  1. So happy this cute little eatery is in Bay Ridge. I went on a Friday night and sat at their little bar. I'm pretty sure the bar tender was the only waitstaff person there as he was pretty busy. They have wine on tap that was delicious and anything that has tons of fried seafood options on their menu is a plus in my book. We ate their ceviche and I had the shrimp and chips! Yum . Highly recommend this place if you're in the area. Bonus for the bartender being on an episode of Broad City

  2. A new restaurant in the area.  Found this when I was looking for a place to eat out.  This is something different and exciting restaurant by reading the reviews and looking at the pictures on yelp.  Decided to come here on a sunday night but parking almost impossible.

We had their crabby mac, fried anchovies, grilled salmon burger, and the surf and turf burger.  Got a free beer for checking in on yelp too.  The crabby mac was tasty.  From the type of pasta they used to the tiny pieces of crab meat on top.  Me and my wife cleaned it out pretty quickly.  The fried anchovies were ok.  Nice and crispy with a spicy mayo dipping sauce.  Grilled salmon burger was nothing special.  The patty was a little dark and charcoaled.  The surf and turf burger was juicy and tender.  Had a good amount of lobster pieces.  After I had a taste of that I didn't really want my salmon burger anymore.

Overall, this is a clean establishment.  Service was fast and friendly.  The crabby mac and the surf and turf burger were pretty memorable.  Menu is a little on the small side.

  3. Loved the Crab Mac and Cheese.  Cheesy, crabby and garlicky.  Excellent mahi tacos bursting with flavor and spicy chipotle slaw.  Beer, key lime pie and great service rounded out the meal.

  4. Bon Chovi is a fairly new place in Bay Ridge.

This place is definitely pretty cool, its a rock and roll fish shack which is something totally different than what Bay Ridge is used to. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Whether you like rock music or not you will feel comfortable the music wasn't blaring loud at all. I cant stress enough how nice the staff was that was definitely a plus for me.

I started with the Calamari which was good. The chipotle mayo was to die for. For my entree I had the beer battered fish and chips. The food was good but the reason I decided to bring it down to 3 stars was because the food was a tad bit too greasy for me. Everything was very fresh but in a different oil maybe better. This is all going to be based upon personal preference because someone else may not mind. Overall good food? Yes. Would I come back? Yes. I think its a must try in Bay Ridge.

  5. Great seafood here.

I had heard a lot about Bon Chovie before it even opened and it certainly lived up to the hype when I tried it. Even my wife, who isn't the biggest seafood lover, is asking me when we're going to go back.

Unfortunately, the prices are a bit high (I wonder if they'll realistically last in Bay Ridge because of their high prices), but I definitely found it worth it for a weekend splurge. For instance, I got the surf and turf burger which was $22. It was out of this world, but, honestly, I don't see myself spending $22 on a burger again anytime soon (even here). Same thing with the Mahi, mahi tacos — Great, but at $7 a taco, I'll probably stick to El Puente for my fix.

Still, when I'm craving seafood and have a few extra bucks in my pocket, this will be at the top of my list.

  6. Bon Chovie's most interesting product may not be their fried anchovies- for me it was the chowder. It's made with sherry vinegar which adds an acidic twang to a tasty chowder. Like the conch chowder at my beloved Conchy Joe's in Jensen Beach Florida- the chowder here makes a splash with vinegar. So many appealing fried foods on menu- I went with a ceviche which was serviceable, but it's the chowder I will return for.

  7. Solid spot for dinner if you're in the Bay Ridge area! The Boyfriend and I came in on a Saturday night for dinner since we were in the area and didn't want to venture out into the city. There were a few tables already but we were seated right away.

First off, the service was great. Our waitress, who doubled as the bartender, was super friendly. We ordered their crab mac & cheese, but the kitchen sent out the calamari instead. When our waitress learned of the error, she gave us the calamari on the house so we'd have something to munch on while we waited for our mac & cheese. Both were really good – but the highlight of the meal was definitely the mac & cheese, which was rich and fragrant. I highly recommend it!

I had the lobster roll and the Boyfriend had the special of the day, which was a Grilled Tuna Ahi Burger with grilled pineapple and a wasabi mayo sauce. It was divine! I really enjoyed the grilled pineapple, which paired very well with the ahi tuna. A bit of sweet and salty at the same time! The lobster roll is probably the 2nd best one that I've ever had – 2nd only to Red Hook Lobster.

We finished off the night with a slice of Key Lime Pie, which was a great way to clear out the savoriness of all the dishes we had.

When the check came, we noticed that our waitress took off the mac & cheese as well from the bill, which was really nice of her. We didn't mind waiting at all for the dish since it was so good and we weren't in a rush anyways. It was just a super nice gesture that we really appreciated. They definitely earned a repeat customer!

  8. Not being so familiar with the neighborhood, we were out to explore so out of 3 possible places, we picked Bon Chovie. Did not regret.

I should say the rating for the food is 3 stars. We ordered fried anchovies, fish and chips and shrimps and chips. Shrimps and the chips was the best out of 3. Anchovies were kind of burned and had a bitter taste. Fish and chips were so so. Fries are okay.

What we liked the most is the atmosphere, service and the craft beers. The citrusy summer ale was so tasty for me, if you like light beer, definitely give a try. They also have IPA and one more choice that i did not catch.

Not the best place for groups, ideal for 2-3 people but there is one table for 6. Pretty cool music. Fast and friendly service.
