I came for lunch on a weekday and were the only people in the restaurant. I was a little concerned initially, but I had no reason to be. This is a solid establishment with tasty food that is moderately priced. You do get good quality and portions. It's a large bright restaurant and the service was superb. Dishes came out at appropriate intervals and they took away dirty plates and checked in on us regularly but not intrusively.
1. Bread: the bread was good but the dipping sauce was very good. I think it's a tomato and olive oil based one.
2. Mushroom appetizer: this was soooo good, but I love mushrooms. These were thinly sliced nicely flavored ones. The texture is really nice.
3. Mussels: this is a huge pan that came out. The mussels were large and fresh. They were definitely not over-cooked. One of the better ones I've had.
4. Sirloin steak: I got mine done medium, and felt that it was fine. It was actually a bit tough despite the center being red. Not sure why. Perhaps the slab was cooked too quickly for the thickness of the steak? I can only conjecture. But it was a large piece. The veggies on the side were OK.
5. Mushroom risotto: my friend loved this, but I didn't get to try it.
6. Ravioli: my other friend tried this and said that it was good but not amazing.
7. Tiramisu: very good! Among the better ones I've had. It's pretty sweet but the cream is definitely good.
I think the quality here is high for the pricing. Definitely worth a trip!

Bottega is the most recent restaurant to open in a space that has overseen an unusually high turnover in the past few years. The menu boasts a reasonable range of Italian dishes, but is overall very similar to other classic neighborhood joints such as Meditteraneo.
The best dish from my experience in the pan seared swordfish with balsamic reduction and spinach risotto. The drizzled sauce complements the lightly seasoned fillet perfectly and the risotto makes a decent replacement of the typical vegetable side! Aside from that, the linguini al-vongole and the rigatoni di bologna are decent choices, the duck dishes are not done particularly well.
Other notables are the friendly service and the large patio that however has an unsightly view of the 2nd Ave. subways construction.
Overall I would probably visit again on account of the seafood, which was the specialty of the previous occupants anyways.
I've passed over this place many a times, never again. I had a "romantic" dinner with a gal pal. The beet salad was presented as though it was a caprese (not bad, just unexpected). The risotto with truffled mushrooms was perfect for sharing. I was debating between the millefoglie and chocolate souffle for dessert and decided against the souffle when I was told that it would be ready in 4-5 mins (???). The millefoglie with fresh berries was so worth the calories!
Any restaurant where the waiter runs 3 blocks to get a credit card back to you holds a dear place in my heart.
Bottega is an upper eastside restaurant that has a real feel of a nice neighborhood spot. The atmosphere is very pleasant with a large, comfortable setting and an active bar along with large open outdoor seating. The restaurant has excellent delicious appetizer selections that we enjoyed along with moderately priced quality wines. We will visit this restaurant again in the near future.
