Cafe Habana

“A friend took me to Cafe Habana almost 4 years ago…the grilled corn made magical munching moments.”

“The corn is amazing- two ears of corn cut into four pieces with chili powder, creme, cotija cheese and lime, and for $4.”

“Tiny venue/limited seating aside (to be fair we were at the take away side and not the dining area), this place was friggin fantastic.”

  1. There are two great food memories I have while traveling to New York. One of them being: CORN!!!

We got the cuban sandwich and a side order of corn. The cuban sandwich was okay… But OMG just get the corn!!! Get like three orders of the corn for a meal you won't regret it!!! The corn is grilled and buttery and rolled in cojita with i think paprika. It's just amazing, get the CORN!!!

    That is all 🙂

  2. The BOMB. Get the corn. Get the cubano. Get anything. I can eat 2 of the corns easily.

  3. I found this place one day while yelping for what to eat and I was so glad I found Cafe Habana! It wasn't too hard to find, although the restaurant is small and you might just walk past it. My boyfriend and I ordered at the counter. We had the cuban sandwich, the grilled steak sandwich, and the roasted corn. My boyfriend LOVED the cuban sandwich at his first bite. It has roast pork and ham and the citrus sauce brought out the flavors of the sandwich. My grilled steak sandwich had a great smoky flavor to it and the steak was seasoned perfectly! The roasted corn was so good. It had chili powder, cheese, and mayo. Very unhealthy but so worth it! My boyfriend and I was stuffed after our lunch. This place doesn't have many tables or seats so dining in might not be an option if you go during their busy times. Give this place a try! I really feel like I got a taste out of Cuba from the vibes and the food here.

  4. Came here with a friend to try out their famed Cubano. Ever since I had one in Miami, I've been craving one of that caliber.

It was a hot day so we ordered Ice Cafe Con Leche which I didn't care much for. We then both ordered the Cuban Sandwich and I have to admit that it's definitely on par with those I had in Miami. For $8.75, the sandwich was large and came with a small side of fries along with tomato and cucumber slices for contrast. Not much else can be said — the sandwich came out freshly grilled from the plancha, the roasted pork was juicy, and, while I do prefer mustard, the chipotle mayo was very good.

We sat at the bar so service was good. Overall, for the price, this place is definitely worth a try and next time, I'll get their grilled corn as well.

  5. Amazing brunch. Had an iced coffee con leche, the famed corn on a cob and huevos rancheros. Could barely finish it all, and boy, did I want to. I also had a bite of my friend's chicken sandwich and fries – delicious. I will come back here for lunch or dinner for sure!

I also caught them at Governor's Ball and had a delicious Cuban sandwich. Definitely recommended.

  6. Habana has been around for some time, but my first visit was only recent as it was recommended for their great ambience, particularly the summer, plus for the great (summery) food of course. Couldn't agree more; I am a big fan of some good Cuban food, and this might be on a new spot for it on the personal favorites list. I definitely want to go back and try more on the menu, which is mostly, if not all, enticing. An update will be needed but for now, I think this place deserves another 4 star review.

A must order for starters is the Grilled Corn Mexican style. Now you ask why something simple like corn is a must. I apparently have lived under a rock for some time, but this might be the street corns of all street corns, at least here in NYC. Sweet, savory and a bit spicy, it is all delicious flavors, corn is grilled perfectly. Two corns are part of the minimum per order. Highly recommend this dish at it is one of their best known staple dishes. Entrees sounded amazing, yet I decided to go with the Huevos Rancheros a Caballo — Grilled skirt steak and our famous Huevos Rancheros served with rice and beans. My boyfriend had the same. It was definitely a solid choice on both our ends. Portion size was perfect. The steak was cooked just right (medium rare) and was not chewy. With a runny egg on top (I had mine sunny), it couldn't be better. A thin layer or two of tortilla lay atop the steak. The rice and beans were great as a side. All in all, this was a hearty dish worth trying. Everything was delicious.

I'd like to try their Cuban sandwich on a future visit. The food was amazing, and I did enjoy their ambience as well. It is a small but cute corner restaurant with lots to offer. Add this one to your list for Cuban food if you haven't made a trip yet. Note there could be a small wait for a table. It is on the smaller side in terms of space. No reservations taken.

  7. ** There is a cafe, but if you want to get food to go, you gotta go next door! **

Decided to stop by for a midday snack, and we got the elotes (grilled corn with cotija cheese)!
They were $3.50 a piece I believe, and we split two among 4 people! You order and pay at the register, give them your name, and then they call out your name when your order is ready!

The to go area is pretty small, but I mean – it's for people who want to get their food to go, so makes sense. There are a couple of tables and a bar table inside, and a couple of benches outside.

The corn was grilled beautifully! It's messy to eat because all the cheese starts falling, but other than that, no complaints! You get a couple of wedges to lime to squeeze on top – and make sure you do it! It packs another layer of flavor on top – delicious!

Gotta stop by again to try their sandwiches because that's what everyone else was ordering, but in the mean time, that corn will just have to hold me over.

  8. I really like that this place has two locations for their choices of dining.  There's the sit down area, and then there's the smaller shop on the side that is where you can order your take out.  This sort of expedites things I think.  The smaller shop does actually have some seating, albeit limited.

I came here a long time ago, and just revisited.  I gotta say, I've been craving their corn for quite some time (years).  I've had street corn elsewhere, and it never quite hit the spot.  Finally! Satisfaction.  Their corn is WONDERFULLY grilled and packed with flavor.  It's not too spicy to the point of uncomfortably burning lips, but has a great kick and only makes your lips burn a little bit.  They literally pack on the cheese to the point where it's an amazingly thick layer.  It's slightly salty which compliments the actual corn.

I've also had one of their sandwiches.  It was quite a long time ago, but I distinctly remember that I didn't finish it bc it was too much food for me O.o Good portions I guess.

Service is quick and they were consistently great years ago and days ago!  I will be back!
