  1. WARNING: For those of you who are use to eating 2 bagels like me, I would start with one first and then see if you are still hungry because these bagels are huge and REALLY GOOD. Nice people too 🙂

  2. Upon receiving an enthusiastic recommendation from my cousin, I headed over to Boxcar with her on a Saturday morning to see for myself just what it was about their bagels that made her fall in love. When we arrived, there was a customer in front of us, ordering what seemed to be a rather complicated sandwich. Regardless, the man at the counter didn't miss a beat, and promptly sent her request to the kitchen. Up next, I was in the mood for a whole wheat bagel with egg whites, and when I asked him if Boxcar served egg whites, a coworker politely replied that they did. My cousin ordered one of her favorites – an everything bagel with vegetable cream cheese. We paid for our breakfast, and our food was out in a reasonable time (it didn't take forever, nor was it done so quickly that we were suspicious of the kitchen's cooking practice).

There isn't much seating room; in fact, there was only a single, small table for two available when our bagels were ready. We didn't mind though, and I'm sure that the majority of Boxcar's customers don't mind either. The environment is tailored to an "in and out" kind of process, and the business doesn't pretend to operate otherwise. My cousin and I took our bagels (which were very neatly wrapped, by the way), and drove to a nearby café to enjoy them with a cup of coffee.

As I unpackaged my breakfast, I quickly discovered that the bagels don't just look massive – they ARE massive. I'm accustomed to bigger, fluffy bagels, so this pleased me, although I acknowledge that others may prefer smaller portion sizes. Boxcar's bagels taste just like bagels should, with enough flavor to hold their own, but simultaneously enriched by whatever topping selected. The eggs, like the whole wheat bagel, were fluffy and fresh, and they had a subtle buttery taste. I don't usually like the taste of butter, but in this case, it added to the overall experience.

If you're looking for a place to sit down and enjoy your meal, Boxcar Bagel & Deli isn't for you. And like I mentioned earlier, it doesn't want to be. But if you're interested in great food and customer service, bring a friend and some cash, order a delicious breakfast, and relax at a park or café where you'll be able to savor each bite.

  3. Gigantic bagels, try the salt! Cash only. Lots of bagel sandwich choices for breakfast and lunch. Delicious by the dozen. These things are massive. Couple of small tables inside. Convenient parking to get in and out. Give it a try if you haven't already.

  4. Delicious, affordable, and friendly service! It's a family owned place that is the answer to my quest – an inexpensive lox and cream cheese bagel! One would think this an easy task in New Jersey- but it proved to be a challenge! My stomach is thanking me for coming here!
