After searching for some place nearby out near Floyd Bennett Field, Buckley's came up, even though it was a bit far out from it. Despite the gamble of going to a place in the middle of nowhere I think it paid off pretty well. Our group of 6 ended up sitting at the bar and they accommodated us by pushing the tables together. Our waitress was talkative and friendly but it seemed like a team effort-probably because of two large parties in the other rooms.
The food is bar food, nothing fancied up about it but the staples are good. I got their house burger with bacon and it was good, the horseradish I asked for on the side was definitely an eye opener. The gf got the grilled cheese but it was really sad looking so, our waitress took it back, of the menu, and got my girlfriend french onion soup and french fries instead.
I'm very surprised with the place here, it's a neighborhood place but welcoming to a big group of strangers.
We came here, with a number of friends for some after dinner drinks. The service was nice and quick. It was friendly. The drinks were made right/poured cold for the beers and the atmosphere is definitely that of an irish pub/restaurant. We didnt eat here so I cant comment on the rest, but the bar area had sufficient seating and was enjoyed.
came in for a private event on a weekend for lunch. the baby shower was hosted in the smaller room when you first walk into the restaurant. we had a 3 course seated meal and it was decent. the food wasn't spectacular but wasn't bad either. the room was good enough for about 40ish people and the servers were attentive and very nice.
this place has amazing bread, very friendly staff, and a nice environment , it doesn't get too loud which is a big plus, and anyone is welcome to dine there , I came here with my Russian family and we loved the irish cuisine. the meat is always juicy and the potatoes are flavorful, the portions are perfect and its never too loud or noisy.
I also love the party hall, great size and prices for a sweet sixteen or any other special occasion
I can't believe I lived in the nabe for 10 years as a wee immigrant and never once mustered the courage to visit, even with the family. Buckley's is an old-school Irish-American tavern for neighborhood folk, through and through.
Buckley's' might be a dying breed, but it will go out with dignity. Besides, in a neighborhood like Marine Park, places like this will hold out against the forces of gentrification and so on.
We were here purely by accident, so the visit was kind of serendipitous and nice. The girl manning the bar said "mooh-tsa-rell" when reading the menu and handed us a couple of Bronx Pale Ales (sweet, Buckley's is on top of their beer selection). A brunch menu was referenced, but we all tacitly agreed not to go that route. My $6 cheeseburger was generously portioned and juicy, while the steak fries were each the size of Shquille O'Neal's fingers (seriously, guys, the biggest fries I've ever seen). You may want to stop at a small order of the ff.
The decor was surprisingly modern–they remodeled in the last few years. You can park your butt to watch Sunday sports in the bar area with a pint or opt for the larger dining room nearby (inquire on your own; I have yet to experience that).
My youngest sister used to work here and she'd come home with stories that would curl your hair about stuff that goes on behind the scenes. Still, we'd come here once in a blue moon and couldn't really complain. Food's okay but I'm not exactly running back now am I?
Typical American bar house fare. Food was fresh and tasty, though uninspired. Huge pork chop with potato and carrots- enjoyed the meal. A bit pricey for what it is.
Great neighborhood place! I have been here for dinner and for a wedding and am always happy with the food and service. A+ all around!
