Sandwiches get pricey and range from ~$8-10 and they're available for you to grab once you step into the small cafe. Small space with a bar for you to eat quickly.
The ingredients are fresh (lettuce is wonderfully crispy) and they're generous with the portions.
I walked in, without checking Yelp. I wanted a simple sandwich for lunch. I opted for special of the day, tuna salad sandwich. It was nothing special of the day, bland and small – really nothing special with $10.34 after tax. One nice gesture was that the special came with a small bag of chips, Cape Cod Potato Chips.
This small sandwich joint is definitely worth the splurge. The sandwiches here are unique and they will custom make anything you request. Also, the carrot ginger yogurt soup is to die for.
My team ordered lunch from Cafe Clementine today since it's close to our print studio. I can't speak to the ambiance etc. of the actual location for that reason, but the food was decent and they delivered everything quickly and correctly.
I do think $9 – $10 is a bit expensive for a basic sandwich – my Country Ham option came on plain white bread and wasn't toasted – but it was pretty tasty, with plentiful sweet pickles and whole grain mustard. They also don't skimp on the meat in the salads.
When you have such an upbeat name and pretty exterior, the expectation for the food increases.
We had a soup and sandwich, which was fresh, but rather non-descript and pricey in relative terms of the neighborhood. Nice spot for a quick bite, but otherwise the service experience was disengaged and it felt a little McDonaldsish (sorry Mc'ie'D's)
It was such a nice day today….why not go for a walk and pick up a sandwich.
So I picked up a small premade sandwich and a little airport style fruit cup and waited for the friendly cashier to ring me up. She then asked me to fork over $14!? I asked her if she was mistaken, but sure enough, thats how much this stuff cost.
So silly! I mean, the sandwich I got was actually pretty good. So was the fruit cup..but then when i finished it I realized a) I am starving, b) I do not have enough money to purchase more food.
I think in the future I shall just hit up Pret a Manger.
I tried their Caribbean chicken and corn chowder soup. Both could have been seasoned more, they're very one note. The Caribbean chicken was super bland especially considering its namesake, and the corn chowder was all corn. It may sound like a silly complaint, but whatever cream and bacon and potatoes were in there were just drowned out by the corn. But they have better soups than Hudson Market and they're closer than Hale and Hearty, so there you go.
How many chic adjectives can I use to describe Cafe Clementine, an amazing french-inspired grab-it-and-go lunch spot in Tribeca?
Petite- Most good things come in small packages (moi included) and Cafe Clementine is no exception to that rule. It's one of the first things you'll begrudgingly notice about the place if you come here during the lunch rush (12 pm to 2pm) and end up enduring the torturous wrap around lines.
Dulcet- The desserts here–think peanut butter brownies with fudge icing–may bring you past your daily lunch budget, but are not to be overlooked. Even the simple lemon pound cake will remind you of a sweet childhood in France, that you always were envious of but never had.
Elfin- Although the staff isn't exactly charming (I'm sure they warm up to familiar faces as the usual cashier now makes it a point to offer me bread and butter with my soup or salad.), the high quality of the food, especially the most magical mushroom soup, inspires me to check Cafe Clementine's daily specials menu page every morning.
Enough with the words. The food here speaks for itself.
