  2. I really wanted to like this place. But after receiving my food, I really started to hate this place.

This place is literally in the middle of what seems to be nowhere, I feel like I'd be afraid to come dine here at night lol.

Anyways, I came with my gf – we were quickly seated and I saw biscuits and gravy and almost lost my shit, I had to order it. So, I did. I didn't really want it after it came out. It wasn't anything I had imagined. I've had real southern biscuits and gravy and this was so far from it. I found it very hard to swallow. So I had to push it away after  a few bites. Thank god they comped it 'cause it was a bit pricey. I would've flipped a handle had they charged me for that lol.

My gf got the fried chicken with side of sweet potato mash. The chicken to me seemed extremely dried out, lacking flavor and tasted as if it's been reheated in a microwave. The sweet potato mash, however, was surprisingly alright.

I ordered the pulled pork po boy and wanted to kill myself. I already complained about one dish, I didn't want to bother anyone on this one too so I kinda just tried to eat it. The pork was more chopped than pulled. The sauce was overly sweet and tasted like something out of a can or the freezer section you just pop in microwave and serve at home (but I wouldn't even eat this at home) – so I just pulled out all the pork and ended up eating lettuce pickles and tomato on bread. That was fun …

My gf seemed to enjoy her meal this time and the last time she went before me – I don't really see how. It's also cash only which could be annoying for some. I don't see myself ever coming back here for overpriced, mediocre, mircowaved tasting food.

  3. Yelp sent us this way when we got curious about local BBQ.  It's in a semi-industrial part of Mineola but that shouldn't deter anyone. This place serves Louisiana style BBQ and cuisine and I have to say it was pretty good.

The brisket was excellent with the right amount of smoke and fat.  Ribs were also pretty good but slightly over-smoked for my taste.  Kids really liked the chicken and waffles and the shrimp and grits were excellent.  Sides were a bit meh but that's OK.  Prices are about what you expect for BBQ (mostly between $15 and $20) and service was really good.  Recommended if you're in the area looking for a good meal.

  4. This place is kinda in the middle of nowhere, not much else around, in an industrial kind of area. It looks like an old school diner. We tried the country biscuit in andouille sausage gravy and a bowl of gumbo. Both were soo delicious especially the gravy and the biscuit. Filling but amazing. We had the ribs and chicken fried steak. The meat was falling of the bones of the ribs. And i usually don't like chicken fried steak but it was really really good. The pie we had was really good especially if you love chocolate.  I think it was the turtle pie? Oh and CASH ONLY!And the nearest ATM is about 5 minutes away.

  5. I was in the area and found this spot on yelp. I love me some good BBQ. I arrived at the place and it had a cute location. I realized they only accepted cash. So i went to the local grocery store and used the ATM. Funny when i came out someone left a case of caprisun next to my car lol…anyway i Finally, went back to this BBQ spot. Seems they had reservations considering it was mothers day. The place was pretty busy. It has kind of a diner feel and setup.

I ordered some unsweetened iced tea and their brisket. It cane with 2 sides so i got the grits w/cheese and some BBQ beans. When the food came out i wasn't exactly blown away with the presentation. The side portions were tiny. My brisket was cold. Like seriously…i sent it back to get heated up. 2 mins later it was hot…im thinking microwave??? My grits were yummy. The beans were ok. The best part of my meal were actually the grits… the bill came to about $25…i left the waitress a decent tip…not her fault my food csme as it did. Thought id get se cornbread or biscuit with what it cost….i have a photo ill try to upload it…not planning on coming back here…i will say the FOH staff were all very nice besides that though my food just was not good

  6. The best thing about our meal was the mac and cheese! Would I return for just the mac and cheese though? Probably not. The place is pretty run down but we came in knowing full well this would be a divey experience but we were also hoping to get that amazingly unexpected hole in the wall flavor that usually comes with spots like this but sadly we didn't get it and not for lack of trying. We ordered a wide variety of items on the menu but quite honestly the only thing that really stood out was the mac and cheese. Another issue is that the mac and cheese isn't even available as a side item. You have to order it as an appetizer and it's $8!! At that price it better darn well be the best mac and cheese I've ever had. It was good but not the best I've ever had.

Our main waitress wasn't the nicest but she wasn't rude either. I think she was frankly just pissed off that she was working on mother's day. I probably would be too. What possessed me to pick this place for my mother's day meal you ask? Well the shining yelp reviews of course, that coupled by the fact that it was close to Old Westbury Gardens, open for lunch, and I could bring my toddler without getting evil death stares from fellow patrons. We skipped the appetizers and dove right in. No biscuits or bread or anything else was offered while we waited.

My toddler was getting restless so we got some milk to hold him over. We ordered my little guy the corn flake crusted chicken finger kids meal with fries. We they crunchy, yes extremely. Were they flavorful hmm slightly but did my toddler care? Nope not really. Ketchup fixes all!

My older son chose the jambalaya which he said he enjoyed but I didn't try any of it. He did reach for the hot sauce quite frequently so it was not as spicy as he would have hoped. The Louisiana hot sauce is not hot enough for him either so he settled for Tabasco. This kid loves heat! The portion side was decent and it filled him up and it was presented nicely enough.

I ordered the shrimp po boy. The bread was pretty dry so it came with remoulade but the remoulade was weak. The remoulade at Ruby Tuesday's was more flavorful than this and that's a chain so it should be a good indication of how weak. The shrimp were nice and crispy though but the breading was lacking in spices too. I added some salt and that did the trick. We also ordered a rack of ribs for the table to share. They were smoked and cooked well but the sauce and flavor were also lacking. They were decently meaty but also a little fatty so that was a turn off. The barbecue sauces that were on the table also did not taste like the sauce that was used to prepare the ribs. The sauce on the ribs was sweet but needed more acidity and perhaps even a little heat. The table was not enthused with these ribs hence most of them came home with us for later where we doused them in our own sauce to salvage what was left of them. The sides the ribs came with were better than the actual ribs which were red rice and beans and bbq beans but the sides were very small portions. The type that could be eaten in two to three spoonfuls.

My husband ordered the catfish po-boy and he also seemed disappointed but he didn't want to complain because it was mother's day and he was just going with the punches. I could tell by the look in his eyes that he was telepathically telling me that this catfish was in no way shape or form better than the catfish I prepare for him at home lol. We have been together for so many years I just know what he's thinking whether he says it out loud or not.

The bottom line here is the novelty and hype did not hold up. The reviews and pictures are much better than the actual food was and for the quality and experience I'd say it's overpriced too. If you trust me…. skip it!

  7. By far my favorite bbq place on longisland. This little restaurant is nicely tucked away in the industrial area of mineola in what appears to be an old trailer. Talk about making you feel like your down south! Don't let the outside fool you. Inside they are serving up some seriously dishes. My go to is the fried chicken and waffles served with raspberry and honey butter. For dessert you can't go wrong no matter what you order. All desserts are homemade and delicious especially the key lime pie.

Just be warned this place is cash only. Also if you find yourself in the city you can always visit their sister restaurant The Delta which is great as well.

  8. This place is great.  It is an old diner car.  I had fried chicken and macoroni and cheese.  It was so good. The chocolate pie I had was great. The best option is the BYOB.
