Can't believe all the negative reviews. People- you are in an airport- NYC nonetheless- of course the food/drinks are going to be overpriced. That said- stopped in for lunch during my layover. They have iPad ordering system which doubles as an Internet connection and game station when you are finished. Credit card reader at the table. Got right in- seated myself- and was able to figure out the ordering system relatively quick. I did notice the waiters/waitresses assisting others who were struggling to place their orders. Ordered a crab cake sandwich along with an Ommegang Three Founders. The crab cake was really delicious. After a few minutes my waitress appeared to say that they were out of the Three Founders. Substituted in with a Hennepin and then the manager came over to apologize and then comp my beer! Well done sir! Menu was pretty varied and they had an extensive beer menu listed. Would visit again if And when I'm at JFK.
Dear Lord this place irritated me. I walked in and you see tables with iPads. What's my firs thought? Grab a seat, order some food. NO! NO! NO! Little lady yelling at me saying I must wait to be seated. I look, but there's no line. I ask, can I sit here. "No, go there and wait please." Okay, walk over, no sign or anything saying I need to wait to be seated.
Seat at the bar opened up so I sat there, I think it irritated little lady. Oh well. I sit down and I order what I want on the iPad. Nothing goes through. Guy next to me is having the same issue. I ask the bartender to give me a hand and he comes over, starts beating the ipad, resets it, beats it some more. No wonder it wasn't working. Then other people are having the same issue.
I ask if he can just put my order in. Nope, they have "the system". Clearly it wasn't working but it didn't matter. He finally gets my ipad to work after 10 minutes and I get my meal 15 after that. Still there were so many issues with the whole thing. I still had to hand him my card to pay since the ipad wouldn't take it.
Food was greasy and bland, beer was flat, bar was way too loud (music and staff yelling at each other). No, I will not be back here. Maybe if you get real waiter service but still, you need to improve on the food.
This place is as any local bar with an upgrade, all the fancy iPads to order your food is a waste. The waiter still comes to make sure your using it right (don't you think you might as well take my order then just saying). Oh yeah "No Cash Allowed" so sucks if your not in the mood for charging. The food is not impressing would of been just as satisfied with Wendy's.
Breakfast review.
We thought sitting down at a "restaurant" would be preferable to sitting in the gate seating area. You'll notice that all of the restaurants on this terminal have pad devices with menus. Navigating through the menu you see all of the amazing pictures. Of course you'd be an idiot to believe that an airport terminal would actually have amazing food, but we ordered anyway.
After a wait the food came. Not as good looking as the pictures. Quality was a bit suspect especially with my yogurt parfait. Room temperature yogurt, crumbled granola bars, and I think frozen fruit. I just couldn't get past the temperature of the yogurt. Last thing I needed was to have tummy issues on a long flight.
I would say avoid the high prices and just grab a fast food option like Wendy's.
BTW – It seems that for breakfast all the restaurant here use the same breakfast kitchen. Maybe the Japanese restaurant would be a better place to sit.
busy bar during this spring break travel time. The orders were electronic on their mini pads at each chair. The payment system is credit or debit only (for the most part). The credit card swipe did not work for the person I was with and they had to swipe on my pad and then the orders got confused and delayed. It took a while to get someone's attention and abt 20 minutes to get things situated and get their food and draft beer.
I would recommend IF you have TIME to kill and have the PATIENCE to deal with a little hassle. My friend did not like the burger , I enjoyed my spinach dip and pretzel slices to complement.
I was just looking for a snack, and this place had a nice range of small plates. The hostess was very friendly and helpful with assisting me in figuring out how to order something to go. I ended up going with the Brussels sprouts small plate. Overall, this dish was okay. The Brussels sprouts tastes fresh, though the Caesar dressing seemed a bit bland. It wasn't the most exciting dish, but it was close enough to what I was looking for. The toasted bread that came with it was a nice touch. I would definitely consider checking out one of their sandwiches next time I am here.
The iPad ordering systems is terrible. I hated it and almost left. The card reader didn't work so we had to use the next one over.
I had the veal Bockwurst with kraut and it was really ok for airport food. Not sure why I lower my standards in airports….
Food was hot, beer was cold, waitstaff was nice and helpful.
I didn't expect to write this.
The food was edible. But overpriced.
That is the problem with airport foods.
Great price=cardboard.
Good food=mortgage payment.
It is very very VERY noisy. Music is pumped up to add "ambiance".
I had fingerling potatoes, a dining companion had chicken sandwich. Both were more than passable.
The waitstaff were friendly, but very busy. No one rushed us to turn over tables. This was one nice feature, as your meal should allow you some buffer from the maddening crowds.
It was also nice that the wait staff noticed I had a sour look on my face and was quite shocked by tht taste of the lemonade. He whisked it away and brough back another. It had been lacking in symple syrup as had been promised on the menu.
I didn't have to ask. THAT is what gets 4 stars. High class service by everyone from hostess to the waiters.
