Not a gourmet experience, but for an inexpensive evening out, Bliss 46 is fine.
— BYOB, No corkage fee. A rarity these days.
— Three course prix fixe menu @ $20
— Intimate setting, pleasant server, unhurried meal
— Conveniently located by the #7 train
The three of us started with field greens. It was a large serving. We should have split one or two orders and tried another appetizer, like the ravioli. (There are limited choices on the prix fixe.)
The women next to us were oooohing and ahing over their meals. "I'll have what she's having," I said (with tones of "When Harry Met Sally.") So I ended up with coq au vin. Good. Not fabulous.
For dessert you can get profiteroles or a scoop of ice cream. The profiterole sounds impressive but the pastry is hard and really, you just end up with ice cream no matter how you look at it.
Would I come back? Perhaps. I see that neighborhood people patronize the bistro, and in a sea of over-priced eateries, Bliss 46 fills a need. I hope they stay in business.
BYOB & no corking fee!
This small little bistro was a pleasure to dine in. We had made a reservation for 4 but only two of us showed up on time. We waited outside since we didn't want to crowd the doorway inside but then the waiter invited us to sit down early since he didn't want us waiting out in the cold. Since it was our first time here we asked for his recommendations. Monday thru Thursday they have a prefix menu for $20 and it comes with an appetizer, main course (I had the steak and it was cooked perfectly) and ice cream dessert. It's a perfect place to catch up with friends since the noise level is conversational. This place would also be a cute date spot! They serve brunch here on the weekend; and BYOB, you cant beat that! Being here brought back so many memories for me since I grew up in the area long ago. I'm glad to see that part of my dad's old photo store has turned into such a warm and cute restaurant.
Brunch here today while in the area. In honor of National Eggs Benedict Day, of course that's what I ordered, or there version of it.
First if they have Eggs Benedict on there menu I would think they would know what today is. They didn't. Very disappointing.
Well it wasn't true Eggs Benny anyway. Looked like regular sliced ham on an English muffin with a poached egg and what I guess is there version of Hallendais sauce. Oh yes and with French fries.
Back to the restaurant for a moment. It's on a side street, off Queens Blvd so not readily visible but the interior was very nice and the waiter was nice. I got the impression it is family run. Not very busy, only one other couple when we were there so 30 minutes for our food was a little long wait time.
Three stars is the best I can give but you may think differently. May try it again.
A very good, but not great, neighborhood mainstay that confirms 4-star status for its phenomenal prices and warm service. The minute you walk in, you feel immediately at ease due to the lovely jazz music and friendly waiters. (It's also BYOB, which is always a plus!) I ordered the $20 prix fixe – appetizer, entree, and dessert – while my mom ordered the mussels and cod. The mussels were DELICIOUS, juicy and well-seasoned. My mushroom ravioli appetizer was also tasty, particularly the mushroom sauce, but a little small, even for a prix fixe.
Considering the price, the hanger steak d'onglet was out of park, both in quantity and in quality (charred outside with a perfectly cooked, medium rare middle). The roasted vegetables and frites on the side were very good, but not remarkable. My mom's cod was similarly well cooked, and over a bed of fluffy mashed potatoes. To punctuate the meal were the profiteroles with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. Sweet, but not overbearing.
In retrospect, all the dishes were very good, while the mussels and the steak were worth writing home about. I'll certainly be a regular, especially for its attentive service and (very) reasonable prices.
This restaurant is great. I had the pre-fix dinner for $19.99. This included appetizer which I had a mesclun salad, entre which I had the roasted chucked with mash potatoes, and desert which was vanilla ice cream with sauce and pastry. The atmosphere is very quaint but since I went in the hot summer they need to turn their air up. The best part is the BYOB policy. For French food the price is great.
The food was okay. My boyfriend and I came on Valentines Day. We had a reservation for 8:00 but showed up at 7:30 and were seated upon arrival, which was a plus. However, it took half an hour for the bread basket to arrive, half an hour for appetizers, an hour for our entrees to arrive, and another 20 minutes wait time for dessert. The entire restaurant was filled up, but while we were waiting for our entrees, I noticed that only 6 tables were eating while the rest waited for their food. We finished dinner at around 10pm. A plus is we go to bring our own bottle, otherwise, the food was okay and the service NONEXISTENT. By the time our entrees arrives, I was all filled up on bread. I couldn't finish my lamb and had to take it to go. The creme brûlée was good, but the apple tart was TERRIBLE. DO NOT order it. Looks can be quite deceiving. Asked the waiter twice to pack up my unfinished meal. He left with it and never came back. He finally remembered and gave me my togo bag when I asked him at the end of the meal.
But.. to my HORROR when I opened the box at home, IT WAS NOT WHAT I HAD EATEN AT THE RESTAURANT!!! HE GAVE ME SOMEONE ELSES HALF EATEN STEAK WHEN I HAD THE LAMB. WHAT IN THE WORLD?!?!
Basically, if you're looking to get full off bread and your own bottle of wine, not have room for your entrees, have nonexistent service, AND GET SOMEONE ELSE'S LEFTOVER TO GO, this is the place for you!
Checked the place out for Sunnyside restaurant week. The ambience is homey. The service is surly. The food is subpar. The potato and leek soup I ordered came out with a congealed layer of film on top. While I was still spooning the soup into my mouth, the waiter came and took my soup away. I had ordered a steak and asked for it to be medium rare, which he brought out with it being well well done. When I inquired why the steak was way over cooked, he said the cook cooked it early at the same time as the appetizer and if I wanted it bloodier I should have eaten the appetizer faster. Huh?!
I wanted to love this place because it's so cozy, romantic, has byob policy, reasonably priced and in queens however the food was pretty average. I tried the ravioli truffle, cod fish and vanilla creme puff dessert. They do have a good price fix deal for $20. Everything tasted pretty good but there wasnt any oomph factor and i didnt even notice that i was eating french food. it seemed more like everyday american food. The place is a bit tight also and the service is average so nothing really stands out but it's still a good restaurant to check out if you're in sunnyside.
