I've never had Argentinian food before, but boy am I glad that this was my first experience. If you are a carnivore and appreciate some good meat, then you have to go here.
I was at dinner with a group of 4 and we decided to get the Parrillada Buenos Aires. It says that it's only an order for one, but don't be fooled, it satisfied our table of 4. It had a combo of short ribs, skirt steak, sausage, blood sausage and grilled sweetbreads (which can be intestines from the throat, stomach, etc). Sounds like it could be gross, but it was surprisingly really good and creamy. That is all for around $50. The meat is just cooked so well and full of flavor. Not to mention that the chimichurri sauce that it comes with is some of the best that I've ever had and pairs so nicely with all the meats.
If you just order a few sides with that dish, you should be pretty satisfied from your meal! Do yourself a favor and also order a pitcher of sangria to wash everything down with.
My fiance had a craving for skirt steak and chimichurri sauce, which led us to Beunos Aires. The skirt steak wasn't very flavorful, aside from the grilled meat taste. The savior of the meal came in the form of a jar filled with the well known fragrant chimichurri sauce. I am not saying the skirt steak was bad on its own, it was just so much better with the chimichurri sauce that I ate every bite with a nice spoonful.
Their empanadas were flaky on the outside and hot and soft on the inside, good texture and not too doughy. However, the spicy beef empanada wasn't spicy, maybe they meant it was spiced with seasoning and not hot peppers. The spinach and cheese empanada was really good.
The staff were friendly and responsive. Overall, it was a decently good meal.
Coming from an Argentine family, I have grown up with the cuisine at Buenos Aires. So, much of this food is quite nostalgic for me and I know good Argentinean food when I taste it.
I started off ordering a classic, provoleta, which is essentially melted provolone cheese with oregano and tomatoes on top. It was a bit heavy, as you can imagine, but still very well made and authentic.
The next thing on the list to try was the crown jewel of Argentine cuisine (behind meat of course): empanadas. Onion and cheese ones to be precise. I did not have high hopes for these actually, as I have had far to many delicious homemade ones to ever trust a restaurant to make them. Thankfully my prejudice against these empanadas was mistaken. They actually were very impressive. The filling was tasty, the cheese was perfectly melted, and the dough was delicious. Good job Buenos Aires.
I also ordered mushroom ravioli as my main dish (as you can tell by now I ate a lot…). Although they wont blow you out of the water, and there are many other better mushroom ravioli in the city, they still are satisfying and all the basics were executed well. Al dente, good flavor, and decent sauce (Vodka sauce in my case. You can order them with whatever sauce you wish). Overall a solid dish, although I would eat those empandas all night long next time.
All in all, a very good place to try. It lived up to almost all of my childhood expectations of Argentine food and for anyone else, don't pass this place up.
Great! Went here for NYE dinner. It was a full menu. For apps, we got the empanadas and two salads (Russian and Maria's). For dinner we got the Parrillada Buenos Aires. It's a mix of meats but you get it all, from skirt steak to the ribs to the blood sausage. Some are misses, but for the price it's definitely the better option and size. It says one, but it is definitely for two. For dessert we got the Exotic Bomba which is quite possibly the best fruit based dessert I've had in a while. It tasted like gelato covered in a white chocolate. Super delicious. Will definitely be back for that dessert and the empanadas!
My first time coming here was in July of 2014. I had never tried Argentinian food before.
I was looking for a steakhouse, and this place is what turned up in my search. I'm not sure if steak is considered an authentic Argentinian dish, but it was amazing either way, and so was their wine.
My boyfriend and I were looking to treat ourselves to a nice dinner that isn't necessarily out of our budget, but was more than we typically spend on a meal. In terms of price, your meal isn't going to be a fortune, but it won't be cheap either. Luckily, you get what you pay for.
We started over the chorizo with sauteed peppers and onions. This was my favorite dish. Served immediately after it was finished cooking, still sizzling. It's flavorful and slightly spicy (but not overwhelming).
We shared the 32 oz. skirt steak. Abundant in portion, cooked perfectly to the medium we requested. The chimichurri and other toppings they provide for the steak are delicious.
The mashed potatoes are buttery and contain the small chunks evident of having been made from real potatoes. Some people like that, some don't. I love it.
The service is very friendly. We accidentally knocked over an almost-full glass of wine (oops), and they refilled it free of charge. Definitely appreciate it, and weren't expecting to not have to pay.
I had a white wine from Argentina, dry. I wish I could remember the name of it now. I'll update the review with that at some point. Either way, their wine selection is extensive and caters to both those who want to blow $600 on a bottle and those who would prefer the $9 glass (like me).
The atmosphere is conducive to an intimate date night. The seating is very close together, and it got busy both times I was here, so making a reservation is highly suggested.
Came here for a birthday dinner with a party of 10. It was a pretty small restaurant but we all fit at a large table in the back. The waiters were all super friendly and took great care of us!
The free bread was really great and fluffy. I ordered the spinach/cheese and the chard/egg empanadas, morcilla (blood sausage), and the skirt steak.
Empanadas were amazing! Ooey, gooey, and full of flavor, but not a mess to eat at all. Highly recommend the spinach and cheese one.
Morcilla was pretty good too, but not the best I've had. It wasn't very flavorful and contained too much tendon-y(?) stuff.
Skirt steak was, ugh, fantastic. Super soft and juicy and went perfectly with the chimchurri sauce. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I also tried some of a friend's rib eye and that was great too, but I preferred my skirt steak way over it…that's how good it is!
Sangria was really strong, which is a good thing, and I loved the prominent peach flavor it had.
With it being a birthday party, of course the waiters brought out the celebratory dessert and they did it with such enthusiasm! They snuck out without the birthday boy seeing, got everyone singing and sang along with us. Definitely a great place for a special event. Not sure if I'd return on my own, as it is quite the expensive spot.
Dining here took us back to when we explored Argentina and ate copious amounts of delicious meat and wine.
We loved the feel of this place which seems to be quite authentic. It's not a trendy place but has great food and definitely a lot of regulars. We had a late lunch at about 2:30 on a Sunday and by the time we left the restaurant was full. From memory when we were in Argentina meals were always later than when we wanted to eat.
Things we loved:
– hand cut meat empanadas
– spicy chicken empanadas
– short rib steak (we prefer slightly fattier meat so this was perfect for us – cooked perfectly!)
– house salad – simple but perfect
– dulce de leche pancakes – decadent but definitely worth having even if you're full
– chimichurri – we used all of ours! Amazing!
Things we can miss:
– chorizo
We can't wait to go back again to try the different cuts of meat and eat more empanadas!
For this birthday dinner session, there were 6 of us with a reservation on a Saturday at 6:30. It didn't look too packed then but it got really busy at around 9. You should deffo make a reservation either way.
To start, we had some of their white sangria (the birthday girl gets what the birthday girl wants) which I hated. It tasted like watered down juice. I would not recommend it at all. You should just stick to a nice red – it is a steakhouse after all.
They also give you some bread for the table. I didn't have any because I wasn't that hungry and I was trying to save room for some steak. But everyone else at the table seemed to really like it. They threw in some caprese salad on the house, which was a nice touch.
For our meal, we decided to just order a bunch of things and share it. Here's what we had:
Shrimp salad – this was very standard. There wasn't anything special about the salad (not even an effort to chop it), and the shrimp tasted bland.
Spaghetti Bolognese – I really liked this. At first, I was apprehensive of ordering pasta at an Argentinean steakhouse, but I was pleasantly surprised. The sauce was made well and there was a perfect amount of meat in it. It doesn't look like much but don't knock until you've tried it!
Skirt steak – of the two steaks we ordered, this was the one I liked better, probably because there's no bone and I'm lazy. But they got our medium rare right to our liking, even though every restaurant apparently has their own definition of what medium rare means
Bone rib eye steak – this was great as well. The only reason why I picked the skirt steak over this one was because I had to trim fat and I hate doing that
One thing that was a tad annoying was the tipping situation. Apparently, they had included the tip with our bill, which we paid. They then came back 10 minutes later and said they had to cancel that one, redo the bill so that we add in the tip separately. The waiter said if we don't do it that way, they won't get the tip at the end of the day, which I did not understand at all. This tacked on another 10 minutes to all this bill-sorting business and it was just a bad customer experience.
Overall, the food was good. It was a reasonable price if you have a large group and decide to split everything. But if you come with a smaller group, things would add up quick. I don't mind coming back for some more of that skirt steak!
