After tagged this place for a year, we finally got a chance to visit.
It is hard to find a parking spot right outside, and it is better to park one block north(one hour or free after 7pm). It is also to make a reservation, as there are only 11 tables(8 inside and 3 outside) and a fee bar seats. There became a full house a few minutes after we sat. I can tell that staffs were overwhelmed, for 1. Forget to asking for drinks before food order, and 2. Forgot one of our appetizer before the entree. One gentleman was super busy while other girl seems to be over relax. We really appreciate that the three chefs behind the counter worked their best to feed all 20 people at the same time (too bad that almost all of us walked in together).
The sushi is delicious. The dots hell crab had too many coating and over fried. I could not taste any crab flavor. Our uni is a little overpriced, $7, for one piece. But I like the quality, creamy and sweet. The soy sauce is well balanced with a little sweet in it as well. My wife had a spicy jalapeño roll, telling that his place is modern contemporary sushi. It has lobster at the bottom and spicy tuna over the roll, topping with a thin slice of jalapeño and caviar. Surprisingly, the spicy is well balanced, without overwhelming the fish.
Good sushi. I have had better but I also have had worse. Service wasn't great. Prices compare to most other sushi places. Unfortunately it wasn't the experienced I thought I would had despite all of the reviews.
Fresh, reasonably priced sushi, with friendly service.
The rolls are creative and well prepared.
The specials are a touch overpriced, but offer some nice options if you're willing to pay a few dollars more.
The restaurant is quite small, only about a dozen or so tables, fitting about 30 or so people–They add a couple of (surprisingly well-tended to) tables in the warmer season on the front sidewalk.
BYOB
You'd be wise to make a reservation on a Fri or Sat night. This place gets pretty packed.
I'm giving Blu wasabi be a five star review or not because it really deserves five stars but because it is the best Sushi Place in the Madison and Chatham area. You get a ton of sushi for the money and the sushi is generally pretty high-quality. However this is by no means comparable to some of the better sushi places in New York City. For instance the sushi chefs are not Japanese but they are from China. They have a 5 piece omakase menu which is obviously not a complete meal. However the fact that they even have one is a plus for this area. I had the sushi deluxe and I was absolutely stuffed by the end. My entire bill came out to be $33 with tip and that included the soup 12 pieces of sushi roll and dessert. I brought my own drinks and had a wonderful meal. I will be back
I walked in with two of my friends on a busy Saturday night. Surprisingly, there was no wait time and they were able to accommodate us immediately. As soon as we walked in we realized it was a BYOB so if we ever come back, it's something to remember for next time!
Unfortunately, it is such a small space that we were at a table that was cramped up right next to another table. The servers and other customers were constantly squishing to get by, which was probably the most negative thing about this place.
Other than that, the atmosphere is cozy enough, with pop music played softly in the background, and some disney channel on to entertain yourself if you are into that sort of thing (I am.)
I ordered a specialty sushi roll (about $15) and an eel & cucumber roll (about $5). They were both absolutely delicious and fresh. No complaints. The quantity I got was more than adequate for a dinner. As with most quality sushi places, the presentation was outstanding on every plate. My friends ordered some pad thai along with their sushi. The presentation was again, beautiful, but when I asked them about the quality of their dish they said the first bite was like a 7/10 but it goes downhill from there. (So if I were you, I'd stick with ordering just the sushi.)
The service was very nice, but because it was such a small area it seemed like every couple of minutes somebody came by to see if we needed anything. I guess I'm just the type of person that can feel smothered in that sort of environment.
Overall, great fresh sushi at a reasonable price, what more can you ask for?
This is my go-to place when I want sushi for lunch. They have a special of three rolls for $12.95 that includes miso soup and a small salad with ginger dressing.
I usually get the salmon and avocado roll, the yellowtail and scallion one and the eel and avocado. Hey, I can never get enough avocado, especially when it is as creamy and ripe as this place's. The soup is ok and the salad is nothing to write home about, but the rolls are quite good. I always take out, but the space looks perfectly acceptable to eat in. Service is friendly, too.
By all means, try it!
Solid lunch spot. Good lunch specials. I stopped in around 11:30 and I was the only person in the room. Immediate service. Friendly staff. Quick in and out.
Easy to find location. Modern, dim lit, romantic vibed restaurant. Their service was friendly, quick, and efficient. Everything was very clean.
I got the beauty and the beast roll with miso soup. The miso soup was good! It wasn't overly salty and a good amount of tofu and seaweed in it. I always get like 2 pieces so it's never enough, but I'm glad they piled it in. The sushi roll had eel, eel sauce, salmon, avocado, crunchy flakes and some other ingredients. The roll is nicely made, sometimes I have issues with them falling apart and it's not because of my chopstick skills. The flavors were great, for some reason I felt like this roll should have been a bit colder and not as warm as it was served. The ingredients were fresh though.
I also got a pineapple fried rice to go so I will check back in on its verdict.
