Absolutely terrible! I've had better $5 Chinese take out!
This is not authentic Japanese food. Teriyaki chicken was dry, and not grilled well. zero flavor. Vegetables all tasted the exact same! No texture difference either. Cheap and zero attention to detail! Exactly the opposite of the culture I know and love. I grew up in japan and enjoy tasting Japanese/Asian fusion dishes all over the city but this was just baffling.
I'm insulted. I want my money back. I still can't get over that I paid $16 for frozen flavorless garbage.
We stumbled upon this place because we were in the mood for sushi. The menu looked good, the placed looked cozy and cute so we gave it a try and I'm so glad we did! The specialty rolls were great! We had the Disney roll and the Mango roll. Both delicious! It was a nice low key where you can hold a conversation without yelling over each other. The staff was quick and to the point. No complaints at all!
It is nice to have a simple, no frills yet good Japanese restaurant amidst all the same type of restaurants in the nearby Chelsea location (i.e. Thai or trendy). Lunch specials are great deals at $9 for bento boxes and $12 for 3 sets of rolls with choice of salad or soup. It's quite a lot! I opted for option b which consists of spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and California rolls. All were fresh, and served in big portions so you won't be leaving hungry. Not only is the food a great value, this is a nice restaurant where you can enjoy your meal whether by yourself, with co-workers, or with friends.
I'm probably in here once a week to pick up lunch for the powers that be at work, but this last time when someone offered to pick up my lunch I decided to order something. First off, I can't speak to the what the sushi tastes like but I can tell you that from coming here to pay and pick them up, it's not cheap…
So I decided to order the chicken katsu bento box. $12, seemed reasonable and I like bento boxes for the fact that you get to sample a little of everything. Imagine my surprise when I got to my desk and I had this huge box? (I mean it's a plastic container) of food. Chicken katsu, a small california roll, shumai, a salad, steamed rice and miso soup.
Miso soup was really good. I generally don't order miso at a restaurant because I'm usually not that impressed but at Blue Ginger it was very tasty and came with a good amount of tofu in it. The rice is rice and you can't mess that up…the shumai I also thought was really good, probably one of the better that i've had recently. The california roll was okay, not that it was bad, but how can you really say that a california roll is amazing? Tastes just like any other california roll you may get anywhere else. Now, the chicken katsu…they give a generous amount of it and I was struggling to finish it all but like the fatty champ I am, I ate every bit of it. The sauce that came with it had a little bit of bite to it which I LOVED. The only thing that I can say I wasn't a fan of was the salad. The dressing did not do it at all for me and I have absolutely had better. It was…I don't know just bitter and didn't have real flavor to it.
Overall, a pretty good lunch. I'd get this again.
My wife and I were on our way to vip room but wanted to carb ourselves up before including alcohol coma. We found this spot and fell in love.
They had a nice sushi menu along with some cooked entrees. The cocktail list was pretty solid and priced well. Service was good and you get exactly what you pay for. Not necessarily super high quality cuts that you would get at a high end sushi restaurant. You get the type of sushi that you could have every Wednesday night with your spouse.
I would come back again.
Holee Crap. This place was great. I loved their cocktails and sake list…and of course their sushi. Their sushi was bombtastic. I had a roll called "Sex On the Beach." It was better than sex. Seriously. Their staff is very charming and helpful. I sat at the sushi bar, and the sushi chef was great. I made a modification to a regular roll, and he was like, "Sure! Why not?" (Actually, those were his exact words). Great place to have a nice and somewhat inexpensive sushi dinner before hitting a show at the Highline Ballroom.
If you're absolutely starving, and since me and my friend was craving sushi we decided to stop in. I guess this place has hiked indicated by the menu with whiteout on it but the prices are still good for Manhattan.
Not so bad. Not so good but yet again not so bad.
The highlight about this place is the lunch special. Any three rolls listed in the that section of the menu for $13 and it comes with miso soup. I ordered the spicy crab roll, spicy chicken tempura roll, and salmon avocado roll. The miso soup was very salty and I am a person who has a high salt tolerance. I was pleased with the quality of sushi, considering the price. The fish was pretty fresh and everything was made to order. The staff could have been more friendly but they refilled our drinks on time.
Totally legit sushi in the neighborhood. Good combo specials that make it easy to order family style with your friends.
Seating is limited, but I'm not sure how busy they get since we had dinner at 10pm.
