  1. This place is really tacky. I sat down for lunch and opted for ordering off the menu with a waiter (vs order and pay up front). The service is really odd. The servers are just really awkward- they try to be nice but it's hard to describe how weird it was. Basically I'm never going back. The food was really mediocre- I had a grilled chicken salad with mushrooms and my mushrooms were watery. Yuck!

  2. Things move fast in New York and this new "café" across from F.I.T. is a new addition to the area since I last visited three months–and I'm THRILLED! The F.I.T. area (27th and 7th) is incredibly wanting for good, dine-in options. This place combines a typical New York-type restaurant feel (loud atmosphere, row of tables squished together) with the convenience of fast service and inexpensive food! You can order at the register upon arrival and sit at the bar or be seated for table service. We chose the latter and were pleased with our attentive water and the food. My friend got the Rigatoni pasta for $9 (unheard of in New York) and I opted for four "petitewichs"–which were a dollar each! They were basically small open-faced sandwichs which were good–did I mention they were ONE dollar? I recommend the pork and the chicken. The menu is very large which can often be a bit taxing if you are in a hurry, but a big menu also means lots of options and there are plenty. Salads range from $7-10, sandwiches from $1-8! They also have $3 bottle beers! The prices are unbeatable for the area and the dining experience. I will most definitely be back.

  3. I gotta say I think poor cafe guy and gallard is judged a little too harshly.

It's a fairly new place and new places need time to work out all the kinks before they can shine.

Today I finally gave this little chain cafe a shot after a couple coworkers came back with positive remarks.

The place is very clean and the staff is very friends and quick (although they can easily get overwhelmed and mix things up a bit). The food was pretty good. I got the rigatoni with the mushroom sauce, sausage and broccoli rabe (or so they said) which ended up being regular broccoli. My coworker got the cheese tortellini with "carbonara sauce" which last I checked should include meat but was just an Alfredo sauce. Pizza is a decent size for one person.

Too to the  restaurant… You shouldn't have fountain ice tea, lemon snapper iced tea and peach iced… Long story short, asking for a glass of iced tea and getting the right one was way more complicated than it should have been.

But all of these were small hiccups to me (except for the broccoli rabe! Craving it now!). Overall a nice spot for lunch when decent prices and a nice atmosphere.

Tip: Don't come with more than 4 people.
