I've been wanting to try this bakery since they have came to Park Slope, but honestly I'm way too lazy to walk up the seventh avenue, so when they came to fifth I made sure to get my lazy behind up, and walk over there with the kiddies. I absolutely loved the raspberry cookie, I had one there and had to order four more to go! Most defiantly enjoyed it the next day also with some coffee. I also tried the Nutella cookie, only was able to take a bite because my husband stole them from me…lol yea they were that good! The kids had cupcakes, I believe the vanilla and strawberry, and also the chocolate one. I didn't taste them, but they loved it, my son even asked for a second. So happy that I'm able to take a quick walk over there without having to walk up the hill to seventh avenue! Welcome to fifth!
Park Slope is teeming with new businesses, including this new bakery on Fifth Ave.
We had three cookies (all of them were super rich):
– Salted Nutella: warning: this cookie literally melts in your hand so it's messy but so so worth it. It had the consistency of a super moist brownie with a deep pocket of Nutella in the center
– Triple Chocolate: my least favorite of the three, though by no means unsatisfying.
– Vegan Gingersnap: I hesitate with vegan products given some horrible past experiences, but this cookie shattered stereotypes. By no means healthy, the cookie is still moist (possibly from maple syrup) and the ginger comes through really nicely.
Space-wise, it's very small unfortunately with only one table and a window bench seat. I would say that it's more of a stop and go type shop.
Dessert heaven!! I will admit to only going to this sinfully sweet shop once every few months no matter how many times I'm in Park Slope because I spend waaay too much money buying macaroons, cookies, cakes and cupcakes for myself, friends and family.
Personally I'm partial to the cakes. The Nutella Pecan is inspired by God! I really have never tasted a better pecan pie and that's one of my favorite types of pie. I guess nutella makes everything better.
My mom and sister are crazy about the macaroons which are just PERFECT and come in so many flavors.
If you're in Park Slope this place is NOT to be missed.
Much like their first location in the slope on 7th Ave, this new Buttermilk outpost brings the goods. They took over the space formerly held by Trois Pommes (sniff, sniff) and as much as I loved that place, you can't ask for a much better replacement. Everything here is bonkers.
I find solace in the fact that I can now get a chocolate nutella sea salt cookie on either 5th or 7th Avenues. I suppose some hard decisions will need to be made if/when I get the craving on 6th Ave, but I'm sure I'll figure it out!
The Most Boring Man In The World (aka, me): "I don't often order vegan cupcakes, but when I do, I order them from Buttermilk Bakeshop".
That is the truth. I could not tell the difference between the regular stuff and the vegan stuff. Someone went "Wow! Did you make these??", and I was like "Hell yes, cuz I'm a master baker who just chooses to toil away in mediocrity, choosing only to bust out my mad vegan baking skillz when my lactose intolerant friends are in danger of starving at a party." I'm just that kinda guy.
But seriously, this is a great little shop. We ordered a little vegan chocolate cake, and 24 cupcakes (some of those vegan as well). Lots of options, lots of flavors, but with some helpful advice, we were able to lock in our order within a few minutes and had a smooth pickup a week later. It's a little more expensive than your average bake shop, but when your friends end up thinking you're a master baker, it's worth it.
