I am not going to be an elitist and take anything away from this place just cause they're a big chain. This restaurant does an incredible job of making a windowless restaurant in the heart of times square feel cozy, quiet, and welcoming! Hubby and I would never have even known that this place existed if we hadn't read about their free birthday pastas. Loved this place as a teenager growing up in so cal, so we signed up for the mailing/birthday list and then came in for our free pasta! HUGE servings (only made for 2-4 people). Though there are no windows, they somehow create this ambiance of winding rooms that make you feel a little bit like you're outside on a dark evening. Our favorites are the lasagna and the calamari. Great place to escape the hustle and bustle for a little break. Kid friendly. Hubby loves the complimentary bread basket!
Great location!!! An elevator attendant handed us a coupon which helped us choose this place for lunch. We ordered the warm spinach salad, the spicy pizza and a bottle of the reserve chianti. Our server Elizabeth was very sweet to explain the family style portions so we didn't over order and saved room for dessert. The sauce was really good on the pizza. The crust was a little tough and a little mushy. The flavors were good and we ate it all. We noticed that Elizabeth was also tending bar so was pretty busy but she helped us settle up so we could make our show. We finished with cannoli, and a single sized warm brownie with ice cream and coffee. Thanks for the friendly service and coupon.
On a blustery, snowy winter night, I was craving italian food bad. Being stuck at work til late on a Saturday night was not helping it. I looped 3 friends along to Buca to satisfy my craving.
Being that we wanted to sample like everything on the menu, we decided to do the Feed 4 for $40 special that they were having. It included a large order of garlic bread, a large salad and a pasta dish from their list. We also tacked on a small order of calamari, a small dish of mini meatballs and a pasta dish , something Rosa (the waiter recommended it.)
Food: The garlic bread was just OK. i would have wanted it to be more flavorful but it was kind of bland. We chose the mixed green salad and it was HUUUGGEE. Fully loaded with onions, olives, peppers and everything in between. We also got the linguine with clams in white wine sauce as part of the deal and that was GIMONGOUS (don't think that's a word). We scarfed that dish now and there was still so much remaining.
As for our add-ons, i really liked the calamari. It came with a spicy marinara sauce with pepper flakes. The rosa pasta that the waiter recommended was by far my favorite dish of the night. It was a mixture of marinara and alfredo sauce with chicken and broccoli SO GOOD. The meatballs were also tender and yummy.
By the end of dinner, we didn't finish the garlic bread, linguini and some of the rosa pasta. The waitress was impressed though. Overall, a very satisfying meal. It did take the food a while to come out so it would have been nice for them to give us bread to munch on, but my belly was still happy. Also, a word to the wise, they don't seat you unless your whole party is there so be on time for your reservation if you make one.
Being a lover of italian food I must say that I was extremely disappointed in this restaurant. This was my first time at a family style restaurant. The only great thing about this restaurant was the good customer service. The waiter was very attentive despite the numerous requests. The food on the other hand was extremely bland. I don't know who the chef is, or whether or not they even have taste buds but this food was not good. It tasted like food fit for the nursing home. I had fettucini alfredo, stuffed raviloi, and chicken in lemon sauce with capers. The ravioli sauce was watery, the chicken and sauce had not one bit of seasoning and it had a strange taste. The fettucini barely made the cut and was lacking seasoning. I had to add salt because it was so bland. When desert came, which was a cannoli, I was so unimpressed I didnt even bother to try. Would never come here again and although I came for a function Im glad I didnt have to come out of pocket for anything.
Prior to recieving a coupon for this restaturant I had never heard of the place before. I honestly only stopped at this restaurant because I recieved a coupon for a free pasta dish. I chose to redeem my offer by using their take out services but dining in was also a option.
This restaurant is located right in the same building as planet hollywood. Once you enter the building you take an elevator up to the restaurant. Since I chose take out I was directed to the bar area. This is where I met the most friendliest bartender ever. He was extremely polite and advised me that I didnt need to order anything else because the portion I was recieving was more than enough for one meal. He was just as helpful with everyone who entered his area. He was very honest and upfront about food options and portion sizes as well.
Unfortunately, not everyone was a pleasant as James the bartender. The person that brought my take out to me was courteous when serving me initially. However, when he went to retrieve the items to complete my order he seemed to forget about me. Of course James apologized for the person and helped meto resolve my issue.
Once I got home I saw that James was exact in his statemant about the portion sizing. My dish was more than enough for 2-3 meals. I have only tried the baked ziti but it was delicious with the right amount of cheesy deliciousness. I'd definitely return to try other dishes in the future and hopefully Im serviced by James or someone just as great.
5 Stars for an awesome happy hour! I was seeing a Broadway show that was literally next door…had 1.5 hours to kill, and needed a drink so I decided to give this place a shot. So glad I did! They have a nice, spacious bar area an great deals on food and drinks until 7pm. My friend and I had a couple of apps and I had a couple of drinks. I think our total was around $30…we were both stuffed and I was buzzed enough to sit through a play and actually enjoyed it.
If this place wasn't situated in the epicenter of hell aka Times Square, I would come here way more often. Next time I find myself in that neck of the woods around happy hour time I will gladly stop in.
Bartender was super nice and funny too, always a plus in my book!
Looking for a place in the hood? Def check it out, but I have dibs on a barstool!
We had reservations for 6:00 PM for a group of 6 and arrived early at 5:30 PM.
The maître d' told us that she would check us in but could not seat us "until closer to the reservation time." I told her okay and we waited.
Because it was relatively early before the dinner crowd arrived, the place was kind of empty. There were at least a dozen empty tables in plain sight, not counting any empty tables there may have been in the back areas that were not visible from the front of the restaurant.
At 6:05 PM, I asked her what our seating status was and it was not until I asked that she said "oh, yeah.. we can seat you now." And then SHE TOOK US TO ONE OF THE TABLES THAT HAD BEEN EMPTY THE ENTIRE TIME!!!
This place is a JOKE.
It was late. We were hungry. It was Planet Hollywood or Buca di Beppo, and we selected the one we hadn't had before. I wish I'd gone Planet Hollywood.
The place was rather deserted when we arrived around 10 p.m. It's two floors from the street level. Planet Hollywood is below.
Pricing was about what I expected or a little higher for entrees.
My fork had food left on it. I sent it back.
My glass of wine also came with food on it. They replaced it promptly, but you have to wonder about the cleanliness standards of a place that gives you two dirty items and doesn't even think to comp the glass of wine, maybe, to smooth things over.
We split a pizza. It was good enough, but nothing overly delicious, and had a little too much seasoning for my liking.
Decorwise, it's like an Italian version of Applebees. I don't think I'll go back.
