  1. I used to spend a bit of time here when I worked upstairs, although it was under another name…the quality is still the same – all good.

Cosy, correct lighting, friendly staff who always make you feel like you've rocked up into their living rooms instead of the local boozer in Midtown East.

I like stopping in here because one drink inevitably turns into a couple hours or more (especially with mates). I've only eaten here once for lunch & it was yummy.

The V&T's are potent and the place is overall welcoming. This is a solid bar & I'll always stop in for a session.

  2. Atmosphere: Restaurant/pub type joint. Plenty of seating in the back, as well as seating at the bar. We came on a Tuesday and it wasn't too packed.

Food: The chicken fingers were actually really delicious. Not too fried, light breading, and the chicken was tender, all white meat, and you could just tell it was fresh and of good quality. Friend enjoyed the burger, and the fries were thick cut and not overly salted.

Drinks: They had HH specials on wine, which was a Malbec, I believe. It was fine. HH wine isn't usually the best at a pub, so just don't set your expectations too high and you won't be disappointed.

Bonus*** You can color on the tables!

  3. Decent bar tucked away off the major streets. The rating is more for the bar staff than anything else. The beer was cold, and the fish and chips were alright. I was sitting at the bar in town for work and I felt welcomed and it seemed like the bartender was able to chat about any topic my mind wandered to.

  4. Randomly stumbled in here to pass time on a late Friday evening. The bartender was wonderful, made a perfect drink and great suggestions from the menu. He was personable but didn't over do it, chatted me up just enough and allowed me to eat and chill out. It has a Cheers type of feel, I'm sure they have their regulars. If I were in the neighborhood more often, this would be a frequent spot for me. It's very welcoming and has a home like vibe.

  5. My first and last time there.  Ordered a shepherds pie and had some serious food poisoning that night.  It was not a good sight.  My friends ordered other items but they were fine.

  6. This was a great experience – I needed a quick meal at 9 pm at night – nothing fancy – and they had tables not just bar seats.  Waitresses were very good.  Had the French onion soup and the bacon cheese burger with sweet potato fries. Very good and served quickly.  Decent pricing.  I will be back.

  7. In this stretch of town around the 50s and Lex, there's a strange black hole area lacking bars when just a couple of aves over there's a large assortment.

Blackwells fills in that gap with a decent low key pub, where you can easily go to enjoy a pint along with your favorite sports.

There's ample space for sitting down as there is for just hanging out at the bar.  The staff are friendly and the prices extremely reasonable.

  8. Stopped in late on a Tuesday. Drinks were good and the food was also good – pretty standard fare for a pub. We somehow always end up at irish pubs when we visit nyc! The bartender was Irish  (naturally) and friendly. Overall was okay – nothing that will win any Michelin awards but we weren't expecting that!
