  1. I thought this place was alright…I had American Globs, which was a soft serve cone with pretzels, sea salt and chocolate hard shell.  The soft serve itself tasted pretty typical, but I did appreciate the salty/sweet topping.

I've heard that there can be lines for this place (when I was here there was no wait), but this place is definitely not worth a long wait.

  2. Do you know how often I think of soft serve ice cream, Especially in the summer?
Probably more often then men think of sex. Do you know what soft serve ice cream with rainbow sprinkles does to me? I become so weak that I guzzle it right up, just like the cookie monster does with his cookies!!

This is exactly what happened when I ordered The Bea Arthur cone. It was delicious. The soft serve wasn't too sweet. Not too thick. Not watery. Not too creamy. It was perfect. Now, the interesting part of this lovely cone was the texture. Crumbled Nilla wafers sat nicely on the palate and lingered around peacefully. After a few rush licks, I took my time finishing the rest of the cone. I wanted to enjoy it for as long as I could.

Will I be back? Is that a real question? Heck yea! I'll make the effort whenever I am around the area to try a different cone every time. This just means I'll be doing more HITT at the gym.

    Yolo.

  3. I went on a Tuesday night and there was a little bit of a line but nothing crazy it moved pretty quickly!

Once I got into the shop, I decided on the Rocky Roadhouse which has chocolate ice cream, toasted almonds, and marshmallows. It was good but nothing too crazy, don't think I would get that one again. My boyfriend got the American Globs which was much better. It has vanilla ice cream, pretzels, sea salt, chocolate chip so it has the mixture of salty and sweet. For 2 ice cream cones it was $13. A little pricey for alright ice cream.

Maybe I will go back again if I am in the neighborhood and try something different, but definetly will not go out of my way to go back.

  4. Get the Salty Pimp cone and it will change your life. Great ice cream, fantastic flavors, fun combinations. The price / person could be a little lower, but for this iconic store with a high quality, I'm good with paying a little more dough / scoop. Plus, it's a great place to take out of towners.

  5. Big Gay Ice Cream Shop reminds me of VooDoo Donuts, but for soft serve. The soft serve itself is fine. Nothing standout, but not bad either. The appeal is mostly the genitals! omg! shock factor.

I got the Monday Sundae, and it was just fine. Nutella, and swirl in a waffle cone. The portion size was huge, and two of us shared one. But I could have also done without.

I'm from Portland, which has a great ice cream culture, (and home to VooDoo Donuts), and I didn't think this place was worth visiting twice.

If you're a tourist, or you're bringing tourists to town, and they're sensationalized by something with Big Gay in its name then this is a fine place to bring them to.

    But otherwise, I'd pass.

PS. The guys that worked there were really friendly and nice.

  6. People go crazy about this place, but I have only four words.  ITS ONLY ICE CREAM.  Sure its a famous place, and its a bit of a show, but its simply ice cream that is on the pricier side.  There are plenty of other good ice cream shops and dessert places in the East Village that are not only better, but easier on the wallet as well.

As soon as you sink your teeth, or your tongue into your ice cream cone, or cup, you will think those four words to yourself and say, "Woah he was right, its just ice cream."  Literally nothing special.

  7. Solid soft serve, tasty combinations, and friendly yet efficient service.

I ordered the Salty Pimp, or a sugar cone filled with vanilla soft serve and dulce de leche, and covered with a hardened chocolate sauce. The dulce de leche was delicious, and really made the mix.

While I prefer their West Village location, I'd definitely go back if in the area.

  8. After trying Chickalicious – I had to downgrade BGIS.

It's not completely awful – but you will always leave feeling heavy – like lead sits in your stomach coupled with that nauseous feeling one gets from too much chocolate.

It does have a great name, hype, is in many tourist guide books and I suppose due to that you may want to try it once.

I'd suggest you skip this spot and head to Chickalicious. Trust.
