Biggie’s Clam Bar
“Just hands down the best damn dozen you'll ever have a chance to savor, followed by a true Hoboken style cheesesteak.”
“This place is your classic chipper-ish joint with the addition of clams; roasted, steamed or raw.”
“Not because their menu sucks or anything – it's because one night a while back we decided to try a "best delivery burger in Hoboken" challenge.”

I have eaten here about 3-4 times and I actually can't comment on the seafood here (I know, weird — I don't really eat seafood) — the rest of the food is all right. I think the non-seafood items could stand to use more flavor/salt. I got the mozzarrella cheesesteak here and it tasted pretty bland. I've gotten one of the pasta dishes here before (I think penne vodka? it's been awhile) — I definitely don't remember this being out of this world or anything.
Pepsi products, no Coca-Cola (darn)
This place has a divey/speakeasy sort of feel. Decor is sparse and you have those long benches with those picnic-y chairs. This place is definitely not some place you'd take someone for a date, but a good place for some friends and some beer during the day!
Goodbye Clam Broth House – Hello Biggie's.
I'm not that surprised that Clam Broth finally went belly up; my girlfriend's office is down the street so we used to come here at the end of any given workday while I was in town to have a drink or 8 with her and her boss. It was never really crowded – despite being large, inviting, and very close to the PATH.
Went to Biggie's last night and I honestly didn't notice the change until I saw 20 TVs on the wall and that the big red neon had different wording on it. The interior is largely the same – and given its only been open a little while, I can't say I expected a major overhaul.
Drink selection – great. There are a lot more beers on tap. I had the chance to try the Ithaca Apricot Wheat and it was absolutely delicious. They also have all the standards, as well as two, yes TWO, varieties of Leinenkugel on tap. Unheard of.
I was there from 5:30 to just before 9pm with a group of 12 or so. We had our own corner of the bar, and despite the presence of three bartenders, we still had to jump up and down to get their attention for refills.
TV? Yes – sports…all over. Huge improvement from before.
Food was…well we didn't have any seafood so I can't really be terribly negative. We had a few apps – just a cheese pizza and the spinach artichoke dip.
Pizza was eh, I mean Balbo's is 23 steps away and their grandma pie is out of this world, so it hardly seems necessary to order pizza here.
The dip was much more cheese than it was spinach or artichokes, but I was so hungry after 3 Ithacas and no dinner that I really didn't care. It came with chips from a bag, and these particular chips came from the bottom. Kinda hard to dip with a crumb…
I will be back for more drinks, and some seafood (which seemed to be the most popular thing coming out of the kitchen over the hours I was there).
It's a great location, so I hope the buzz gets out there that CBH is gone and Biggie's is here – hopefully to stay.
If for no other reason, go there for the Ithaca Apricot Wheat and try to tell me it's not amazing.
Stopped at Biggie's Madison Street; they replaced hurricane damaged equipment, rose up, and they are back open. If you love comfort food, time to love this local business.
5 stars for the original Biggie's and one of the true landmarks in Hoboken. If you're a HOB BNR person like I am you've grown up with Biggie's on Madison. This was everyone's go to lunch or dinner spot. Since the many years it has been opened and additional locations spreading across the state the Madison spot has never lost its casual ambience and most importantly quality of food.
"Can I have a chicken cutlet with cheese on soft bread?" My usual order for the past years and it hasn't changed. Want to know why? Biggie's never has a "bad day" for food. The cutlet is breaded and fried perfectly and the addition with the soft Italian bread makes it better. Additional appetizers are always good to snack on such as mozzarella sticks and waffle fries!
Also as a plus for my fountain soda lovers they have a soda machine. Gone are the days where every sip counted because you couldn't refill your drink! If there's ever a choice of lunch or quick bites in Hoboken I always think of Biggie's. What other option is there?
This place has been around in Hoboken since long branch was a twig. We live around the corner so we're regulars. It usually goes down like this "babe, you wanna cook…not a chance…biggies?…without a doubt."
This place is old school, and old school born and raised Hobokenites go there. It's small and divey but excellent. It's great comfort food and even better prices. The garlic mutz cheesesteak, white cap roast beef, chicken bruschetta and Italian hot dog are all musts. I don't eat seafood so ironically enough I have no idea how good the clams are at a clam bar. Love their waffle fries and cheese fries. Most of their sandwiches come with their onions and peppers, which you do not want to go without they are epic! They are quick, easy and cheap. I love it here. They have a couple tables outside but a lot more inside.
Quick tip, order up at the counter then go sit, they'll bring it to you. Go back up to said counter to pay, I've seen more than one new comer sit and wait for a check to be brought over.
I've said this about other places, don't come here looking for gourmet fusion food with a side salad and creme fraiche. Come here for burgers, clams, fries and other fantastic REAL comfort food.
Expected soooooo much more. The food was alright but I guess I fell for the hype.
Nice decor and service was fine. The location is great.
The Chicken Marsala wasn't very flavorful. The Seafood Fiesta was skimpy. Wasn't much of a fiesta; more like a siesta.. Ha!
Maybe it was an off night. Will try again.
Have Fun
We had a long day and were a little
Hungry looking to have a little snack. We decided on biggies.
We ordered the tuna tacos, mussels And chicken tenders. What an assortment, I know.
The delivery came pretty quickly thankfully because we were fading and fast. But unfortunately the only thing really passable
Were the chicken fingers, which we devoured! They were well cooked, flavorful and I liked the dipping sauce.
The mussels were grainy, under seasoned and the sauce wasn't anything I would ever eat again. It was just like watered down tomato sauce that they cooked it in. We each tried one they tossed it and my boyfriend HATES wasting food. That is how bad it was. The tuna tacos were flavorless and needed to have some kind of crunchy texture. It was so under seasoned as well.
The delivery was prompt, and the food was the right temperature.
We won't be ordering again.
The good:
Great service, the gentleman at the front is extremely nice and easy going. Offered us food on the house due to their error and apologized multiple times. Great atmosphere, quaint, a few TVs for some sports watching. Very local feel.
The OK:
Fried whole clam bellies were good, though, they came with marinara that was gelatinized…gross. We were able to pick it out of the plastic condiment container in one piece, and it stayed together on the fork…yum…sauce probably shouldn't do that.
Fries were also better than average (we did not have the waffles fries)
GF enjoyed the raw clams, though she was disappointed they don't have oysters at the madison location…
Crab cakes were OK but what can you expect for $3.25…
The bad:
Cheese steak was over cooked, very tough beef and bland.
Food is very 'heavy', though, that is also a function of what we ordered, take it with a grain of salt.
