I was a little skeptical since I wondered if Indian food, cheap pizza and lottery tickets was too broad a business model. I was confused when the counter guy walked away from me while I was trying to order twice. And I was turned off when the cashier lied to someone who asked whether the place had a bathroom (the prospective user didn't seem like the most charming fellow in the world, but still, it was tacky.)
But then the massive $6 dosa arrived. The filling with potato and fiery chopped potatoes worked well on its own, but the add-ons took it to a new level. There was coriander chutney, plus a red thing I should be able to identify but can't and a more obscure topping that seemed to involve some kind of grain.
* Service at the counter was very confused.
* Parathas (had aloo and menthi, which is fenugreek) were not bad tasting, but heavy/greasy.
* Channa massala and dal makhni were decent.
* The place has an air of food-safety violations to it. I can't say why. It had a B rating on the window when I went, and the kitchen is open–you can see the chef preparing most of the Indian dishes, if you come at the right time, which is pretty neat. But there was just something a little confused and sub-par about it all.
* Strangely enough, I would give this place a second chance. I'd be curious to try their stock lunch special.
I was totally psyched about this place after reading about it, but it wasn't as great as I had hoped. We got the bel puri, papri chaat, and dokla. All three were decent, but lacked oomph. I loved that is is a tiny stall inside a pizza place, and I loved that it was a one-man operation and I will continue to support it for that reason, but it won't be my first stop for chaat.
Portions are huge.
This review is for Bombay Fast Food, which is located within 6th Avenue Pizza. This guy serves up some of the freshest chaat I've ever tasted! We tried the samosa chaat as well as the papdi chaat, and both were superb! Each plate was $4.99 and was an obscene amount of food — probably good for 2 people each. You definitely get your money's worth!
I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a quick, simple lunch. Don't expect much from the interior, as it has a pizza joint, a spanish place, and this indian place all within one roof. Definitely mouthwatering though!!
This place could very well have great Indian food but because it's trying to be two restaurants in one I'm rating the pizza which unfairly brings down the overall rating of this business.
That said, the pizza is down right nasty!! I'm not sure starving homeless people would want to eat the pizza, I threw half of it into the garbage & I was hungry. The pizza is tasteless, the sauce taste is non-exsistant and the crust taste like wonder bread rather than dough. They also coat the crust with some kind of tasteless powder that gets on your lips when you eat it; Yuck!!
I'd opt for the pizza next door.
Servers were well confused. Only had the gajar halwa. Real small portion for the 3 dollars spent (was maybe 2 or 3 small spoonfuls.
I wasn't impressed with the food here, but it was end of day, which may be why there were SLIM pickings and the food wasn't very fresh. I went with a bowl of spiced chickpeas (the ONLY item on the hot bar) for $3 and a veggie samosa for $1. Neither were spectacular but they were cheap, quick, and veg. This area is very much lacking good vegetarian food so I was really happy to find this restaurant and I hope to return during the day, when the food is hopefully fresher.
