I've never actually been to this restaurant in person but I order from it frequently and while the burritos are unusually expensive, it always tastes really delicious and is guaranteed to fill you up. While you can eat a burrito if you would like, you can also use it to hit somebody on the head if somebody tries to break into your home because they are about 4 pounds each. I'm giving it four stars because it is very good but they could definitely come down in price because I don't see any gold woven throughout the beans and rice. The vegan option substitute for cheese is a dollar 50 extra, give me a break.
Man I love this place! What's better than a large Tex-Mex spot with tons of seating both indoors and outdoors, cheap drinks (uhhh, hello 8$ pints of margaritas!) and vegan options on the menu beyond the typical "no meat, no cheese, no sour cream, extra beans" scenario?
To expand on that, they have tofu options, vegan cheese and vegan sour cream in addition to vegan mayo blends for the quesadilla!
My favorite burritos here are the "Super Vegenator" which is a whole wheat large wrap tortilla with quinoa, vegan cheese, spinach and mushrooms with beans and the fixins'. Next to that is the toasted tofu burrito and spinach burritos.
Did I mention they have 8$ pints of margaritas? And for only an extra dollar you can add flavors like the delicious huckleberry, pomegranate, and more!
I've had quite a few messy, I mean memorable nights at blockheads. I don't know how to describe it, the food is some kind of amazing and the drinks, the drinks!!!! So many flavors of margaritas and sangria combos to please anyone. I wouldn't bring kids here and it can get loud. It's going to be a younger crowd and but the food is sooo worth it!
Terrific location with spacious outside seating. You don't find many Blockheads with ample al fresco dining areas like this with full picnic tables, and seating that wraps around the corner they are located on.
As the heat finally dipped below 90 degrees last night I hit this place up for a bite after finishing my gym workout. Sitting outside was not totally torture. Plus, I was hangry!
Needed to power back up, Bro!
The normal Blockheads menu that also includes a killer vegan selection of eats. I had the roasted butternut squash quesadilla and it was delicious! Tasted like a sweet candied dessert. More than enough on the plate and the price was righteous.
Nice servers working here. Attentive enough and they let us sit there chatting away well after closing the kitchen for the night.
Strong dranks too as you can never go wrong with their frozen margaritas. Different flavor options too. You can sit here and get blasted and it won't kill your wallet.
Also, free chips and salsa is always dope!
I actually really liked my burrito and margarita here. It's pretty cheap for a sit-down place, and avoids being too heavy or greasy or cheesy while still feeling a bit indulgent. I would definitely return.
Brought the family since these guys are close by.
Not impressed. The food is relatively expensive, portions are small (in comparison to other Mexican restaurants) and the plating was unimaginative. Even the drinks were "blah".
I will not be returning any time soon. For the money we spent I expect a lot more. Especially with so much competition in the neighborhood.
The food is good. But, I don't find it to be "authentic" cooking or with authentic Mexican ingredients. I usually get quesadillas or burritos, and I'm happy with them. However, the cheese can be a lil too powerful/mild/bitter… a better mix is needed. Their lunchtime margaritas/frozen drinks are really good aka strong and worth the price.
Outside seating is a plus, but of course when it's not super hot and sunny and humid and when you literally have to chew the air before swallowing it lol.
The staff is nothing to be praised … It's as if a bunch of friends are just hanging out chilling talking amongst themselves. Which is a cool environment, but not so cool if you're not attentive to your customers … the real reason why you're at work????
I'd recommend you visit at night, because it's the vibe that makes this place good. However, staff won't be any better.
OH and they ask for I.D.'s with your payment so remember your ID and scammers.. Beware! haha
Don't come here if you're expecting some fancy mexican food in a hip and trendy setting.
However if you are looking for really good and really cheap drinks and decent food then DEFINITELY give this place a try.
I live and work a few blocks down from the 90th St location and it has become mine and my friends' go-to place for post-work food and drinks.
I'm usually not a fan of frozen drinks but their alcoholic pink lemonade always hits the spot and packs a fair amount of alcohol. Also their margaritas are served in the traditional sized smallish glasses, but they bring you a whole shaker of it, so once you are done drinking your first glass, you just pour yourself another–all for cheaper than what you would pay for a single margarita anywhere else.
I've tried their quesadillas and burritos and thought they were all pretty good for what they were.
Also last time we were there we were served by Alex (I remember bc I am partial to the name) and he was super attentive and also v funny.
10/10 would reccomend
