“I felt like Goldilocks at this place- I wasn't out of place in my suit like the LES and I didn't feel like a schlep compared to the Thursday third avenue scene.”

This bar is right across the street from my job and has witnessed some of my very stressful days. The bartenders are awesome!!!
IDK, the Feng shui at this place is all discombobluated … it's a decent bar , good pour. The apps we had for a work happy hour were decent. But, when your in here on a thristy thursday, good lucking getting in an getting to the restroom. Like I said the Feng of the layout is a nuisance.. it is what it is
Surprised me here. Normally I don't venture into bars for food but this place def opened my eyes. Had their Korean wings which were great and their prosciutto flatbread with goat cheese, figs, and honey. Def loved the flatbread although I don't like figs. Would recommend this place for lunch but my friend had the blt salad and it was served to him in two chucks of ice berg lettuce… Kind of odd to me. They should prob chop it up next time when serving it to customers.
Very mixed reviews of this place. I came here twice for two different parties. The first birthday party I came to, was amazing. we did the open bar package for $35, and there was a friendly male bartender who was very nice and attentive. Music was great and there was plenty of space to mix and mingle. Had a nice mix of top 40 hits, remixes and throwback music.
The second time I came for my friend's engagement party, we had a female bartender. She was very standoff-ish and not attentive at all. For a solid 30 minutes she left the bar, and there was no one to get our drinks. I have no idea where she went. The drinks she made were also extremely weak, and were always only half filled. If you're going to make a weak gin and soda, at least fill the cup up with soda water so that way I don't have to keep coming back for more every five seconds.
Not sure if I would come back here after that second experience. Will have to think about it.
So during the Pride Parade, this was the only bar on the block that about 500 – 1000 people were located on. We had no other options, as they basically lock you into your assigned street. Not sure how the manager didn't forsee this happening, but only ONE BARTENDER (ONE UNO ONEEEE) was working that day. Like, what??? It was a shitshow, as you can imagine, and then became a literal shitshow when the toilets overflowed and they kicked the crowd out. Not a solid showing, Butterfield 8.
I was lucky enough to travel to NYC for a corporate event held here last night. One day I would like to come back because the place has more potential than being just 3 stars and It is disappointing that this is the best i can do in clear conscience.
The Spring rolls and the sliders were very good. The chicken skewers were alright. I did not have any entree's,. The drinks were Ok and the bartender was nice, when they were finally able to hear you after saying "what" 3 times.
The place is just too narrow and small. The bar area and party room is so small that it is crazy to even have a back room, which fits next to nobody and having one seems just pointless to me.
The food and ambience is nice and it is not an overly crowded area for Manhattan. I just felt the experience could have been better.
Standard pub food. Had the French onion soup and nachos; both were good. Most people seemed to be regulars but I was still treated with the most attentiveness and politeness by the female bartenders. Impressed by the service.
Butterfield is pretty standard as far as midtown bars go. The decor is sophisticated and suits the suits who come here for after-work libations. What wasn't so standard was the DJ spinning Top 40s tunes at volumes more suitable for clubbing on a Thursday at 6:30pm with no dance floor in sight…. Having to shout so your friend sitting 2 feet from you can hear really detracts from the ambiance.
We sat at a big, comfy booth adjacent to the bar, which was great, but we had one of those servers who stopped by every 5 minutes to ask if everything was okay. I never understood the practice of waitstaff checking in more than once during a meal, but I digress.
I can't really speak to the food because my friend and I only had a salad and a cheese platter, which were average. The prices are pretty good; the food, 2 HH wines ($5 each), and tax+tip totaled to ~$45.
Yelpers, take note: The check-in offer is NOT for a free drink, as advertised; it's buy one, get one. Still a pretty good deal, but I really, really despise false advertising.
