Big Daddy’s
“Each table has Trivial Pursuit game cards, and I was taken back in time when I noticed the game "Trouble" mounted on the wall.”
“Big Daddy's is an 80s/90s themed diner with a killer soundtrack (the Cure and the Smiths seem to be favored, which is never a bad thing) and decor.”
“I highly recc the Easy Rider – best deal and it includes the best pancakes I've had in NYC.”

UPDATE:: Business did reach out to me in order to make an attempt to rectify the situation. Very kind in their attempt and showed genuine concern. For this reason alone, it is worth a second visit when I'm in the neighborhood again.
We arrived at Big Daddy's about 45 minutes before close due to a late flight arrival to the city. We were greeted hesitantly by what appeared to be the manager, but for clarification I did ask him if it was too late. He proceeded and sat us down at our booth. We noticed another table of five across the way that had not yet ordered.
They allowed us plenty of time to look over the menu. About 10 minutes passed before our waiter showed up. He, along with the rest of the staff looked exhausted and overworked. Their menu, unfortunately, doesn't offer much for vegetarians or pescetarians. You'll be disappointed at the selection. I ordered a tuna melt on seven grain bread. My husband had a burger. Each were served with a choice of side. We both chose fries. I also ordered the Cookie Monster shake, which is basically just Oreo cookies and vanilla icecream.
Our food arrived very shortly after placing our order. The portion sizes for the tuna sandwich were gigantic. The melt, itself, was sad. The cheese was hardly melted, there wasn't even enough cheese to cover the tuna and thick sliced bread. Aside from that, the tuna was not flavored or seasoned well. It has chunks of celery and salt, too much salt. It just lacked any depth of flavor. The bread was toasted and the crust was so hard that it was inedible. My husband loved his burger and said that it was really good. The fries weren't hot upon arrival. Hot fries could have been the saving grace for my meal, but even that was not the case.
We didn't see our waiter during our meal. He never asked how the food was. I also witnessed another guest stand up with her plate and walk over to him in order to explain that something was wrong with her order. I guess he never checked on their table either, so she had to chase him down with plate in hand. By this time there were only three occupied tables left in the restaurant.
Last straw, he brought the wrong check. We saw the total bill, stuck the cash in there and handed it over. He took the bill, returned and said he made a mistake, but the cash was enough to cover his mistake. We were shocked. There were two options that he could have taken… 1) He could have apologized and let it slide since it was his error and let the extra $5 slide or 2) Make us pay the extra $5 more dollars without regards to his error. Josh chose option # 2. Fine, mistakes happen. Generally we always tip well over 20 – 25 percent of the bill, but in this case, I decided that wasn't going to happen since he went with option number two, so did we. He ended up with about twelve percent.
To leave off on a positive note, their shake was amazing. I think shakes are the way to go here. We also noticed that they offer an all you can drink brunch (available at any time) for $15. I would have given it a try, but we wouldn't have had enough time to really enjoy it before close. My family really likes Big Daddy's, but my experience was far less than pleasing. I may have to give it another try in the future.
I went to Dig Daddy's kicking and screaming. I went because I was visiting my daughter at Barnard and this was her #1 choice. I went because I had already put her off for three days and it was almost the end of our visit.
I didn't want to go because Big Daddy's appeared to be a HUGE tourist trap. I didn't want to go because I believed it would be an experience of overpriced, uninteresting, crappy food in an overstimulating atmosphere.
We stopped in for a late dinner and there was no wait. We were seated at a booth. I found the menu to be exactly what I thought it would be, but funny and I was intrigued by some of the flavor combinations on their milkshakes.
I ended up ordering a smoothie, my daughter got a sandwich with tots and a banana shake. My smoothie was ok (overpriced/hard to believe that it was made from natural ingredients). My daughter liked her sandwich a lot and offered to share her ample order of tater tots with me.
And then…Holy Daddy! The tater tots were AMAZING! Perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with just the right amount of salt and there were SO MANY OF THEM!
While I cannot recommend or dis the food at Big Daddy's as I only ordered a smoothie, I can say that if you are having a day where a giant platter of tater tots and ketchup is the only thing that will do, GET YOURSELF TO BIG DADDY'S!
Big Daddy and his Big Brunch!
This NYC chain dinner brings back fun to the diner all of their locations are filled with everything from guitars to footballs to party decorations. It reminds you of when you were a little kid when you are here.
The menu is filled with great breakfast options which I think are better than lunch and dinner but that's me. When I came here I was greeted and seated right away at a booth and got myself a coffee. The coffee here was very good and they refilled my cup 4 times! When we got to ordering we got the bosom brothers omelette(cheddar bacon) and tatter tots and a custom omelette with sweet potato tater tots. If you are here you gotta go with the tatter tot option they are crispy and delicious.
When we got the food it was good and not as greasy as I would have expected and the tater tots where of a delicious crispness. All the food is good here but it won't wow you.
In short :
– Good Food but won't wow you
– Good Service
– Great coffee
– Fun ambiance that's makes you feel like a kid
If you are looking for a place to get a large plate of something (especially burgers, shakes, and tater tots) from early morning to really late evening, in more of a diner setting, then you need to head over to Big Daddy's.
Don't expect a high quality service from your waiter (it was pretty bad), but the food is good.

Big Daddy's is slowly but surely becoming the love of my life. I've been to the one on the UES but it was my first time here – we came pretty late after catching a movie at the AMC on 68th and were seated in a frickin sweet booth very promptly. Both the hostess and our server were very friendly and prompt. My friend and I each had a turkey burger with tots (mine were sweet), and the waiter didn't mess up any of our specifications (holding the onions, tomatoes, etc.). I even changed my tots to sweet tots as an afterthought a few minutes after we placed our order and that was fine. My friend had a root beer float, which was delicious (I stole a sip). Would def come back. Their fried chicken is also amazing, FYI.
This place is fine. It's your pretty standard greasy diner fair. It's all done fine. The staff here seem to have a lot of trouble getting you everything you need and kind of need to be told a couple times before it happens. The prices are inordinately expensive for diner food.
I love Big Daddy's! At first I was going to give this diner on 80's steroids a solid 3.5, but customer service is super great and delivery is always speedy. Those things are important too. It seems like everyone I move, I get closer and closer to here… I've been eating here more often now that I'm challenged with gaining 10lbs. So yeah, not the healthiest food. But holy crap, it's disgustingly good what they can put together and serve up. My favorite dish is the chicken and waffles. Huge portion, two waffles, five pieces of chicken. Hangover cure. Munchies cure. The burger with Mac and cheese… Arrest me now. Love most of the breakfast foods, Oreo pancakes, bacon pancakes, birthday cake milkshake, Mac and cheese, chili… Damn I may have to order up something ASAP.
This was one of my favorite burgers in the city but it seems things have seriously changed. My girlfriend and I both got burgers and were seriously disappointed. What used to be a thick hand formed juicy patty is now thin, flavorless and looks premade/frozen. Looking at some of the pictures this seems to be the new normal. We both ordered medium rare but received medium well/well, not a spot of pink or red in it. I got the grand daddy which I've gotten 5 or 6 times and it seems like they've cut down the amount of toppings and the amount of cheese normally on the burger. Next time I'm in the mood for a burger I'll definitely be going with Bareburger.
