  1. This place was all the hype when it first opened about year and half ago, the hype died down, but the place is still kicking for those loyal.  Most of the food offerings are Viet oriented, few items such as shiu mai and dumplings are not, and the beer selection is respectable for a restaurant.  Best part of this place is the rooftop that's opened to all during a nice day.  You can see the Manhattan skyline during a nice sunset while enjoying a cold brew, nothing beats that.

Sadly, the food didn't keep me coming back.  There was a lack of full homemade flavor in the Pho and Bun.  The service was great the times we went.  No complaints for location and service, too bad the food didn't catch up.

  2. I read so many bad reviews, but I have no complaints! The bartenders were attentive for the most part. Happy hour is $1 off until 8 PM. The rooftop was full after 6 (came on a Wednesday night) but it was all good feels. If you're looking for a fantastic view, this isn't the place. You're mainly catching a glimpse of the Manhattan bridge. But, still great for the outdoor feel while sipping a beverage. You order your drinks at the bar and bring them to the roof. I'll return.

  3. The space itself isn't too bad. Interesting exposed brick walls, high ceilings, rooftop patio, very trendy industrial. The beer and drink selection isn't too bad either. It's good for a casual meet up with friends.

But the food… I think we're all desperate for good Vietnamese food in the area, and this was an option. But it's hit or miss… sometimes, it's decent and can hit the spot. But other times, it comes out bland and wishing you didn't bother. On top of that, it's not cheap either… which makes the bill hard to swallow when the meal was less than satisfactory.

Come to Bia if you want a chill space to hangout with friends, may be even good for a big group, but pass up on the food just to be safe.

  4. There are a lot of great things about living in this neck of the woods, but good Asian food is typically not one of those great things. I wouldn't call Bia GREAT Vietnamese food, but it's definitely good enough to fulfill my Asian food cravings, which hit me at least once a week. I've gone at all hours of the day and evening during the week and there's never a wait for a seat, especially at the big communal table in the middle of the place.

My personal favorite is the bun with BBQ chicken and shrimp spring rolls, but I'd also recommend the pho, oxtail soup (great for a hangover or on a cold day), and the shaking beef (a surprise hit that I never noticed on the menu til recently but really enjoyed). I would not recommend the banh mi, as I found the fillings skimpy and the bread not so fresh – this is something I'd definitely rather go into Chinatown to get.

The prices, again, are definitely not the best you'll find for Vietnamese food, which is typically very affordable, but still way less for a hearty meal than a lot of other places in the area.

It's cool as a bar, too – beers on tap, full bar, good music, and rooftop access. It's a cool, high-ceilinged space with lots of wood and random knickknacks abound.

A reliable source of tasty Asian flavors and, therefore, a go-to for me!

  5. Where can I find good Vietnamese food in NYC??

We came here on a Friday night because we were craving Pho.  Started with Har Gao.. not that bad.  Got a small bowl of Pho.  It was a lot smaller than I thought it was going to be.  I was so used to the small size at a normal Viet restaurant being very large, so that's why we each ordered a small.

The broth had decent flavor, but not the flavors that tasted as authentic as any other Vietnamese restaurant I've been to.  There was little to no beef.

It was not good, but it did the job for a late night craving.

Service was excruciating slow.  We were finished eating and sat there for over an hour with our empty bowls just staring at us as multiple servers walked past us.  I noticed each one would glance over, and walk over to another table.  Can we get some service over here?  I couldn't get out of there fast enough if I tried.

  6. Love this place. Love the area.
It's a sort of Vietnamese Beer garden, best combo ever.
You get vietnamese food (so good) and great beers and ciders (along with other liquors). You can hang out downstairs in the large space, or head to the roof deck. It's a little close to the bridge and got noisy sometimes, but over all it's a great place to hang out.

  7. I came here for some late night pho Vietnamese food. They have large and small soups in which I should've got the large. I got the chicken pho which was OK, I'm comparing this to Vietnamese pho I've had in Chinatown and this was not the same. It was very bland tasting.

The service was slow, the waitress took my drink from the table and I was not even done with it. The dirty plates were also sitting at the table for awhile.

The environment and ambiance was different. They have a rooftop and also they were showing some sort of movie on the walls with music. But it was very dark, for a restaurant I could barely see what I was eating.

  8. Great bar! Great vibe! Nice and open, cool rooftop right next to the Williamsburg bridge (which means every time a J/M train comes past, you get to all pause and reflect on this crazy city). Really fresh and delicious summer rolls, tasty dumplings. Do it!
