I feel like writing a review is pointless. Like what am I supposed to add? This stuff could not taste better if baby Jesus chewed it for you.
I've had the patacones and the arepa usually chicken. I also do the cheese sticks. I always drink the maracuya. I tried a tres leche wasn't a fan. But I don't go here for Dessert.
Service is always helpful. My only disappointment is that they don't have frequent flier miles…
Excellent food, but you must review your order if you don't order in spanish, when I asked for a two meat selection, I got two sandwiches, but staff was apologetic and friendly.
The chorizo was amazing, and I'd definitely come back when in the Bronx.
The interior is simple, picnic style benches, the selection of hand held foods are impressive, the flavor is absolutely front and center.
The maracucha, a super sized Venezuelan hamburger, was delicious. But with some of that red salsa it was amazing. Wash it down with one of the tastiest aguas frescas I've had in a long time and serve it up at an hour that most honest people are asleep and you'll make one gringo VERY happy.
Every time I go here I order the pataton with the yellow plantain. This is called the Yoyo; it is very tasty but it's huge. If you think that you may not finish it my tip is order the yoyo is the only patacon that you can really re-heat. The green plantain one will get hard and wont taste the same. I like the chinola juice (Passion Fruit). The palito de queso are ok. I mean it's cheese wrapped in dough. It is what it is! nothing spectacular. The place is a small and a little divey. I honestly don't know if they have a rest room I have never used it. The staff is friendly but be prepared to talk fast and listen fast.
Pros:
-Patacon
-Chinola Juice
-Near the train station
-Near Bars and Lounges
Cons:
-Don't reheat your patacon at home. Only if is a yoyo.
-The place is small
-THERE'S NO PARKING EVER
Wow. I wish this place wasn't so far from me.
I also wished that when I was ordering, the cashier spoke to me in english and not spanish, but this place is so good that I take responsibility for that. It's totally my fault! It was really busy and I shouldn't have lost most of my spanish speaking abilities I was raised with as a child.
After a few drinks, I came here with friends since one of them lived in the area and had heard great things about it. It was really packed on this particular Saturday night, so we took our food to go. We all had cachapas, mine was with shredded beef. I also had tequenos, which I liked. While my cachapa was hard to eat because it was messy (I literally had sauce dripping everywhere, even down my arm), it was flavorful and huge! I couldn't finish mine, so next time I come, I'll definitely make sure I haven't eaten much.
Great 'after club lets out' food. The arepas are outstanding and made me not miss sopa de pollo, my normal late night craving. Friendly service and great food. Definitely a place to be at 4am if you are out at 4am! Had an arepa with shredded beef and lettuce and tomato, was great. Even the plain, Colombian style arepa with only cheese was tasty. Give it a try. Best late night food in Inwood. Or wherever this is…
Lunch with my Meetup before venturing towards The Cloisters on a Autumn Sunday was plentiful Venezuelan style. Self-serve eat-in or takeout. One uni-sex restroom facility is available on the premise. My Cachapas (sweet corn pancake) Pernil (roast pork) $7.35 is gargantuan portion that I became very bloated and extremely full for the entire day. My accompanied beverage Chicha (rice and cinnamon) $3.00 is overwhelmingly too sweet which it appears to contain milk. Service is attentive and the staff is fluent in English and Spanish. My quest for trying foods of variable ethnic cultures is always open especially in a very diverse densely populated city as New York.
We were headed to the Cloisters and took a little detour to grab some lunch. Yelp pointed us here and it didn't disappoint!
It's definitely a casual place – seating is basically picnic tables, but the food is tasty and cheap. We sampled both the beef and chicken empanadas and found them to be well filled, nicely seasoned and not greasy at all. I had an arepa (chicken) which was freshly made and absolutely delicious, if a little messy to eat. The chicken here is really flavorful and they do have some bottles of sauce if you want to spice things up. I did – their hot sauce is slightly vinegary and "medium" hot.
Prices are extremely reasonable – 4 empanadas, an arepa, a Venezuelan "burrito" and 2 drinks = $20. As a bonus, we got to explore the very cool Washington Heights neighborhood too.
