  1. One of the hottest Indian buffet style restaurant in the Financial District. This place gets really crowded during lunch hour. I have to say I'm in love with their lamb vindaloo, basmati rice, aloo curry, aloo paratha, and vegetable somas. The seasoning is just right and I always have a fulfilling lunch.

They have two buffet stations set up with the same exact dishes, which makes the amount of time on line insignificant.

There is also a seating section, which can be occupied quickly. However, don't get discouraged since most of their customers tends to evacuate the place fairly quickly. Lots of folks also sit outside during the warm weather.

Get this, they also serve their food in the traditional Indian silverware. Priceless!

The prices are reasonable with a substantial amount of food. No joke, pretty much all the Indian food lovers in the Financial District visit Bombay restaurant on a weekly basis.

  2. I came here for lunch and had to leave work early, because the food make me sick.
    1pm- happily eating lunch
3pm- a waterfall ensues in the toilet
4pm- felt so sick I had to leave work early
The journey home was difficult. I was trying so hard not to puke on the subway. I could not even stand, I had to fight for a seat.
5pm- made it home. Sat next to the toilet. Thank goodness my Roomate came home early and was able to get me water and pepto.
    530pm- I'm dying!
545pm- the puking begins. Happens more than once.

I was so horrified by this experience,I am never coming back here.

  3. Some coworkers and I ate here for lunch and the place was packed. My coworker raved about this place and remembers when it used to be Baluchi's.  There were a lot of customers who appeared to be from Indian descent so I said the food will be great, LOL. There were two long separate lines and I was a bit confused if it made a difference on which one you went on, but they moved quick.  I ordered the curry lamb, rice, vegetables and naan and a can of soda for$12. I always compare my Indian meals to my favorite Indian spot, "curry in a hurry" in Midtown and it's always been a better deal.  The food was just okay, the lamb and naan were good. I didn't like that they curried the vegetables which was just too much curry for me.  We ate inside and they had a few chairs and tables outdoors but they were all taken.  I would return here for some Indian food when I'm in the area.

  4. The menu was great . They had lots of vegetarian dishes .! Which is great cause I'm a vegetarian ! The waiter was very attentive and friendly. The place was clean. Loved their decor. The place doesn't have that strong smell of curry like other Indian places do . Surprisingly . Lol.

  5. My job ordered a ton of stuff from here for a co-workers birthday and I was tasked with picking it up. My boss had sworn by their briyani, and I had had it once myself and really liked it. But I have to admit, when I walked in I was expecting a nice sit down restaurant, and was surprised to find a cafeteria type space. I didn't make me hopeful for the food, however- appearances can be deceptive. While this was far from the best Indian I've had, it was solid, and I'd order from them again.

The garlic naan is on point. The samosas are a little more dense than I like, but are otherwise good. The shrimp briyani is pretty good, and they'll make things decently spicy if you ask them to. The chicken tikki masala is a little too sweet for me, and the tomato flavor is a little more pronounced than I like.

Service was excellent though. They had been told we were ordering for someones birthday and they went out of there way to separate the birthdays girl food and even gave us extra food and a dessert on the house! They were very kind when I showed up and even had someone help me bring all the bags outside. Nice people here!

  6. For lunch, there is a surprising amount of choice in the buffet. I had the chicken kabab and the vegetable curry. Both were awesome, just look at that chicken. Lots of vegetables in the curry too!

  7. I've been here a few times since i work in the area and i love Indian food; however, ive experienced much much better.

The most disappointing thing about Bombay is that you have to ask for sauce and even when you are ordering two full lunch meals they aren't happy about the request and slide a meager miniature plastic cup.  Most Indian restaurants that i go to always send the tolkien three sauces with my meal.

As if the annoyance upon my sauce request isnt enough "we usually dont give this" "….-_-….", the food has lost its quality.  I've always ordered the onion kulcha, nan, chicken tikka masala, chicken vindaloo and samosas.  Sadly, over the past year they have all become less than par.

In addition to the reduction in quality, the portions are not generous.

  8. Although this is most definitely Americanized (dumbed-down) "Indian Food," it's not half bad for what it is. Yes, I wish there were more spice. No, this is not authentic. Yes, the flavors are very much tamed and diluted. However, the meats they use are always lean and tender and plentiful, as are the vegetables, the prices are reasonable, and the portions are very generous. When I am craving authentic amazing Indian, I will just go elsewhere, but when I want something different than the usual, with satisfying portions & prices, this will definitely be on the back-burner as long as I live in the area.
