Born Thai
“And oh, ask for the paper menus – they have a free entree every 10 deliveries, which is checked off by the delivery boys on the paper menu.”
“The penang was spicy with the right hint of coconut, and the green curry rivaled any we had in Cambodia.”
“I would like to say that the idiocy of one of the reviewers that putting menu in a DVD case is racist is just astounding.”

Best BBQ chicken. So soculant and tender. The green duck was Delicious. Also had the calamari …amazing. the duck roll needed more duck. The shrimp roll wasn't that amazing but the main course..BBQ chicken was a winner. So was the coconut sticky rice. Service was fantastic.
I am relatively new to enjoying Thai cuisine, so I cannot arrest to it being authentic. What I can say for sure is, Born Thai has excellent customer service, the food tasted excellent, with large portions..
Upon being seated, we asked about hot tea since it was a little chilly that night. Our server excused herself, then returned with a large clear box, stuffed with a very large selection of teas to choose from. A tea selection was made, the we placed our order. We started with spring rolls, and duck rolls for the appetizer. They were nice, thin, light, crispy, and the duck was very flavorful. The Honolulu fried rice special, with pineapple added, was simply awesome.. The fried shrimp accompaniment were huge, and cooked perfect. The rice was as well, plenty of flavor, without being too bold.. The Basil Chicken was very good; I was looking for a 'lighter' fare dish, and this hit the spot. Lots of vegetables, plenty of chicken, seasoned just right. We had a great time here, and looking forward to next visit.
I can't really say much about Born. The only thing I had here was the calamari. Came here after bar hopping. After the 2nd place, everything is a blur.
The calamari was good, though. And the location is convenient. I'll have to check it out when I'm sober. 🙂
I went to Born Thai last night with two friends. It seemed to be popular and we were looking to discover a new place along Flatbush. Special kudos to the bar tender, Somboon, who was personable and made excellent drinks. The lychee martini (which all of us ordered as our first round) was one of the best I've ever had. My friends and I shared the rock shrimp appetizer, which came with three huge shrimp in an interesting tamarind sauce and sweet glaze. For my main, I ordered the grilled shrimp salad which was also very good. Only thing, though, is that it had a lot of toppings — cilantro, shrimp, scallions, pineapples and apples — and not enough lettuce. Ultimately there was a lot of dressing on the plate and no lettuce to sop it up.
My friends both ordered the drunken noodles which they said was very tasty. They both had enough leftover to take some to go.
I would go back to Born Thai if I was in the area. The drinks were well priced and delish, the service was great, my water was always refilled and the ambiance was inviting. Could be a cute first date spot, too.
Great Thai food, the flavors are wonderful. Happy hour is the best $4 beer and $6 cocktails/wine.
Get the drunken noodles, thats for sure. I also had tofu fried rice and tofu pad see yue, they didn't excite my taste buds like the drunken noodles. Even though I enjoyed that dish, I did wish the portion size was bigger for the price I was paying.
After a pre-game with the fiancée and friend, we were still hungry. Walking along Flatbush on a rainy day isn't that pleasant. But, what stopped us in our tracks was the happy hour Born Thai still have. Plus, Thai food sounded quite promising and comforting on a rainy night.
There was still a lot of tables open (lucky us). The happy hour beverage menu was quite simple, nothing too extravagant and it was all around $4-6. The food here was what caught us by surprised. I honestly wasn't expecting much but each plate we ordered totally delivered. Also, service was on point and friendly.
We started off with the Curry Roti which came with Mussaman curry, it was delicious. The curry was slightly sweet and gave a bit of heat. Next was the Curry Puff, also excellent choice, the puff pastry was perfect and flaked off just how it was suppose to. At this point, I was looking forward to the noodle and rice dish we ordered. It all came out in a timely manner and tasted like it was made with love (yea, sounded quite cheesy there). The Curry Fried Rice was nice, I loved the basil in there which made it very flavorful and fragrant. The Drunken Noodles was a one of a kind, made with udon, the dish was slightly spicy and the intensity builds as you keep eating, also quite addicting.
The night was good. We ordered a couple of more drinks and the wait staff didn't bother us. I believe happy hour ends at 8pm but with good food, company, and drinks the night seemed endless. Definitely a hole in the wall. I plan on revisiting some time soon.
Pros: Curries were good (panang and peanut), servings were a good size, takeout was relatively quick.
Cons: Chicken was often dry and rubbery, tom yum soup was underwhelming (two shrimp, one and half mushrooms, and nothing else in the whole soup!) and pretty expensive for thai in Brooklyn,
