BLT Prime
“Like everyone says, the pate and popovers (kinda reminded me of Yorkshire pudding – light and fluffy!)”
“The starters of bread with chicken liver pate and a mushroom-shaped bread baked with cheese were hits for the whole group as well.”
“We went for the Porterhouse Steak medium to be shared by 2 and the other to orders were the Rack of Lamb and the Dive Scallops.”

YAAAAAAAAAASSS BISHHH! *Rihanna voice*
Wow! What a good time BLT Prime was! I loved this place. Everything I had was exceptional. I made reservations and as soon as I stepped in, I was immediately seated. Customer service was efficient and timely just the way I like it. My meal was PERFECTION! Legit one of the best wedge salads I've ever had (#SaladQueen here). My crab cakes were amazing! My mac-n-cheese was flavorful! My mom ordered the short ribs and lobster and WOW! Phenomenal! Dessert was also great. I loved the little donuts and chocolate sauce! Everything was really, really fabulous. I would def come back when I'm in NYC again!
Our reservations were for 7:30pm. We got here around 6:30 and had a drink at the bar. It was pretty quiet when we arrived, less crowded than I think we were expecting for a Friday night. I had the grapefruit margarita which was very tasty. We were seated a little early and started with a bottle of wine and the tuna tartare — this was delicious, very fresh and tasty. The bread they give you to start is also soooo good. The decor is really beautiful in here. I was happy we sat down before the sunset because the ceiling is all windows so it feels very light and open.
I ordered my filet medium and it was a little bit dry… my friend had his medium rare and it was definitely much tastier. We ordered the creamed spinach and truffled mashed potatoes for our sides. They were both delicious. I think I enjoy the sides at steakhouses more than I enjoy the actual steak anyway, so the sides made up for my steak not being as good as I expected.
I think there are better steakhouses at similar price points throughout Manhattan, so I don't know if I'll be back anytime soon. But I was really pleased with the overall experience!

I used to be a hardcore carnivore but now my diet has become a lot more varied and I can go to any restaurants that have good food, whether they serve meat, seafood or vegetables. That also means I don't go to steakhouses as much as I used even though New York certainly isn't short on steakhouses in the city. The BLT franchise from ESquared Hospitality group has long been on my radar, but they always lagged behind in my hit list given that there are so many other places that I want to check out. I recently received a surprise gift card from my client at work and a close friend visiting from out of town wanted to have a steak dinner, so I figured this is the perfect opportunity to check out BLT Prime in Gramercy area. Overall, I was pleased with the quality of steak at the restaurant.
A good steakhouse always has a nice bacon dish (like Peter Luger or Wolfgang's). The one that I had at BLT Prime, which came with grilled prawns, wasn't as impressive. I thought the bacon wasn't as tender as I expected, and there was nothing that I could remember about this dish. On the other hand, I thought both steak dishes we ordered (NY strip and filet mignon) were quite nice. They were properly seasoned (i.e. no overuse of salt) and cooked more or less perfect medium rare. I really enjoyed the texture of the dishes, and the side dishes of creamed spinach and truffle mashed potatoes certainly helped enhance the experience. I was beyond full after a period of intense devouring of the meats but it was really hard to stop! Ice cream and sorbet (we tried banana ice cream as well as strawberry and lemon sorbet) helped me sooth the meaty sensation in my mouth a bit.
The restaurant has a bit more modern vibe than other traditional steakhouses, with a lot of young crowd instead of gentlemen in suits that you would typically associate steakhouses with. Getting a reservation wasn't that difficult, although the restaurant was nearly fully packed throughout the course of our meal. BLT Prime has a full bar, with extensive wine selection (I wish they could've stocked a little more affordable wine bottles). I wouldn't say it is the best steakhouse in the city, but BLT Prime more or less delivers if you have a huge craving for steaks.
A handsome boy told me to meet him at Penn Station and dress to impress, as our second date destination was going to be a surprise. One short cab ride later we're standing in front of BLT Prime, his father's favorite restaurant. It absolutely did not disappoint.
Popovers – Not sure what all the hype is about. Honestly, I found them dry and bland. They come with a little recipe card to take home, in case you want to try your hand at baking some.
Wines – We had four glasses of the choice malbec from our server, as there were two of them on the wine list. Very rich, deep, and spiced.
Tuna Tartare – Fantastic pairing with the avocado, I could have had another serving.
32 oz. Porterhouse for Two – This 28-day dry-aged prime steak was definitely the star of the night. So much flavor! And cooked perfectly to medium rare. Every single bite was just as amazing as the last.
Sides – The truffled mashed potatoes are light, creamy, melt-in-your mouth goodness! And the hen over woods mushrooms had an interesting, crispy texture without being overly greasy.
Not going to lie, nothing here is cheap. But you get what you pay for – a dining experience reserved for special occasions with excellent food, upscale atmosphere, and quality service. If his intention was impressing me enough to secure a third date, he succeeded.
Outstanding portions great service, incredible popover bread to start, ok steak and sides so why only 3 stars?
Loud, cacophonous room makes it hard to think let alone hear what your companions are saying. It's back to keen's, double eagle or any number of adequate steak spots for me where you don't leave with your ears ringing badly.
BLT Prime is my first and hands-down favorite steakhouse in NYC! I've been to several steakhouses in New York and keep crawling back to BLT… on special occasions! The food is amazing from beginning to end!
You'll start with complimentary popover bread (the yummiest bread I've ever tasted!) and duck liver pate. The bread comes hot and moist- so delicious! My personal favorites off the menu are:
– Grilled Double-Cut Smoked Bacon- a must at any steakhouse
– Wasabi mashed potatoes
– Filet Mignon- my go-to; I like my meat lean
– Porterhouse for 2 (or 3!)- you'll get different cuts of beef along with the bone marrow
I've been here on dates, double-dates, group celebrations- it's a great place to eat for any occasion. Make sure to wear a loose outfit to hide your tummy- you'll be super full after 🙂
Went for V day on Saturday. Nice ambience and vibe. We ordered the three (they only have three) different kinds of oysters as appetizer. They were ok considering it is $20 for 6. then the steak for two which is the 36 day dry aged tomahawk. It came with bone marrow 🙂 The waitress mentioned that the portion is slightly small for two but I thought it was fine since I don't eat regular american size. The dessert menu did not look interesting enough for me to order.
I heard their tuna tartare is amazing and they have a new surf option. I ordered a virgin cocktail with passion fruit and white cranberry, which I liked. Bf had a scotch (ew? lol)
The steak was good but I didn't think it was one of the best steakhouse around. Not a bad choice though.
Two Words: Expense Account.
I'm always interested in convincing other people to pay for my food whenever possible, but some places it makes a little more sense. BLT Prime is foremost among these fine places, and the food is as rich as the people you hope are buying it for you.
I don't believe I've had anything I didn't like, but of particular note are the tuna tartare, the popovers (if only for the presentation and the fact that you can slather them in butter), the chicken liver pate, the cowboy ribeye, and the carrot cake.
If you can have all that for a meal and still be sad, there's no hope for you.
