Bell boulevard is filled with plenty of bars, but Dempsey's will alway have a special place in my heart. The wait staff and bartenders just make me feel like I'm home.
Food wise they're alway doing some sort of special- $15 steak, 50¢ wings, $1 tacos ext.. The wings are solid; classic bar wings. The tacos on the other hand were dry, and just not very good at all.
The prices are reasonable, the food is good, but the staff wins me over.
There are a few times when I travel to Bayside, Queens. There are a few places worth the treck and this is one of them. This would my first visit and I had a great time. I came on a Friday night and they had a dj. The music was a mix of freestyle, hip hop reggaeton and pop. I was loving it. We hadn't had dinner so we opted to sit down and try their food. The host was super friendly. Everyone was super friendly. The waiter was awesome and accomodating. You know they care for their patrons. What a great establishment. For dinner we ordered a Brian Dempsey burger with bacon and a grilled cheese stacker. The food was great. The fries could be crispier, but overall good. The drinks were good. It kept the party going plus the music. I had a great time. Note: they do have daily specials. It was a nice and chill bar/restaurant. I will be returning.
Brian Dempsey's has to be the absolute worst establishment I've been to on Bell blvd. I came in at 3:30 and ordered two drinks with my friend, and the bartender was rude as hell. How does she expect to get any tips with and attitude. I set my drink down to step out and make a phone call, for my ride back, which took 5 minutes. Then, when trying to come back in, the bouncer said all exits were final. I exclaimed that my drink was untouched and I wanted to finish it; I paid for it after all. He looked in for a sec, and said no drink here buddy, barback must have tossed it. I didn't even take a single sip! What a waste of $15. I will never EVER come back here. No barback in their right mind would toss an untouched drink. The straw cover was still on it. There's better places to spend your money, and Brian Dempsey's is at the bottom of that list.
Sigh..I don't think I'll come back. I really don't. It's not because the beer selection is poor (it's not the best), and it's not because the wings aren't good (25cents on Sunday but waaaay too dry and over cooked); it's because of the extremely poor service.
I get it, it's Sunday afternoon and you have a bunch of patrons waiting on beers and food, but I'm fairly certain there were only two waitresses/servers + the manager/owner(?). Now the size of the place (it's cozy) may make that the perfect number of servers, but awful communication left me and my party waiting way too long whether it was for water, for beer or for the check.
Having to ask an average of 3-4 times for everything, and then giving up when you realize you won't ever get one of your items will always leave a bad taste in your mouth. 25 cent wings are great and all and if you like Coor's Light (I don't know what's wrong with you if you do), this may be the place for you on Sunday. But even those deals can't make up for the experience.
The buffalo wings were good, but the BBQ sauce wasn't at all.
The one great thing about Brian Dempsey's is that they have Traveler's Pumpkin, which I have had trouble finding. If you like craft beers and the seasonal pumpkin spice, you should definitely get a Traveler's. I promise that you won't regret it.
Maybe I'll try again at some point, but it's pretty safe to say that my Sunday's and my Mets games (LETS GO METS!) will be spent a block away at Safari Beach Club.
I didn't think a dive bar could be so bad. I went in on a Thursday night with some friends and really wanted to just walk right out. But one of them made a request at the DJ, so we stayed for a drink. The place was so loud that we could barely hear each other talk. The owner kept telling the DJ to make it even louder. I ordered the grapefruit shandy off of their tap list and boy was it watered down. Not worth it for $8, or even $2. Waitress was pretty quick with our orders but not so friendly.
Been coming do Dempsey's for many years and it's like the bar that time forgot. It's the same now as 15 years ago. The cold is decent, the drinks are reasonably priced, and the jukebox has a load of randomness on it. Many weekends feature live music and an older crowd for the early part of the night. It's a Bell Blvd institution for a reason.
$5 burgers every Monday? I approve. But you won't be thrilled about their $12 mixed drinks. They only serve domestic beer, which is quite a deal-breaker given that almost every other bar on the Bell Blvd strip has a craft beer selection. Additionally, service has been terrible every time I've visited. One time, our waitress was too busy hanging out with her friends a few tables away for most of our stay. Another time, the bartender had a rude mouth with everyone who talked to her. Sorry, not coming back.
Been here numerous times since I was younger. The bar is great on a Saturday night, playing 90s music which I love. I think as im getting older im moving away from thd bar scene but this place is great.
