Came here after fixing my phone screen in the area and didn't know what to expect about this little place boasting organic burgers and a full open bar. I was surprisingly very very impressed! The guy serving us was very nice and offered us his recommendations I got the "burger bound" burger (think that's what it's called) and it was amazing! Served just right with ham and an egg. TRUFFLE FRIES ARE A MUST! Colors in here are nice too, a nice shade of orange and green and there is even a lil outdoor seating. 4 stars!
This place is amazing. The food! The drinks! The service! Everything I've ordered off the menu was amazing. From the burgers to the drinks. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Must try burgers however if you were to ventue off in reguards to the menu any choice would not be a disappointment. Its nestled in the heart of the Ironbound in a kind of residential area so its easily overlooked, however it is a gem worth discovering. If in the area must try!
This place is awesome. Solid 4 stars. Me being the foodie I am discovered this place through yelp. Though I live in JC I never really venture to Newark. Today was the day that changed – burger bound reminded me (aesthetically) of fresh & co in the city -it's bright with pops of color and very cute with an outdoor space that would be perfect for an intimate dinner party.
It wasn't packed at all when I went there (Saturday afternoon) but the staff was amazing. Super attentive and friendly. Is this place Brazilian? Portuguese? Yo no se. But my money is going on Brazilian based on the music selection.
Now let's get to the realness – the food. I ordered the bb special and Parmesan truffle fries: carb-y, meaty goodness! The burger was DELISH – a little well done though. I'm normally a stickler for that but really didn't care today bc it was so tasty. the fries were very good. Unlike most places they evenly distribute the cheese throughout instead of just piled on the top. I want to try the black bean burger next.
In short, this is a fun random spot with amazing food! Definitely check it out:)
I generally liked Burger Bound and think it's a cool spot to visit in the Iron Bound. It serves as an awesome place to get dinner before or after a Red Bulls game, as its only a 20 minute walk from the Red Bull Arena. That said, I really, really wanted to like Burger Bound a little more than I actually did. Even though I give it 3 stars, take it more as a 3.5 as the rest of my experience was good.
Let me get the negative out of the way first and say that I expected way more from the burgers. It's a burger spot! Therefore, I'd imagine that the burgers would be neater and a bit tastier than they turned out to be. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. There was no trace of buffalo dressing in the sandwich, the chicken was a bit dry and the whole sandwich looked like it was haphazardly tossed together. It would look like something I'd make for myself with leftovers if I had been out drinking all night; kind of tasted like that too. So Buffalo Chicken Sandwich would be more accurately described by 'Drunk Uncle Leftover Deluxe'. My brother got a burger which looked more appetizing but was also suffering from the Picasso-esque burger construction in the back with way larger bread than is close to necessary. That's disappointing from a bona-fide burger joint. Especially since these are fairly high prices for Newark, I expected matching quality and was disappointed. I'm a big Bareburger fan and it just feels like you get way more bang for your buck in quality for equally health-conscious food, where the pictures on Yelp and on their website actually reflect what you'll get. The pictures on Yelp compared to what actually comes out at Burger Bound is so brutally dissaponiting. On the bright side, there is more of a dinner menu outside of sandwiches and burgers, so you can try that. I haven't on this particular visit.
Ok, so let's focus on the good. Service was impeccably friendly, the sangria is strong but outrageously delicious and the other items we ordered (sides of sweet potato fries and onion rings) were pretty damn pleasing. But those are fried, incredibly basic items to get right so it wont win back many points. Where Burger Bound really had me was the space. It's clean, simple, and pleasant with a beautiful wooden outdoor backyard. If not for anything else, grabbing a seat in the back with a sangria or other drink on a warm day or evening would be worth coming for alone. I just really hope they get the aesthetic and functional aspect of a sandwich down. Otherwise, I do recommend coming here if you're trying to have a meal on a night of soccer-watching instead of stadium food.
I came back here Sunday night. Not only do they have an awesome Pan Seared Salmon served with Spinach and Truffle Oil Mash Potatoes. I decided to have the Salmon Burger. Delicious! I will say, their other burgers were kinda small for the bun they rested on. They need to beef up their patties, or else you might get some people that will get upset with that. Other then that, food is great~ Try the Bean Cakes, Delish!
The first time I saw this place was during the walk from the car to Red Bulls Arena months prior in the middle of the night; must have been foreshadowing. I remember it standing out to me; it was so modern and progressive in appearance. This was augmented even further by the fact that it was nestled in between a bouquet of homes. When we got here I kept having déjà vu because I knew I had seen this place before.
The inside felt even more hip and chic. The interior was super clean, sleek and presentable. This is funny, because the food is handled the same way. The truffle and parmesan fries not only looked good, but tasted good as well. I bet the furniture is delicious too. My cheeseburger was flawless. It tasted ridiculously "clean" too. I don't normally eat red meat, but this certainly stood out.
Even the cranberry juice I had tasted more refreshing than most.
Speaking of drinks…they have a liquor license. The cost of alcohol isn't bad either and I think they have a Happy Hour.
My burger was about $7 and the fries no more than $4. The juice = $2. So yeah, prices aren't crazy.
I do wish the burgers were a tad bit bigger to be honest. Other than that though, I know I wanna go back for more and try the outdoor area.
I need to go back for the crepes.
Oh Burger Bound! So thrilled that I've found you! Burger Bound is everything any foodie would look for in a restaurant. The food is fresh and delicious! I mean including the actual dishes that are on the second page don't limit yourself to just eating the burgers. I had the salmon and it was made with so much love and cooked to perfection. The top had a nice layer of crust that blew my mind. I also had the truffle mac and cheese that they make with a blend of three cheeses. I am a cheese freak so I instantly feel in love. Also the staff!! The staff is amazing. So welcoming, so warm and knowledgeable. I felt at home. They have karaoke on Fridays and it starts at 10pm which won me over immediately. The bartenders are experts at caipirinhas, margaritas and much more. They're full of energy and enthusiasm which is so contagious. Come here, come all, you'll love it!
I am pretty sure I am extremely slow, because it has been about a year since I first came to the restaurant and I literally JUST (as I was updating my review) realized that Burger Bound is named as such because they are located in the Ironbound.
Anyways, I hadn't been here since they updated their menu and got a liquor license so I decided to check it out. I cam here around 9:30 and they close at 10. They were still really nice, did not make me feel rushed (even though I was the only customer), and made me feel welcome.
When they first added their dine-in menu (in addition to the burgers and fries and other stuff that has always been on it/still is), I thought to myself "why go to a place with Burger in their name for that?" However, I am definitely glad I did, and I will be back!
I ordered the salmon which came on a bed of spinach, topped with mashed potatoes, topped with the salmon. It came in a bowl like dish which was the only thing about it I would change (the spinach caused the bottom to become a little watery). The spinach was seasoned well and the mashed potatoes were the perfect consistency and delicious; I couldn't really taste the truffle but they were still really good. Salmon fillet was perfectly cooked, really nice crispy coating and you could tell the fish was fresh. Not only was each component good by itself, but everything was balanced and went together nicely.
Also, the sangria is probably the best I have had in the Ironbound. Seriously, better than almost all of the Spanish restaurants I have gone to which is kind of sad, but another reason to come back here. And at $7 for a pretty big glass, it is definitely worth it.
I was kind of indecisive between 4 and 5 stars, but I round up because I think it is a great addition to the neighborhood, you can tell they care about the quality of the food they serve, and the service is always friendly. I wish they played different music though (loud techno type stuff was playing each time I went).
