Obviously this wine shop is walking a fine line to serve its immediate neighborhood with both the Hoyt/Boerum Hill projects across the street and up-and-coming Smith Street corridor a long block away. The open floor plan is perfect for the cashier to see the entire store behind bullet-proof glass and also makes the store appear spacious and clean.
"Depot" to me signifies a huge store with a wide selection in all price ranges. That is not this place. At BK Wine Depot the wines are mostly inexpensive imported bottles and jugs from South America and Australia; however, I spotted a few California and Spanish gems against the wall that are fairly priced. It would be nice to have more shelf tags with various wine notes/ratings to help people along (and also sell more wine).
BK Wine Depot delivers and gives discounts for 3-12 bottle purchases so buy at least 3!
Unlike the wine, all the liquor are on shelves behind the glass. I guess it's not worth throwing your life away stealing a bottle of Yellowtail. I don't really mind asking for the liquor since the guys are fairly friendly.
I didn't discover this hidden gem until I walked past it one Sunday afternoon.
The location is conveniently located near my apartment between Hoyt and Baltic streets.
It's quite a large space for wine and liquor store in this area.
The store is bright and clean. The displays are on eye level and very well laid out.
On the other hand, customers do not have access to top shelf liquors and all the good stuff since those items are behind the glass counter.
The staff on the floor are helpful, friendly and knowledgable about their products.
