Cafe Viva

“They do, oddly, also offer a lot of non vegan things-a lot of the pizzas are already topped with real cheese.”

“Now I get emails about kosher joints and Torah dedication services and other stuff that doesn't pertain to me, but for Viva, it was so worth it.”

“However, for a health conscious vegetarian, the pizza is delicious, the crust options are plenty, and the delivery service is great.”

  1. Cafe Viva is a pizza place that has great options for those with dietary restrictions! I'm a vegetarian and it's good to see so many available pizza opportunities for me 🙂 Very unique pizza slices here.  My favorite is the azteca slice. It's cornmeal crust with mozzarella cheese, no sauce, red onions and red peppers, and corn. It's a little sweet and savory. Yes, it costs more than a traditional pizza slice but where else can you find something like this? The slices are also pretty large. I love the penne a la vodka pasta dish too. The portions are pretty big for pasta and it also comes with two garlic knots. Pasta dishes are restaurant prices rather than pizza joint prices, but it's restaurant quality too. Definitely stop by if you want to try some pizzas with cool toppings or different kinds of crusts, or if you're a vegan and you miss eating pizza!

  2. This is the first time I eat a vegan meal where I walked away satisfied and I did not feel I was missing something.

The pizza was great, albeit the crust was a little dry. Also ordered a salad. The service was fast and friendly. Definitely returning since I am trying to be more conscious of my health and want to eat healthier options.

  3. Delecious!!!! I would recommend the white pizza. It was awesome! There are so many great pizza shops in this area, but this one has verity and healthy food as well.

  4. I've been looking for a pizza joint around the 90s, and I think I found my weekly to-go spot. I've walked past this place a bunch and finally decided to grab a slice.

First of all, they have a TON of different options. The plain cheese slices are 2 something and special ones are 4 something. I love a good slice of pizza, and a plain slice of cheese here didn't disappoint (I can't speak for the vegan, etc slices). They also have different types of crust like whole wheat, so I'm pretty impressed with their selection and quality of ingredients!

  5. I'm an ues girl. That's my Manhattan and what I know. I've never given the uws much credit . Idk why I just haven't ventured there much. I will say that I love how many places here cater to the vegan and gluten free community. This place is one of those places. And it's not just a single gluten free or vegan option, they have a few different gluten free crust options that have either real cheese or vegan cheese. It's awesome.

The gluten free corn crust left much to be desired and lacked all sorts of flavor. The regular pizza apparently was very delicious , I'm taking my family's word on that here.

The space is small and intimate but I did notice plenty of tween ages people there hanging out eating their pizza and pasta. Oh they also have gluten free pasta 🙂

There are many other options on the uws that cater to the gluten free vegan diet so I probably won't come back here for pizza. Perhaps I'll try the pasta next time.

  6. I went to this spot for the vegan options (I'm fasting) Anyhoo all of the vegan slices don't use the soy cheese; what's  pizza without cheese!?! A tomato-ey mess on bread! Be aware; I'm sure if you'd like cheese (soy or moz) all you'd have to do is ask. I also would not advise eating vegan slices in your vehicle… The fold & bite method is not going to work due to the heavy volumes of sauce & other ingredients (non cheesy). If I go back I'll try another option probably non vegan & if I "go vegan" they may have to build my slice/ pie from scratch; light on the messy!

  7. It's not clear to me how a pizza place like this averages 3.5 stars. Are the standards on the UWS that low?

While they have a nice selection of different slices of pizza (from full-meat to cheese to vegetarian) the slices I got were completely burned – and it's only due to my drunken self and the late hour that I didn't bother complaining about it. What's ridiculous though is to charge you for two regular slices and then ask for another $4.50 because apparently the slices I picked were not "regular". Way to overcharge your customers.

  8. Cafe Viva makes solid NYC pizza with a multitude of vegan options, as well as alternative crust options such as whole wheat, spelt, etc. I have never visited the UWS location, but have ordered delivery dozens of times and am never disappointed.

My favorite pizzas are the Sicilian, Picante, and Santa Rosa, all vegan. Their tomato sauce is really excellent here-perfect level of spice. I am not a huge fan of the amount of daiya cheese they load on top of it, but it makes for a delicious occasional treat. Delivery is consistently fast and friendly.
