  1. Top of the line dining @ Blackfish, fresh, delicious and delicately seasoned grilled Octopus salad is my absolute favorite! Fresh table bread with tzatziki sauce, fried calamari, falafel & whole grilled Branzino always on my reorder list and can't go wrong.

For desert we were given complimentary Semolina cake which is equivalent to bread pudding but so much better tasting with orange/ lemon zest and sweet honey, just out of this world rich and decadent goodness and a sweet ending to a delicious meal!

Dining isn't rushed, service is attentive with comfortable seating in a relaxed atmosphere!

Prices are moderate and Black Sea is a seafood lovers hit!

  2. This was a date!  I haven't been out in a while, so this was a great choice.  The hilarious thing was that I was actually hoping to go to Marani, but for some stroke of stochastic luck, I ended up here.  The wall is covered with fisherpeople paraphernalia.  Tons of fish hook, sailboats, sailor knots, so if you like nautical goods, this is the place.  You could spend half an hour just ogling the tschotkes.  It is a lot of fun, if you ask me!  You can also see the wine literally on the upper shelf.  There are Turkish beers available and many foreign wines.  It is definitely a date place, yet without the pretentiousness.

One thing I need to mention is that the service is really excellent.  I felt pretty pampered, from my half cut lemon encased in cheese cloth so that you can have lemon juice sans the seeds, to the refill of my water.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Let me tell you the other reasons:  I saw the size of the octopus salad and immediately realized something.  This restaurant absolutely caters to those who have large appetites and was pleasantly surprised.  Maybe I have been to many places with smaller portions, so I guess I might be lowering my expectations when it comes to portion.  I had dolmades (grape leaves), tzitki(spelling?) with pita.  He had ordered the trout which was nicely prepared.  We even had room for dessert.  I can't recall the name, but it had strawberry in it.  It was like honey and jelly and bread pudding had a party!

  3. This Mediterranean Restaurant serves fresh, perfectly grilled, whole fish and a tender charred octopus salad in Rego Park, Queens.
We were craving seafood for a casual Friday night dinner.

So we Yelped what was around and found Blacksea fish. The plus is that the service was excellent and we got to dine in a nice dining room setting.

We ordered grilled whole St Peter's fish, grilled whole Royal Durado, and chargrilled octopus salad.
The St Peter's fish was superior to the Royal Durado in 3 ways: the flakey tender morsels of the fillet vs the more solid texture of the royal Durado, the crispy crackling charred skin and the sheer volume of the St Peter's fish! The whole fish was twice as large as the royal Durado.
And the Octopus salad was perfectly grilled. Tender cubes of octopus sprinkled amidst a tomato, arugula and red onion salad.

Our server was sweet, timely and joked with us when we couldn't finish the St Peter's fish. And a major winning point was this whole meal cost us half of what it would have cost us in Manhattan (30-35 pp incl tip)!

    We will definitely be back!

  4. I wanted to enjoy a good Mediterranean food.
I order the hummus as an appetizer it was bland and I was not give any pita bread ; I had to use regular bread from the basket they put on everyone's table.

I ordered the Chicken Gyro and I must say it was terrible full of fat pieces on it and absolutely no flavor . It was on a bed of tasteless white rice I took one bite of the chicken and did not eat anything else. It's been a while since I've been to a place that was actual a waste of my money and time.

I give this place a negative one star !!!

  5. We came here to celebrate my birthday. Although my brains were like scrambled eggs after my practice NY bar exam last year, I remembered the food was great so I wanted to come here again. The food was delicious and even better than my last visit. We ordered several appetizers: ezme, barbunya, octopus salad, and calf liver. For our main entrees we ordered two mixed grills (beef/lamb and chicken) and for desert we ordered kunefe. Everything was yummy and the service was great! I would definitely come here again.

  6. Disclaimer: Total rating is 3.5

I've been trying to schlep to BlackSea for a long time but I had to wait to bring my mother there because she loves fish and lamb. We finally made it not too long ago and went biserk on the menu.

The best items: the complimentary bread, the salad, the octopus, the St. Peter's whole fish.
The so-so items: the lamb kebabs, fried calf liver (actually less than so-so).

    Service was good.

If you come, you must come for the fish – they have it mastered. The lamb came overcooked and not as tasty as I'd hoped. For that, I would go around the corner and down to Cheburechnaya.

  7. Excellent Turkish fish place with good service. Went here with 2 others.

To drink, I had a glass of the the Turkish white he had the glass of the Turkish. Both were good and not super pricey.

    Appetizer:
    Shepard's Salad (Smaller size) Hers/shared.

Very fresh, nice amount of cheese and tomato. There was a lot of parsley to it compared to other places. Good portion for the price. 4.1

Eggplant with tomato: Pretty good version. I have had this in other places and it was slightly better in other place but nothing was wrong. 3.9.

"Spinach Saute with pine nuts, onions and also Turkish yogurt sauce:" The flavors were excellent. Nice amount of pine nuts and some onions were in there. I don't remember there being yogurt sauce but I am not sure. A whole lot of garlic, good portion. Nicely sauteed. 4.3

Mains: The waiter recommended most fish outside of the red mullet, mostly since that fish had a lot of bones

St. Peter's Filet, char grilled, her. 19.75

The waiter recommended this fish specifically char grilled and as a filet as the meat is better. While it was a filet instead of the whole fish, the portion size was quite adequate for the price.

The fish itself was excellent. One of the better grilled fish I have tasted in ages. 4.6.

Akdeniz Levregl: Imported mediterranean sea bass (branzino). exotic flaky, white sweet meat, ordered as a whole. 19.75 also, him

Solid fish as well but not as good as the St. Peters. I think I just preferred the former but there was nothing wrong with this fish at all. It was the worst of the three dishes but honestly, it was still better than fish at a lot of other restaurants. 4.2

Ahtapot Guvec octopus casserole. fresh octopus baked in a casserole with mushroom, fresh tomatoes, red bell peppers and garlic.

The casserole sauce (or whatever you could call it) was excellent. A whole lot of peppers and garlic. A lot of tomatoes as well. The octopus was cooked perfectly. Not as many mushrooms as I expected but otherwise fantastic. 4.4

Milk pudding was solid as a dessert, the normal kazandibi is normal.

    4.3 or so

  8. Had to wait a little longer than expected for my order. It was great and all, but the reason it receives a low rating is because when I got my food, the rice pilaf side was already half spilled into the brown bag it came in. What a dang oily mess that was. Not cool – you guys can do better than that.
