Looking for a place to sit down and enjoy a salad on my lunch break, I wandered into Cafe K. Not realizing the K stood for Kosher, I felt a little out of place as a woman in pants and a tank, but hopefully it was all in my head.
As other reviewers mentioned, the service is a little off. I had to seat myself and call a waiter over for a menu, call a waiter over to order and same when I needed the check. I was also brought out someone else's meal. It looked tasty but I'm sure it's bad karma stealing someone's lunch!
I ordered the beet salad with grilled eggplant. The presentation of the salad was great and it was plentiful, but definitely overpriced at $12 (especially with no protein or cheese on the salad). It was worth a try but there are thousands of salad places in midtown for half the price.
Great place for fish if you keep kosher. I'm not religious, but my coworker is an orthodox jew so we went here for an office lunch. The salmon filet was cooked well with the skin nice and crispy. Service was quick and friendly. Only thing is we went on a friday so I'm assuming they don't get a delivery and they were out of some menu items.
Pretty much everything (atmosphere, service) was meh but at least the food is pretty good. Decent sit-down kosher lunch spot (once you brave the long queue for a table that is).
Had lunch with a friend and we split a veggie panini and a tuna panini. The veggie was good but the tuna was much better. No sides no frills. As I looked at other tables, the salads looked big and solid. We had two very nice waitresses.
Good quick Kosher lunch option.
Three stars?! Nopes.
Although the service at this location is not the best, and the wait time to get a table or a waiter to look at you could be sometimes crazy, the delicious food makes it all up for it.
Café K is my go-to place whenever I'm in the area and in the need of a GOOD breakfast or brunch, the menu has a big verity of items from the traditional egg omelet to fettuccini to sushi and the list goes on and on…..
Last time I was there we where in for a quick bite, we took some sushi which was delicious and fresh, then we had the poutine which was not bad but nothing to brag about, but the next item really blew me away…. What was it you ask?! A Drink!!! Say what? Yep a simple drink, called the Torino shake, which tastes like someone went up to heaven, scooped up a full bucket of the goodness, and brought it back down for us to enjoy…. The drink consist of almost frozen milk/ice cream with tons of shreds from a delicious kosher Swiss Torino chocolate. (make sure to ask for it when you're there)
In overall I am a huge fan of this place and would definitely return! And to all those Crybaby's that complain about the service, go back to mama's kitchen where she'll serve you the first, and give you a bigger portion then anyone else! (Sigh….)
