  1. I love my sandwich that I got there recently during the "hurricane of 2011."  They were one of the few places open in the Carroll Gardens.  They ran out of rolls of bread and offered me an option to have my sandwich in a bagel form.  Sold!  I decided to get #15 sandwich (which is also available in a wrap or hero form).  I ordered a ham w/sundried tomatoes, brie, oil and vinegar, which was just completely satisfying.  Being only $8.50 for this large bagel-wish.  The components were fresh ham and rich creamy brie, topped with sweet tomatoes doused in oils.  I would say this was memorable!  It was then washed down with a hot tea with milk.  There is about 10 seats, maybe 5 or 6 tables, so get there early or expect to wait to get in.  I mean the lines are not long, just a 7 minute wait for me when I went in, and it was after the trains/buses were all cancelled, so I didn't mind waiting at all.  I found myself walking on Court Street with my fiancee and smell the wafting aroma of sweet heavenly freshly baked bread in their down stairs basement rising towards street level hypnotizing us to visit.

  2. I took one look at BBC's enormous bagels and pretty much wrote them off immediately. I'm a purist: I like my bagels boiled and these are not. I was fearing the worst: a glorified roll with a hole in the middle.

Wrong!!! I don't know how they do it, but the whole grain everything (my "usual") had all the good aspects of a bagel (get it toasted. I love lots of everything on my bagel and there was just the right amount of everything on this one) and none of the bad (somehow I managed to eat the entire thing without feeling like I just dropped a carb bomb in my gut). They have all kinds of cream cheeses and tofu cream cheeses (I like olive). Service was really nice, despite the fact that there was a line out the door. Coffee could have been better, but that's my only gripe and I'm notoriously hard to please in that regard. I usually give up all hope if it's not a top notch coffeehouse anyway. The bagels (and tempting breads/muffins) are all you need concentrate on anyway.

  3. I love all their bread and bagels. This is sooo my go to spot for bread. All types. I always drop by whenever I'm in BK. Tip – when you order flavored cream cheese over regular cream cheese, you save 50 cents. Not sure why flavored would be cheaper but I say it's just as good so go for it!

  4. This place confuses me, and overall, I can't really figure out what's wrong.

I do enjoy the different style of "bread" in bagel form, it's unique, but it's not a bagel. Coffee has always been good, hot or iced.

Service varies, and often I'm given a wrong order, either it's translated wrong to the guy making it, or it's written down wrong. Don't really care, as the bagels all taste the same, but it's worth noting.

  5. So a vendor just dropped off a couple bags of bagels to the office.  Said "best bagels in Brooklyn!" Eh.  I'm going to have to disagree with that statement.

The bagels are really bread-y.  They don't even taste like bagels to me.  I mean, they don't even have that slightly hardened shell that leads way to a chewy center.  These 'bagels' were more like rolls or even a bialy.   Hey, if that's your thing – then that's cool, do you!  But I was disappointed w/ these 'bagels.'

I did get pumped when someone said there was a 'french toast bagel' in the bag.  My excitement didn't last long though.  This not your typical French toast bagel.  I was expecting a true bagel with cinnamon sugar baked in…not a flattened roll w/ a swirl of cinnamon goo running through it.  Eh.
