  1. Cafe Steinhof is becoming one of my favorite neighborhood go-tos. The food is consistently good and the staff is so nice and welcoming. I especially like the hostess, who always has a welcoming smile and comment, and also makes sure to come by during the meal to see if anything is needed. I have now tried many things on the menu, all of which have been good, but honestly the schnitzels are so irresistible that I pretty much order one each time. And I finish the entire thing, even though it hangs over the edge of the plate. This spring/summer they have had a gazpacho special that's dynamite. Not traditional but super refreshing and delicious.  You really can't do better in the Slope for simple, delicious and filling plates for a reasonable price.

  2. Lunch for $15 for 2 sausages and 2 sides is a pretty solid deal. The restaurant decor had a lot of charm, but I found the plate of food I got was a little to big for me. What I mean is that the plate was too big and too one-toned, the flavors got tiring. I probably could have done with half the portion (ie. 1 sausage and less of each of the 2 sides), but it was a solid for the first half. Too much the second half.

  3. Me and the GF had a terrific dinner at the bar. We spent $104.52 before tip (if I can find the deets, I'll add them). It was comfortable and casual. It has a real family feel.

Incidentally, the Sazerac is on the menu. I had one. It was very good. Consider always ordering the Sazerac if you see it on a menu.

TIP: The meat and cheese plate was excellent.
    BONUS: Good value!

  4. Good place for a beer and for some sausages. Very local restaurant/bar. They have outside sitting, always good to have a beer and enjoy the weather.

  5. Steinhof is low-key, but, certainly not divey. I go there to drink a few pilsners with my co-workers. We usually stay for a few hours and always feel welcomed!

Their food is excellent (from what I've tried), prices are decent, and it's a mature, relaxing environment. Natasha is a great bartender and I look forward to seeing her whenever I decide to go. She's a great conversationalist and very accommodating!

    5 stars!

  6. Came here for an informal brunch with a friend. I had the farmers pan which consisted of veggies and potatoes – very hearty and great pick me up. Really nice to sit outside and have a beer as well. Great service. Enjoy!

  7. This was my first experience with Austrian food, and I can say that they've made me a fan!

My boyfriend and I shared one of the schnitzel entrees, a side of bratwurst and he also had an order of sauerkraut. (Shared because I was intimidated by the pictures and though it was going to be a lot of food). Meat and potatoes – sounds like a heavy meal, right? We were actually able to walk away feeling pretty good about ourselves, not too stuffed or full of regret. That tends to happen a lot. BUT NOT TODAY. Anyway, back to the food – the schnitzel was pounded super thin, so our portion size looked pretty huge! Compared to that, it didn't seem as though there was enough of those crispy potatoes. The cucumbers definitely helped give everything a bit of freshness. The bratwurst was also delicious – served warm and juicy.
Tip – beware the mustard. It's strong!

The place itself does look like a café – it's cozy and decorated with a lot of eclectic pieces. It has a very homey feel to it. Definitely helps that service was good. We didn't get judged for butchering the names of the dishes, and our food came out quickly.

  8. Been living here since 2009 and just came here tonight. Why not sooner?

Mussels appetizer is a spicy tomato garlic white wine broth, so good I wish the bowl was bigger!

Chicken paprika is two pieces of bone-in chicken (moist as ever) in a thick tomato-like sauce with spätzle. Why hasn't spätzle come into my life sooner like this place?

Husband liked his chicken schnitzel with potatoes and cucumber salad.

Elder flower spritzer is like a sweeter ginger ale sorta? Either way tasted good!

    "I'll be back!" like Arnold!
