Broadway Cafe

“Sure not many people eat in the seating area, but that makes it a great place to eat your lunch alone and read a book in peace.”

“The salad bar is the cheapest in the area, the service is quick, and the ladies behind the counter are magical.”

“The floors on both levels are very well-worn, but the more important aspect was the cleanliness – and related to that, I watched one of the workers carefully clean the meat (?)”

  1. I was walking by this place yesterday, not realizing I was hungry until I looked inside and saw the hot food bar (it's pathetic how much I love that type of food).  Anyway; it was about 5:15 p.m. and it turns out that they close at 6:30 p.m. & they remove the food at about 5:45 p.m. – so the selection wasn't real extensive, but it was certainly sufficient.  Also, it all looked clean and fresh.  The price was the usual costly $7.99/pound and everything tasted good.

The woman at the cash register was *very* pleasant, plus she readily gave me tap water when I requested it (instead of what I've encountered at many deli food bar places, where they either refuse to give tap water or else they get visibly annoyed about it).

I had lots of time to kill before attending an event, so I sat in their upstairs seating area while eating.  It's a decent size and it overlooks the first floor.  The floors on both levels are very well-worn, but the more important aspect was the cleanliness – and related to that, I watched one of the workers carefully clean the meat (?)-cutting machine.  Also, he wore gloves while cutting some food items before that.

  2. This place is okay, but could be far better.  A few other cafes (read: much better ones) in the area have it beat in terms of atmosphere, food, and service.  There was some serious turnover over the last year as then all Korean staff switched to an all Hispanic one, with a whole new lackadaisical attitude.

The coffee served here is nice, but it doesn't beat the self-serve that is available in the other establishments around the block. The service is by far the best aspect of the place, with people who are willing to help at all times and answer questions.  Plus they don't have a minimum for credit card charges and there is free water in the dining area above (great for the hot summer time!).

  3. I ordered my ramen with beef for $6.45 and the guy – the ONLY – guy behind the counter decides to go to the deli and make sandwiches for two other people waiting.

What did I do?!  I walked out!  I'm sorry, I know for SURE I can get off the chain ramen in Chinatown and well…this place can't compete.

Try paying attention to ALL of your customers next time.

  4. I'm usually here for iced coffee in the morning on my way to work when Eataly is packed.  Their coffee is okay .. better than K-cups coffee at my office.  Occasionally I would get a breakfast sandwich.  Nothing to rave about really.  It's easy, fast, good service, and convenient.  That's what I want in the morning during rush hours.

  5. It's a korean deli, which means they have bibimbap. Hooray! There's 7 different types of vegetables with beef and an egg on top of rice. The portion is way too big to eat in one sitting, and yet I still do… :/ Delicious

Lunch orders: beef bibimbap. 2 packs of 6 piece sushi rolls: salmon and tuna (warmed in the microwave 15 seconds to achieve body temperature).

  6. So I've ordered from this place before and it was fine, so I feel bad giving it one star…

I ordered a wine, cheese & fruit plate for a client meeting today on Seamless. The order came on time, was presented nicely, and came with more than enough napkins and utensils. The cheese came on a separate platter, cut up nicely and each piece had a piece of fruit on top with a toothpick holding it in place. I expected the fruit and cheese to be separate. Whatever, it looked nice, I guess!

The kicker was when I opened the cracker plate and it was mostly SALTINES!!! Like, WTH, what place serves saltines as part of a cheese and cracker platter??? Broadway Cafe does apparently!  It said assorted crackers, but Saltines were the last thing I expected. There were a few little pita crackers in the middle, but mostly all Saltines!  I've put together much nicer spreads myself with a few boxes of Trader Joes crackers!

This was for a client meeting, so I was a little embarrassed to serve it, but didn't have time to grab anything else

To top it off, the cost was $8/person…kinda pricey for saltines!

If you're serving PBR's and Natty Light to your team and feel like getting an expensive cheese plate to fit the theme, by all means order from Broadway Cafe. If you're trying to impress a client, you're better off sending someone out for fries & Big Macs!

  7. Not bad, not great.  Totally what you would expect from a cafe you just popped in on to grab a bite before going to work.  I was impressed that the salad bar was out so early in the morning (around 9 o'clock) and that all the breakfast sandwiches were made to order.  I just got a bowl of fruit and an english muffin and was pleased with both.  Sometimes you just want a passable place with passable food so you can pass on through and be on your merry way.  Broadway Cafe is your place then.  Chances are you won't be disappointed, but you won't be thrilled either.
