  1. An effective Arby's commercial got us in the mood for a Reuben, but we knew better than to go to Arby's for it. My Newark Native GF started to reminisce over Bragman's. It had been a few years since she had been there and she says little has changed.

There was a steady line at 10am on a Saturday, but nothing too bad. The smell of this place is euphoric. The menu can be intimidating, mostly because you're tempted to order everything, partly because there are so many variations and special sandwiches with their very own special names, all written by hand on dingy, white paper plates plastered on the wall behind the counter! You can also create your own paradise, so have no fear! The decision-making process was further complicated when you watched them pull out the hot meats to slice fresh per order. I stand there, salivating, wondering how I could possibly consume all that I wish to order.

I finally settled for the Jack Special, which had hot pastrami, chopped liver, and coleslaw. The chopped liver was slightly sweet for my taste, but still good. Everything else was pretty close to perfection. It was a sloppy meal with overflowing meat and juices running down my hands. I licked and sucked everything back up. I was beyond full after the first half, but proceeded with the second half, in true glutton form. Even in full button-popping-belly mode, I still craved for more.

I've been back several times since then and have tried various specialty sandwiches, as well as the basics. I've never once been disappointed, but I have to say, the traditional pastrami Reuben has to be my all-time fave! They make their own Russian dressing here.

    ADDICTIVE!

  2. This place is totally in a less than ideal location. Definitely order and take your food to go. Excellent sandwich and good service, but the ambiance was not relaxing or conducive to an enjoyable experience. Excellent pastrami sandwich, terrible vibe. Also, not the place to bring a baby.

  3. Let's get to it! Bragman's is a no frills deli/sandwich shop in the hood. And that no frills feel is what gives it personality. Today was my first time at Bragman's and i was beyond happy with the results. I ordered a Ruth Special and added swiss cheese. So it's hot pastrami, Turkey, Cole Slaw, and Russian Dressing on rye (pechters rye! = pts). The staff is friendly and the gentleman at the counter offered people a taste of the meat as he cut it fresh for their sandwiches. The pastrami melted in my mouth. Fatty and flavorful in the best ways possible. Also got a half sour pickle. Super fresh as well. I will be back and if you are anywhere near here give it a try. I'll be back. ENJOY!!

  4. Best of the best right off of I78.  Lock your doors and pick up one or 5 Charlie Specials.  With pastrami and corned beef piled on rye this is the best way to start your afternoon.

Best pastrami I have ever had.
