3.5 stars for a good breakfast/brunch place that always leaves you satisfied.
Brownstone has an additional location in Jersey City (I think this is the one that was featured on Diners and Drive ins). If coming on the weekend be prepared to wait for some time because it gets super busy after 9:30am. Also they valet! Woo hoo!
Service is always pleasant every time I go. I always order the Pancake Combo because it comes with a little bit of everything (pancakes, eggs, bacon, and sausage). The entire breakfast itself is good. Not great, not bad, just simply good. I've never had an omelette from there but from what I've seen they're huge!
It's a good place to go if you don't want the usual diner breakfast. Not the greatest breakfast on the planet but one of the better options.
I had to take the time to do an updated review on this restaurant. Over the course of the last year and a half I have been here at least half a dozen times.
The specials are always FABULOUS, I highly recommend ordering one!!! The service is also phenomenal.
The reason for my updated review is that whenever I come in here with my daughter, who is now only 18 months, everyone is overly nice to her. She loves coming here, the servers always bring her fruit, and interact with her. Obviously since she is always SO HAPPY here this makes my dining experience so much more pleasant then it would be anywhere else. I will be definitely dining here again in the future.
When I first tried Brownstone Pancake Factory, I was obsessed! I even revisited with my coworkers, family, and friends–they all loved it too.
Unfortunately, it started going go hill. Even my friends and family have felt the same. Their food randomly got worse. And even though I thought it wasn't even possible to make an omelette too fluffy… Brownstone does exactly that. I know that sounds insane, but I'm not the only one that feels that way! It completely takes away from the flavors of the omelette– all you taste is pure egg. My Bf and I have huge appetites, but the omelette managed to make us feel disgustingly stuffed because of the fluffiness.
I still stick to my word to GET THE CURLY FRIES! I bet they're just frozen fries from a bag.. But they're still so good and much better than their homes fries.
A major plus is that Brownstone is similar to a diner in the sense that they're open until 10pm and serve breakfast all day. And I'm always a sucker for having breakfast for dinner!
I'd say if you're looking for brunch on Saturday or Sunday, just skip coming here because the food isn't worth the wait. However, if you're able to come during a non-peak hour I'd recommend you check it out because I really used to loveeee it. Maybe you'll get lucky!
Tried the Lox Benedict, it was good! But Idk what I was expecting, maybe a little more flavor. I had to bring the star down because the Valet really blows. This one guy is too damn sassy and why should I valet when I can park and walk inside for less the time it takes to hand my keys to some dude. Maybe on busy days I understand Valet but not when there are about 10 people inside.
I'm torn between three and four stars for brownstone to be completely honest. I've been here many times, and on weekends they have a valet service which is hit or miss. Sometimes when it's not that busy I wouldn't mind parking my own car it just seems quicker and easier, but other times the place does get packed so it does help.
I've ordered a few things here from just eggs and toast, chicken and waffles, I believe it was called a muscle maker omelette, French toast and I'm sure there's more. The food over all is good, definitely better than any ihop or diner around.
The chicken and waffles wasn't my favorite only because I'm not a fan of my chicken already doused in syrup and a lot of the times I receive my waffle cold.
The fresh toast combo has to have been my favorite item I've had from there, it was perfectly cooked and not overly sweet, but was sweet enough I didn't even need syrup.
The cleanliness has most of the time been my issue. I've come in and the table is still sticky with syrup and there are no napkins provided on the table. I waste my one lonely napkin that my silverware is wrapped in just cleaning up.
The service is just ok, no one is very friendly but they can be efficient. There are times I've only seen my server once at the beginning and then only again to give us the check.
I understand they are very busy, but I need a clean table to eat on at very minimum.
I've been here several times and I haven't been disappointed.
I've had the pancake "wrap" extremely delicious but super filling. Today, I had their cinammon raisin French toast. It was soft and sweet all without the need of syrup, although I did add some because who has FT without extra butter and syrup? I asked for two eggs on the side and an English muffin. All very standard, all good. My service was quick, so no complaints there.
Con: I really hate the valet parking since it causes some massive river road traffic and you're not allowed to get in your car even though it's five feet away from you? The point of valet is that customers don't wait for service but you cause massive entrance and road problems and we can't leave as quickly as we want. You either take the cars to an additional lot Brown or allow us to park at our own expense.
In any case, this is a solid breakfast/brunch place.
The Brownstone never disappoints.
Had some amazing eggs and silver dollar pancakes. The breakfast here is awesome and portions are generous.
The Brownstone Burger was excellent. Cooked to perfection and enough for two people to share.
Flatbreads looks amazing even thought I didn't try them our other guest highly enjoyed them.
I love this place and have never had a bad experience here or Jersey City.
Thank you Brownstone for always being consistent and enjoyable.
When I discovered that Brownstone Pancake Factory opened a second location in NJ, I knew instantly that my boyfriend & I just had to visit it and try it out.
The vibe at this Brownstone Pancake Factory is definitely different from the original one in Jersey City, NJ. The one in Jersey City, feels more homey and family friendly. The one in Edgewater feels more modern and chic. The Edgewater location does have a parking lot, but it's tight and also valet unlike the one in Jersey City.
We were seated immediately when we arrived and was given a list of brunch specials and their standard menu. We both decided to order from the Brunch Specials.
We started off with two beverages – iced tea and iced coffee to accompany our brunch. The brunch specials menu includes soup of the day. I got the Chicken orzo soup and the boyfriend got the French onion soup. The chicken orzo soup tasted and felt very healthy, warm, and perfect for a chilly day. My boyfriend has been on a French onion soup binge, so when he saw it on the menu he ordered it right away. The French onion soup was perfect! The cheese was perfectly broiled and gooey and the soup was full of flavor and rich!
Brownstone's Mini Waffles Eggs Benedict – I opted for this because it sounded interesting . It was plated very beautifully and extremely adorable. I almost didn't want to eat it. Two of the mini waffles were topped off with Canadian bacon and a poached egg drizzled with Hollandaise sauce and one mini waffle topped with fresh strawberries and blueberries.
I've never really had a savory waffle before so this was a different experience. The mini eggs Benedict waffle was mediocre. I think I prefer my eggs Benedict on an English muffin – the classical way. I actually liked the mini waffle with fresh strawberries and blueberries because it was fresh and lightly sweet.
Jersey Chicken & Pancakes – My boyfriend opted for this dish which is buttermilk pancakes baked with bacon and cheddar and topped off with crispy fried chicken tenders drizzled with sour cream and confectionery sugar. His dish looked very filling and delicious. Unfortunately, he wasn't a fan of this dish because he's not a fan of Chicken & Waffles. I tried his dish and the crispy fried chicken tenders were really crispy, fried, and has good flavor. Adding bacon and cheddar to the pancakes was a neat idea.
Overall, I liked the Brownstone Pancake Factory in Edgewater. It's very clean, trendy, new and relaxing to dine here. It's completely different from the original Brownstone in Jersey City. My boyfriend prefers the original location just because it's closer and ample parking space and not valet. He also prefers the homey, diner vibe. The food was very different from the original Brownstone and I don't recall if they have these dishes on the menu in Jersey City. I would like to come back here again and maybe order a different dish to see how I feel about the food here.
