Friendly service, with pretty good food at reasonable prices.
Yes, like everyone says, it's tough to spot as it's set back from the road about 30 yards. Yes, the parking is a bit tight. However, there isn't really enough traffic or volume to make that an issue.
The dishes, while not the finest renditions I've had, are pretty much on point. One problem I have is the paltry amount of shrimp. If you're going to have an upcharge for shrimp, include a respectable amount.
They do offer "spice to order" so there's a tailored range of heat to meet anyone's needs/expectations.
Overall, a decent enough local place, though not truly a destination restaurant.
Boon Thai is pretty good for a suburban Thai restaurant. Portions are small, but the food is authentic and well prepared. The venue is clean and sleek with modern decor. Staff is friendly.
Just a note. Boon Thai is tucked away and can be hard to spot at first. There's a parking lot right in front.
Huh? How is this place 4.5 stars? It is super hard to find because the parking lot is in front of the restaurant, which is really deep in. They should probably put a sign up along the road. Parking is really weird… very tight and awkward angles. The restaurant is ok outside but cute inside. It has a "farm to table" feel which is kinda funny since that's not what kind of restaurant this is. Lunch special is $9.50 – $11.50 for noodles but does not include anything additional (salad, egg roll, dumplings) like other places do for ~$8.50. I was disappointed in my chicken pad-see-ew. It didn't look anything like the pictures that other reviewers have posted. It was really saucy and the flavor just didn't taste right. Maybe they were having an off day. True rating is 2.5 stars… service was good, food was not.
I was really excited when I found out a Thai restaurant had opened in Livingston. And only a five minute drive too! We ordered two lunch specials to go- green curry and mango chicken. Each was about $10, which is on par (or even higher) than lunch specials in NYC. I wasn't expecting anything spectacular, but good enough to satisfy my Thai cravings (which happen pretty often.)
The fact that it was 12:30PM and we were the only customers should have raised some red flags. Needless to say: Worst. Thai. Food. Ever. I am beyond disappointed! Usually when my first visit to a restaurant is meh, I give it another chance. But this place is awful. Not even worth trying a second time.
The mango chicken had practically no mangoes in it. And the mangoes that were in it were hard and disgusting. The chicken was an awkward texture that made me wonder if it was supposed to be crunchy or tender. It tasted more stale to me.
Green curry had all the wrong spices. This place obviously isn't authentic, but at least have the food taste decent! It was spicy, yes, but not the good kind of hot.
Finally, what really turned me off was the rice. Not the rice, but what was ON TOP of the rice. I don't know why, but I guess Boon Thai thinks people prefer a soggy, mushy spring roll over a crunchy one. It's the only explanation as to why they would place a spring roll on top of the rice. But honestly I have never seen any restaurant, Thai or not, pack a spring roll with the rice. Are they trying to save money by using fewer containers? I don't know. And I don't care to go back to find out.
I heard great things about this place from co workers but then read some of the 1 star Yelp reviews so I was a bit weary.
I had the drunken noodles with chicken which were just okay. It wasn't anything great but it wasn't bad either. The dish ($11) had a decent amount of chicken and veggies which would have used more flavor and there were way too many giant slabs of carrot..
Overall a meh experience. Would I come here again? Nope.
