Good. But no umbrella shades outside. : [
One of the few times when I wish I could rate each aspect of the experience individually. The service was excellent, staff are pleasant and cordial at all times. The atmosphere is just right. The multiple times I've been here for brunch, have never left disappointed. Hence, my strong interest in giving Buttermilk Channel a try for dinner. Oh how I wanted to love it! Alas, it wasn't meant to be as pleasing.
For dinner tonight, we ordered the Waffles with Fried Chicken – "dish we're known for", as well as the beer-steamed mussels, and sides of asparagus and mashed potatoes.
Quite frankly, my initial reaction was – "OMG!" but then I had a few more bites …. I can't say everything was just terrible. It really wasn't; however, it all fell so short of the expectations set by my own past experience, as well as that of others (and the various reviews). The further into the meal we got, the more I wanted to ask – "did the chef have an accident with the salt?" Absolutely everything was just entirely too salty (and I do love salt btw). It completely overwhelmed any other flavors I tried to hold on to.
Aside from that, the mashed potatoes were very good … almost good enough not to pay attention to how salty they were. The chicken – moist on the inside and crispy on the outside, just how it should be but … well you know, the salt … the mussels, we were really not impressed with and I won't even mention the S word again …
It was very gracious of the GM to offer dessert on the house but being that were were quite full, we politely declined. She was kind enough to comp the asparagus and the mashed potatoes.
So sad … may be another time …
See picture.
That French Toast with syrup and pecan was heavenly. And that iced latte is probably the best in the area.
I've come here a few times and never had a chance to eat here because of the wait, but I gave it a try thinking that the only way to get a table is a table for one. And I did, gladly sat at a table instead of a bar (you'd think they'd seat me at the bar).
I originally wanted to try their pancakes cause when you speak of pancakes in NYC, Buttermilk Channel is always high up there in the rankings. But that French Toast caught my eyes and I just couldn't resist, it turned out that it's warm, crispy on the outside, sweet, with a soft texture that melts away in your mouth. It's so buttery.
I ordered a side of harsh browns and they were so tasty and crispy without being burning hot. Their staff is quite friendly, even though the hostess could be a little "cold" to my liking but she got me a table. 🙂
I am dying to come back for other dishes.
Group of four- not one complaint. Need I say more? One regret- after I went, everyone said "I hope you had the chicken and waffle." I didn't.
Came here during a weeknight with reservations. It was not too packed, but the seating is pretty tight.
There was a special that night for Monday night. $38 for 3 course menu.
Summer Salad: it was good. It was warm though. I was expecting a coldness to it, but it was tasty.
Buttermilk Fried Chicken: Cheddar waffles and cabbage slaw. The chicken was good, but it was about par compared to all the fried chicken I've had.
hand cute fettucine: this was flavorful. I enjoyed it. I liked this better than the fried chicken.
Mini Pecan Pie: My favorite part of the meal. They did this right. I'd come back just for this.
Overall: I'd come back for the mini pecan pie sundae.
Came here for Sunday Brunch. Packed as expected but I arrived much earlier than the rest of my party (1.5 hours) and the front of house was very accommodating. She kept us in mind and once the whole party arrived we were seated very quickly.
I ordered the short rib hash and it was very rich and flavorful. Imagine a corned beef hash with a more gamey taste.
The pancakes were something I'd definitely come back and order instead. They were so huge and fluffy and a competitor to some of the top pancakes in Brooklyn.
If you go, make sure to head over around opening time to get seated quickly as this is a hot spot!
I think this place is definitely overprice for what it is worth. The portions were small. My pouch eggs with smoked salmon were good however there were barely any food and it is more expensive than the large porkchop with waffles my friend has got. My friend's waffle was burnt. I don't understand what's the hype of this place. My dinner last night was half of what I ordered here. The hash brown was expensive for two pieces. Got coffee, ice coffee and mimosa. The mimosa was alright.
I had dinner and brunch here, and I have to say I loved their friend chicken (dinner) and pork chop (brunch). Great service and loved the shared table concept (in center of the restaurant). Brunch gets busy but you should know that already!
