From the outside, this place looks like any typical Irish dive bar. But once inside, it's actually quite nice. They have a great draft beer selection. They serve food (things like lobster ravioli and pumpkin ravioli). It's reasonably clean. And the bartender's actually nice.
Sure, they have some of the standard dive bar staples, like darts, sports on the TVs, and American flags galore, but none of those are bad things.
Was heading out with coworkers to Greenwood park when we discovered it was closed to the public. A private party due a party for Etsy members. Psssh…… a party for a community of people who belong to a website, how lame!
Some of my coworkers said we should head to Brooklyn Pub. We started walking over while I'm thinking, what dump am I being brought to? I step in and realize, I've been in this dump and it's not a dump at all. It's a fucking awesome ass bar! Score! I came here frequently when my friend lived around the block, back in the day. After huge house parties (Those were the days) I'd come here for after hours. I suppose I was…….. having too much fun…… to remember the name.
This place is great for a numerous amount of reasons. The people who work here, kick ass. They are good people and literally, if you mess around they'll kick your ass. The drink prices are unheard of in trendy locations of Brooklyn any more. The food is fantastic bar food also at a price that can't be beat. They have televisions, playing your favorite sports team. If your a Mets/Jets fan like me, you may want to look the other way.
In the end this is a great local bar, with inexpensive options and caters to awesome experiences on the late night or for happy hour.
I came here recently to watch the World Cup USA v Portugal game and unsurprisingly the bar was packed. At the start of the game, the bar was not full to capacity and there was actually some walking room around, but it became evident that people who could not get into Greenwood Park, which is a block away, ended up venturing here instead. The bar isn't huge, but there are a few tables that can seat 4 people inside. Also there are LOTS of LCD screens attached to the walls. Even though the bar was getting more and more full during the World Cup match, my ability to watch the game was not in any way blocked because I had full view of a TV everywhere I turned. It seems this would be an awesome place to catch a football game too because of all the screens made available. The bar also serves food, but that was one thing I didn't get to try.
You can't deny good food and Brooklyn Pub has some pretty good food. The wings are impressive (don't know if I'd say best wings ever like they do, but they are really good). They make straightforward food with good flavor. And if you're nearby they deliver really fast…took about 15 minutes! Food was really hot and fresh upon delivery. The meatball sliders were decent, the mac and cheese fried balls were really good and the jalapeño poppers were a little too salty but overall I'd order from here again and strongly recommend you give brooklyn pub a try.
Bartender tonight was spectacular. Our table was a bit rocky and we didn't mention it and he came over immediately to fix it for us…really attentive and considerate. We had the ribs special and they were fall off the bone. Also got the corn which was cooked perfectly.
They are a jets bar (giants fan) but did a good job with it, and the decor was so local slope Brooklyn. You can't ask for a better local neighborhood spot. I brought my mom there tonight and she loved it.
Stopped in here early in the night for a few drinks while waiting for Giuseppina's across the street to open. Pleasantly surprised. Very good vibe here – great low-key, local pub.
Good beer selection. Didn't try the food since I was going for pizza, but the menu selection looked promising.
Bartender was super nice. Oh and I loved the music they played here – Incubus, Stone Temple Pilots, APC – awesome stuff.
I'd totally come back to hang out here!
Let's run down the checklist of the things you're looking for in a neighborhood bar.
[x] Cheap beer.
[x] Football. Hockey. Sports. With sound.
[x] Big tv's.
[x] Kickin' air conditioning.
[x] Nice bartenders.
[x] The ability to not only not laugh at me, but give me a hearty plate full of these things, when I order a plate of celery, carrots and ranch dressing.

Brooklyn Pub has all these things, and is thriving in the apparently huge new mecca of bars and restaurants that is 20th Street and 6th Ave. (which is near not a hot damn thing). And it's a great place for the overflow crowd when Toby's is (as it almost always is) overflowingly busy.
* – Every bar should have one of those. Why hasn't Eddie Murphy gotten on that yet?
