  1. This review is for the market not the prepared food in the front of the store. They have a great selection of Italian imported foods and homemade pastas, cheeses, etc. There is a meat market at the back of the store. Prices are reasonable especially when compared to Eataly and more authentic. We always pick up hard to find Italian cookies and biscotti's when in Chelsea Market.

  2. I drop by mostly to get Italian tuna in a jar or can. I don't know what makes so different but Italian tuna is delicious, perfect pairing for Salad Niçoise or drop some in a miso soup, yum!

Anchovies in a jar is another must item. Especially salted ones. It's nostalgic to my childhood memory although my subtropical small island was in Pacific Ocean and we often eat with a seasoning-thirst tofu. On top of it, drizzle EVOO and Italian herbs to round the flavor and make East meets West salad(?).

I also get Parmigiano Reggiano 24 Month, or 36 Month if they have. Those cheese makes every dish I make taste better.

I bought Reggio Emilia butter. The butter was made from Parmigiano cows(?), marked under the butters in a fridge case on the wall. I didn't know what to except but it definitely have me smile. It has an unique Parmesan aroma and taste ….but it's a butter. I always find something new here.

  3. I was impressed to see how many, but mostly how many GOOD things they have there. Living in Brooklyn, next time I need to come organized with cooling bags and a trolley maybe… I think I will shop a lot.
I also see that prices are very good, really competitive.
The place looks very simple and things are easy to find. Everything has a sense.
If you want really good brands of italian food, you need to go there. It's a MUST.

  4. 3.5 A great selection of Italian ingredients can be found here. It appears that many of the shop's items are imported and there is also a decent selection dedicated to organic and gluten-free items if that floats your boat.

What's most striking is that there is a huge selection of Italian coffees, honey, cured meats, dried fruits, nuts, dried pasta, semolina and other flours.

You can enjoy the store's ready made foods in a front corner where there are a couple of tables overlooking the grand hall of Chelsea Market.

I have enjoyed the dried prunes and nuts from this establishment. It appears that they acquire the products in bulk and repackage them in smaller volumes.

  5. So… I am from Brooklyn and there are many italian specialty shops that sell the same types of items that Buonitalia sells for half the price. However, if you are in the area and are looking for authentic italian imports then buonitalia is a good option. Whenever I'm in the area I make sure to pick up organic cinnamon and nutella, both are well priced. You can also get a nice sized black summer truffle for $20 to $25 dollars. It beats the $100 you'd pay at Eataly. Overall buonitalia is a good place to indulge on a nice treat.

  6. Wondering inside Chelsea's market and stumbled into this…its an Italian market…so many assorted produce… Fine selection of pastries…I thought this place was nice…clean…and pretty convent for local shoppers…this is not my kind of supermarket so I didn't really purchase anything just walked around and browsed…but it is really organized and the stuff is fresh so it makes the food shopping process that much more fun!

  7. I still absolutely love this store! We have discovered their burrata and it is second to none! Delicious, creamy and fresh! It didn't need any olive oil or sea salt. It was delicious on its own.

Their coffees and olive oils are terrific. Their marzipan is super fresh and tasty. The fresh pasta is also delicious.

The prepared food is also delicious. My girls are big fans of their pizza and pasta. I love when they have their marzipan based desserts. Totally delectable!!

The service is always friendly and helpful.

  8. We have been going to this place since it opened at least ten years. ChelseaMarket struggled in it's early years when lots of stores came and went. Does any one remember Portico? The crowds really didd't start showing up until maybe 4-5 years ago. More or less a tourist invasion. One of the original places is BuonItalia.  They is an extensive selection of food imported from Italy. Dozens of unusual shapes of pasta along with cheese and nuts.
There is also a deli where they will solve any of there salumi or other cured meats. There is also a cash only prepared food area with a few tables. We go there every so often when we get the urge.
We really like this place, but watch out, it isn't cheap. Best not to purchase too many bags of $14.99 imported cookies.
