  1. Wait staff here is weird. A lot of items on the menu were not available. The first time i went to this establishment it was for take out. So it was very simple service and too the point. they were courteous and I was pleased.

Second time i went, we stayed in the restaurant and i don't think I would come back again even though those wings are banging! The rest of the food honestly wasn't memorable and we had several options to choose from on our

So BESO, next time have all the food that you state on the menu, especially when you you are serving some of your first guests for the night, and train the wait staff to be a little more people friendly or people approachable. Its not that they were not friendly it was just an awkward encounter.

  2. I'd heard of this restaurant for a long time, but never had a chance to stop by. I came in on a Sunday with my brother and his fiance for brunch. I was happy to learn that they did offer an unlimited mimosa option. That's music to a bruncher's ears.

Our waitress was pretty awesome, friendly and attentive. She certainly helped in gaining bonus points. The food was ok, nothing extraordinaire.  We actually almost ordered second meals as the portions didn't quite hit the spot on that hungry Sunday morning.

I think it's worth visiting this restaurant if you are in the area. I'd like to try something else on the menu and possibly return for dinner.

  3. Brunch: it was A Sunday around 12, no wait for a table maybe 5/6 seated tables, two servers so we went for it. We opted to sit in the patio area which was nice. Our server took a bit long to get to is initially but he was nice, chatted us up a little. Our food came out quickly (which we expected) and it was good. We ordered chicken and red velvet waffle and shrimp and grits. I loved the shrimp and grits perfectly made. I think there were 6 large shrimp, perfectly seasoned with a hint of spice and sautéed peppers and onions. The consistency of the grits were smooth and buttery and you could tell those were seasoned as well. What I did not care for were the red velvet waffles and chicken. The waffles had the consistency of a cake not a Belgian waffle. I know the batter has to be different for the red velvet aspect but it was just a fail for me and the fried chicken was very blahhh. Not much flavor or actual meat on the bone (well the one piece that I swiped) I was very glad I had not ordered the red velvet waffle and chicken I would've been very disappointed.

Stay tuned when I try them for dinner!

  4. Minus points for the having the appetizer section called "tapas." Guacamole is not a tapa. Dominican Beef Sliders are not tapas. Neither is sweet corn and black bean salsa. Perhaps spicy chorizo meatballs and papas braves might be tapas, but this does not a tapas section eat.

Beyond nomenclature, Beso's loud chairs and brightly colored lamps present a restaurant trying to be more upscale than it should. We stopped in for a couple of drinks and those small plates before dinner elsewhere, although we wound up eating so much that dinner was a challenge later.

The service was prompt and warm, both from the bar we sat next to our hostess. We beat what I assume is a dinner crunch, so we were able to snack on the spicy wings, guacamole and meatballs in relative quiet.

The cocktails and sangria were nice if not spectacular, which is how I'd describe this place is general. Perfectly fine for stop in, but no real point in creating an evening around it.

  5. Cool temperatures on a Saturday night in Bedstuy encouraged us to check out Beso. The Yelp reviews weren't speaking to me but we didn't have the patience to find the place we were actually interested in. Beso it was. My significant other ordered some sort of Bourbon mojito or something he enjoyed and wanted to order another but opted not to as it got sort of weird in there w the oldheads belting out lyrics to Jodeci as they reminisced .. We were seated toward the back of the restaurant where a window into the kitchen area allowed us to eyeball the tight conditions in which our food was being prepared. Hubby just ordered a side of tortilla chips and salsa. I had the guava shrimp w brown rice and plantain. Very good sauce but the rice tasted funny the coconut they added to it, maybe in the DR this would work but the canned coconut milk was not working for my pallet. All in all, OK place to be if you wanna listen to some oldies and enjoy strong drink.

  6. "Can't wait to return"

I just moved to the neighborhood and was in search for a local watering hole. I was pleasantly surprised with the service (Richard is a great bartender) and the people that were there. I have a 2+ hour chat with one of the people from the area.

The restaurant has a very bright and colorful decor that is very inviting. The food was AMAZING. I had the dominican sliders and the papas braves. The stewed beef and slaw was prepared perfectly. Actually, I am craving those sliders as I type this review. The only thing is that you only get two sliders – most places give you three sliders per order.

Most of the drinks were very delicious and I cant wait to try out some more. This place definitely is waterhole approved. Plus, I hear the brunch is pretty amazing here.

  7. I love the food here, the salads especially. I the space is small but cute and still very comfortable. I find myself just stopping by and picking something up if I'm in the area. I would like to see bigger portions but aside from that this place is great.

  8. I don't normally come out to this area in Brooklyn but this restaurant and bar is quite delightful. My friend works in a school kind of nearby and I had a random day off in the summer so it happened. Margaritas, Sangria, and wine are all 2 for 1s during happy hour. I recommend the wine because the margaritas are both tiny and a little on the sweeter side versus the alcoholic side (how I like it). I switched to Chardonnay after I realized the miss-hap and that I pretty much downed my margs like sugar candy water without feeling anything. They have a really nice backyard area with bright blue walls, interesting metal design decorations, and a ton of plants. Which, fair warning spawn an awful lot of mosquitos. Food was pretty quality. They also have a discounted tapas menu during happy hour. We went with the papas bravas because who doesn't love potatoes covered with cheesy sour cream things?! The Guacamole – which is served with crab meat and plantain chips. Not entirely sure if the crap meat is fresh or canned but it tasted more towards the fresh side to me. I really like this combination and for the price it can't be beat. Lastly, we ordered the crab fritters served with pico de gallo. I don't remember those standing out as much. But the happy hour deal is a trio of appetizers for I think under $15. Not bad. They also do a really affordable brunch on weekends for $15 unlimited mimosas.

Only major complaints: Service was kind of slow. There were points where I thought our waitress totally forgot we were sitting outside, portions are fairly small and wouldn't be worth it at normal price outside of happy hour, drinks were watered down if you weren't drinking wine. A few kinks but overall a nice relaxing place worth checking out.
