I absolutely love Mexican food, so I was stoked to give this place a try since it's about 5 minutes away from where my grandma lives in Tuckahoe. It was a weekday evening in mid-October and there weren't many people eating there. There was an abundance of waitstaff there however, including 2 hostesses chattin' it up (who were helpful when summoned, unlike the waiter), many waiters and a few bartenders tending to the patrons watching the 'futbol' game on TV.
We ended up having a pitcher of Red Sangria and ever since I had it, I have been longing to have some more! There is so much wrong with how people make Sangria all over the place, and it was really pleasant to enjoy a Sangria that tasted part dry wine, part fruity, and a small part sweet. I'm not a sweet wine person so this Sangria really hit the spot for me. For dinner, I had the Quesadilla Supremo, which is a very tasty mix of skirt steak, shrimp (although I don't remember it having much shrimp) and cheese (among the normal accompaniments) with a side of mole' sauce. Very delish…I wanted dessert but unfortunately the waiter took so long between giving us our meal and taking our plates that it was just too late for me to wait for dessert… but according to their website, they have won awards for it (and it does look delectable). So I highly recommend having it if you do stop by here for a meal.
I have been to better Mexican places, but this is a great eatery all around (with prices pretty reasonable given where it is). I can't attest to how loud or crazy it might be on the weekends though…
The food was excellent and very good price . They serve a lot of food ! I even had desert and that was excellent . The drinks were pretty cheap and strong . Staff was friendly and that made the experience even better . I am glad to have came here .
I went with a couple of people and our meals and service were all good. They got my order slightly wrong but not enough that I sent it back. It gets pretty loud in there.
Came here a couple weekends ago with my aunt and cousin. I urged her to pick another restaurant after reading these reviews and honestly becoming a bit fearful about the longevity my life. But, you know when the real adults with real salaries are paying for dinner…you just shut your mouth and say, "Thank you, Auntie Karen, my precious angel!"
We ordered calamari which, to their credit, wasn't greasy at all and I like that. It was probably the best thing about this dining experience. I wasn't drinking, but decided to have a sip of my aunt's margarita (turns out based on what they served her, she wasn't drinking either–strike 1). The calamari was crisp and I can only hope that it was fresh, but didn't do anything to send me running through the streets or Yelposphere about how amazing it was…it was MEH.
Then to accompany lots of things they have this "Chipotle salsa"…tastes like they literally sprinkled some chipotle powder into a bottle of Old El Paso salsa…Nothing here is fresh. Everything tastes like it came "fresh" out of a can, and that's just friggin lazy! How do they continue to occupy this very large restaurant space and give such crap service and food?!
Don't even get me started on the menu. This isn't Mexican food. This is Tex-Mex and burgers masquerading as Latin cuisine. They should be so ashamed of themselves. Or not…they're making a killing because people are telling them "job well done" after eating their slop. I was so thoroughly displeased…I'm happy that I wasn't the one paying for this meal because my broke ass would've demanded a refund!
Chicken fajitas—grilled chicken was good. comes with a really insignificant portion of rice and beans, which were probably runner up to the calamari and they have this coconut shrimp on the menu which, I didn't get to taste but heard excellent things about…haha like that will fool me into ever eating anything from their kitchen again. Shut it down.
They had nothing spicy to speak of and my all-time greatest pet peeve about a "Mexican" restaurant is when I ask for fresh peppers of any kind to add some heat and they hit me with, "sorry we only have the pickled ones" blah blah. No thank you, and good night.
A little over-priced but very delicious. Stick with the actual mexican food, avoid the burgers. The margaritas are tasty and so is the taco salad. The fajitas are delicious. Definitely worth trying!
I do like their food. Their atmosphere is pretty festive looking. The three or so times I went, the service was great – with one exception. When I looked at my credit card charge from them afterward, they charged me extra, which made me furious. I called them and luckily they straightened it out and comped me for the extra bucks. Because of that, I always make sure to cross out any extra spaces in the receipt so no one can "add" anything of their own. Anyway, I digress…the food is delicious, albeit, massive. There's always something to take home and even the leftovers are filling. There's no parking – just street parking so come with quarters. I recommend!
Blue Moon is pretty decent; it's not my first choice for Mexican but the food and atmosphere are pretty good so it's worth going.
Located pretty close to the main retail hub in Bronxville, Blue Moon's atmosphere is kinda mixed. Upon entering there's a bar area with big screens and to the right is the main dining area. The decor was typical of a Mexican restaurant, but a standout was the mosaic tables which were very pretty. Besides the decor, the whole restaurant looks a little tired; the dining room floor is carpeted which really isn't ideal. Looking around, there were crumbs and such all over the floor (I will say however that midway through our meal someone passed an electric broom).
The chips were good – warm and crispy paired with a tasty salsa. We opted for guacamole which was pretty good as well; they don't prepare it table side (which I don't mind) but I prefer it a little chunkier with a hint more lime. For my main I had the baja chicken tacos (breaded chicken w/ chipotle honey glaze, lettuce, pico de gallo, and ranch dressing) which was served with rice and choice of refried or black beans (I went with black). Overall a tasty meal.
Service was good, and overall I had a good meal. There's nothing really outstanding about Blue Moon which is why it's a 3 for me, but for a local Mexican restaurant with a casual feel it's a good choice.
Went here for a birthday party with my girlfriend. Food was decent, but nothing that really stood out in my mind. They have karaoke apparently, with no type of volume control, and a relatively small space. This translated into a massive headache that I got from some tone-deaf patrons while I was trying to eat my burrito.
