Really nice place in the Village. 6 of us went there last night on a friend's recommendation, and we had a great time. This is truly a neighborhood gem, a real sweet place, and you can tell that many of the people were regulars.
One couple decided to order the pate appetizer and the duck for dinner, and loved them both. The other couple ordered a salad and the pork chops to split. My husband had the lamb burger, and I had the mussels. I've eaten mussels at some pretty great places, but these were the best I've had in ages! Fresh, delicious, great wine sauce.
Service was excellent. None of us ordered wine, but they kept our water glasses full at all times. We didn't get any hassle because of the shared dinners, either. Our waiter was great.
This place is great for a romantic meal for two or for a small group. I definitely want to go back for brunch after this.
Délicieux!!!! This little gem has finally been crossed off my bookmarks, and onto my rotation list. Amazing food, romantic and cozy bistro with spacious interior for dining. Bar is a bit small and was packed on Friday by 6pm (but isn't every place with a bar in the village?)
We made a ressy via phone and got there right on time. We were greeted by a nice host who sat us in a corner table, commenting that it's the quieter table (and we didn't even ask for it- kudos!)
The white tables were all set with candles and a postcard wine menu. We ordered a bottle of Malbec. The waiter was hard to get a hold of at times but I ain't gonna hate- seemed like they had quite a number of regulars, and the waiter was kindly greeting them. Not a problem- I wasn't in a rush to get out of there.
There's a prix-fixe 3 course menu at $33, but we passed and got ourselves the pork chops and the yellow fin tuna steak (both around $30 each). BANG FOR THE BUCK- the tuna steak really hit the spot. The sauce it came with was oniony, garlicky goodness, dunked in a soy sauce mixed condiment. The tuna sat beautifully on a bed of mixed, fresh greens and pickled cucumber- all lightly yet perfectly seasoned. The tuna was a bit tough to cut through, but once it entered my mouth, it was sheer heaven.
Didn't try the pork chops since I don't eat pork but the cooked veggies were good. The portion was enormous!!! We ended up having to pack the leftovers to-go, but in no way was it bc I wasn't devouring it enough. It was just a never-ending plate!
The place doesn't get too loud, which was a pleasant surprise, as I thought I could hear an echo when people walked. Whatever noise cancellation system they have or don't have in place, it's working or not needed, at least on the night we were there.
Ooh, happy to add this one to the list as another great brunch spot. It was easy to get a reservation on a Sunday and take advantage of the soothing live jazz! The food is excellent – I had the eggs Benedict with lox and my friend had the French toast. My eggs included a side of delicious potatoes and the French toast came with fruit salad and bacon – and everything is priced very reasonably.
Meh. That's really all I've got. Unmemorable food, rude service, but still decent. Luckily I was with such a great crowd of girls and we had a fabulous time.
I ordered the duck off the specials menu. Cooked well with a great glaze, but I was still hungry when I was done. The sides were pretty horrible and not "French" whatsoever. Rice and a mushy squash/veggie thing? I don't even know what the hell this was.
Our server was the guy I kept reading about in these reviews. Older, thick glasses and ridiculously sarcastic and grumpy. Half of our party was late (yes, I know…slap on wrists) and he kept pushing us to order by saying, "Well, you do know it's Monday and we close early". Ok….bye-bye tip for you!
It's got a comfortable vibe, larger inside than you'd expect and the food is decent. I feel like it's one of those places you have to know what to order on the menu. Oh, and you can BYOWine for a very minimal corkage fee. I liked that.
OMG I love this place. 3 dishes with duck! How can you go wrong? My wife had the breast tender and savory.
I had moules and frites. The broth was to die for. I which I lived here so I could take it home. There was so much I couldn't finish it even with my wife's help.
The service was fantastic. You felt like you were in Paris.
Even saw a movie and tv celeb at the counter.
One of my favorite restaurants in NYC. Albeit small sample size on my end.
I've come twice just for dessert and wine and each time it was a very chill no-nonsense kind of place. No complaints, F&B quality is good, service friendly.
There is a bit of an old timey atmosphere in here, which can be good and bad, depending on your mood. I enjoyed my live jazz or chilled out music, and could see it was a really old old neighborhood sort of place, where there were many regulars and tales to be told. You could easily chat with anyone sitting up at the bar or be left to your own devices at a table.
I had an average meal here last week with a friend. I got the duck which came with some apples on top. It was just okay. I prefer my duck to be juicer and smokier and found this duck to be a little bit bland. But it was a generous portion with good sides. My friend got the tuna and she liked it, but said there was too much horseradish on top. It's a cool looking place. Maybe I'd try it again, but I would definitely order differently.
I used to love, love, love this restaurant. It's a charming, old place that has been a neighborhood gathering place for many years. But my last visit didn't live up to past experiences.
We had the eggs benedict and a pork chop special. They both came with two many little clumps of cooked vegetable side dishes that just didn't add anything to the experience.
Here's my other complaint. The last time I was here for pork chops, I was served two whole chops! This time, it was a little boneless chunk on my plate. Also, service was very slow. Plus, the waitress spoke very limited English — she needed a lot of help from the hostess (they were both Korean).
So I don't know what's going on here. But it will be a while before I go back. Lunch cost us $31, with no drinks or appetizers and that just didn't feel right.
