. Must try if you're looking for a new place for kalbi. Oh food coma…

  8. It was my first time as well as my boyfriend's for korean bbq. We had no idea what we were walking into. First, we were overwhelmed with all the side dishes that practically filled up the entire table. We had no room for anything! So the next part was when the lady came to put our meat on the grill. She was coughing several times while prepping our food to the point where we were disgusted. The lady told us the galbi was ready when it was still raw. The lady even hovered over me during checkout time when I was signing the receipt. Not worth the $100ish. This experience will never have me at a korean restaurant again. The food did not sit right and as we left the restaurant, we left with our stomach feeling really bad. Worst experience ever!!!!
