This spot is pretty good (not as good as the original Blossom nearby). I had a bowl with rice, marinated kale, sweet potatoes, and buffalo "chicken". The portion is good but not for the price – they definitely charge way too much for this food, especially when you consider that they microwave the ingredients just before they give it to you. There's no way the food can be cooked and brought to you that quickly. If I'm having vegan food, why can't it be super healthy, too?
I would recommend getting the items that don't have a lot of dressings or sauces on them, because that's where the real food is. They add a lot of sugar, salt, and spicy additives to their foods and i wish they wouldn't.
Extremely overpriced, but I already mentioned that! It's glorified fast food, just be aware of that.
Seitan philly cheese steak, and the egg, cheese, and bacon muffin were delectable!!! I love that the food is so tasty, and is a great alternative to the real thing. I think I'll stop in there for lunch sometime this week. Great find, and fast delivery!
Post-yoga decided to look around the area for some quick clean eats. Options wise this place definitely focuses on clean eats and for vegan lovers. However the prices are really a bit ridiculous for the portion you get.
Ordered the Blue Velvet smoothie (acai, blueberries, strawberries, banana, vanilla, agave, soy milk) which was good but for a steep ~$10?! I'll stick to my home blender or opt for water when I'm out.
Also got the Power Up Kale Salad. Check the ingredients first if you have any food allergies! It was over $10 for the salad which was PRE-MADE too. No meat, just vegetables and quinoa. The dressing was decent but seriously not worth the price they charge. I can understand if you're charging that much for a specialty salad with more ingredients but the fact that it was also pre-made…. just disappointing. Didn't give anything else a try but being so overpriced just killed any enthusiasm to come back.
4 stars but more to be revealed after I try every item on the menu…
So, I have prided myself in the fact that I haven't eaten fast food since I was 12. It's been quite the streak. But Blossom Du Jour does actually deem itself a "fast food" (as opposed to fast casual, which I've eaten plenty of) establishment, so I suppose that streak is over. And I have no qualms about it. This place may serve food and it may be served to you quickly, but it's certainly devoid of the typical fast food joint features.
I'm currently on a quest to find the best healthy lunch spots around my office, and so far I'm doing quite well. I have a feeling this will become a staple of mine. Though the space itself is quite tiny, they actually have a ton of options. Bowls (you can choose up to 4 items w/ dressing or opt for one of their "suggested" preparations), salads, wraps, the choices go on and on. And all of it is vegan/organic/healthy/that whole package to boot! Today I went with a create-your-own bowl (kale/quinoa/grilled veggies/lemon un-chicken w/ tahini dressing) and it was fresh, flavorful and actually quite filling (how's that for unintentional alliteration?). The un-chicken was surprisingly tasty for, well, something pretending to be chicken that honestly doesn't taste a whole lot like chicken. But it was actually an improvement from the boring grilled chicken I'd order elsewhere (at least to my taste buds). This place is evidence that vegan food can be just as yummy and creative as carnivorous creations (that alliteration was intentional). V-cheese, un-chicken – it may all sound a bit suspect but I assure you – from someone who willingly eats meat – it's great.
One more note about the ingredients: Blossom Du Jour has a nice little glossary online/on their paper menu that elaborates on these lesser known products for the new/situational vegan (aka me). Instead of worrying that they're loading a bunch of crap into their vegan products to make them taste like the real thing, you can plainly read the origins of said products. More vegetarian/vegan venues should do this. Just for nutrition science nerds like me.
Update (not worth writing an updated review): I've since tried the tofu scramble with hot sauce and it might beat out the un-chicken as far as taste is concerned. Unless you're incredibly hungry, that's the only protein source you'll need in a blossom bowl – it's far more filling than the un-chicken.
It pains me a little bit to write this update for a vegan spot in the city, however the last few times I have been to Blossom du jour have not been good experiences. First off they seem to have changed some of their ingredients or rather added alot of oil/grease to the mix. I used to eat the UnChicken Caesar wrap quite regularly but lately It has been smothered in pesto sauce that is pretty intolerable. Today I tried the UnChicken Grilled sandwich and again it was overly sauced and kinda gave me a gross I just ate McDonald's feeling.
The Red Velvet cupcakes I used to enjoy, have lately been dry and not fresh. They need to throw out the old baked goods and stock fresh ones every day!
And lastly it pained me to see the "Grade Pending" health board sign on the window, meaning they received a "B" (not good) or a "C" ( major violations) and are challenging it with the City.
The employees of late, all act like zombies as well, which would be fine if the food was fabulous, but it is so Not Fabulous anymore.. Sad times.
Stumble by this place in my way to the subway. The skyscraper was delicious. It really reminded of a Cheeseburger especially with their vegan cheese. I definitely want to try other things on the menu like the wraps.
I have been coming here for years.
This place offers hearty vegan options, tasty salads, daily soup, juices and pretty yummy desserts.
The other day I got the skyscraper. It really tasted like the vegan option for a Big Mac. Come hungry if you are ordering this item as it's packed with a veggie pattie, 2 fried onion rings, bacon, pickles, cheese and a sauce similar in taste to the Big Mac thousand island sauce. This place is dangerously close to my gym so I will be frequenting this place more often, probably for this satisfying burger!
I guess it's alright. For the price and the food, there are so many other options. $10+ for a mediocre sandwich, not if I had a choice. There are not so many parties here as well, only a few cookies.
