  1. Date night here in the summertime was truly utterly amazing with the fantastic service emblematic of old school Brooklyn Italian places of times past, kept alive. The menu is rich and changes over time so frequent diners won't bore. The lamb over thin linguini is a clever dish. The bread beforehand is toasted right with real butter. There's a deep wine menu with knowledgeable staff to help you pair it. The location just 3 mins East of the DeKalb Ave station is very convenient and safe across the street from a hospital entrance. We shall return in the winter for the warm interior design with exposed brick & plumbing.

  2. I had a major pasta craving, so I looked for the closest place to Atlantic/Barclays and Caffe e Vino was the winner.

This is one of those Italian restaurants that I have been wanting to go to for years, but never had the chance. I find that Italian restaurants are so hit or miss. Either they are just bland pastas with red sauce or they are flavor filled and unique, but it's hard to tell which is which since they are so ubiquitous in this City.

The homemade spinach/ricotta gnocchi w/ brown butter sage sauce is unbelievable. It literally melts in your mouth. I have never had anything like it. The last time I had memorable gnocchi was in Venice. I have only been here once, but I still remember each bite of that dish.

Caffe e Vino is completely under the radar, but takes you by surprise.

The calamari was also lovely, as was the rugula salad which had a zesty and fresh lemon dressing.

  3. This lovely gem of a restaurant has quickly become my favorite to frequent for dates with my guy. The food has consistently been superb as well as the wine selection. Always a joy to eat here and feel the love.

  4. It's a good idea to check your receipt and take cash.  Three of us went there to eat prior to going to the Harvey theater. Tables are close together   We were the first ones there with a 4:30 reservation and the door was locked when we arrived but they opened it for us. The waiter didn't know what the specials were yet-said the cook was working on it. Later, he told us the specials which included veal scallopini. The salad was very good. Two of us ordered the veal scallopini and what we were brought was a veal roll. We were surprised but thought that might be their version. However, 2 celebrities that they had squeezed in sitting next to us got what actually looked like veal scallopini. When it came time to pay the bill, there was a note to remember the gratuity and please pay in cash. We put down a credit card. We were told their machine was not working and it would be at least 20 minutes to get it going (it was 20 minutes before the performance). Fortunately we were able to come up with the cash. We also noticed that they had already added the gratuity to the bill so the note to remember to give a gratuity would trick some people into adding more cash. Having now reviewed  other reviews out of curiosity, I see they got the same story about the cash. They should state it up front when you make a reservation so that you are prepared. Food was fairly good but not getting what we ordered, being asked for a gratuity when it had already been added and telling us a story about the credit card machine not working all add up to never going there again

  5. Service here is top notch- had dinner with a friend here the other week. The owner came up to us and formally introduced himself.
The service pretty much made up for the cold food. All of the dishes had the potential to be amazing but weren't warm at all. Or they were oddly warm in the center but cold on the outter edges, leading me to believe that it was not fresh, or left out too long.

I would give this place a second chance solely because the customer service was so amazing and the attention to the individual was nice and very neighbor hood like!

  6. Really cute Italian spot in Brooklyn. Excellent service and great food. You can bring your own bottle for a corkage fee. I came with three people and we had:

    Calamari fritti e zucchini
    Linguini con gamberetti
    Fettucine al Ragu di vitello
Rigatoni con melanzane: I normally don't like eggplant because it gets super mushy however this was cooked perfectly
    Tiramisu

  7. Huge fan- I came here a couple weeks ago on a surprise date and it was perfect. Its a small cozy authentic italian spot. We were seated as soon as we arrived and they even asked us where we wanted to sit [booth or table] even though they were a little crowded.

We ordered spinach soufflé and calamari for appetizers and they were both really good! The calamari was a big dish definitely enough for two. Thereafter I ordered the spinach and cheese ravioli in herb and butter- DELICIOUS!!! It was absolutely perfect I felt like I was back in italy. My boyfriend ordered the salmon and it was cooked to perfection. It is hard to find a spot that makes salmon well and they are definitely one of them.

For dessert we got the creme brûlée and the tiramisu both of them were phenomenal. We finished both of them with our lattes and had no regrets.

I would highly recommend people come try this restaurant if they are looking for authentic italian food; especially since its so hard to find.

  8. We have been here a few times as we live in the neighborhood and have been impressed each time with the quality of the food.  Located on an unassuming block across from Brooklyn hospital, it looks like any other italian restaurant in the neighborhood.  However, we've quickly discovered it's much more than that!  The food is fresh and made from scratch, the wine list is varied, and the restaurant is small but adorned nicely.  As for favorites, the Fettucine with Veal Ragu is out of this world and is a must-try!  We've also enjoyed the Papperdelle Caffe Y Vino (has some mushrooms) and the salads have all been fresh and the perfect size to share.  The staff is friendly but not overbearing and it's definitely a slow moving vibe so be sure to come early if you have evening plans!

    Tip:
-They accept Open Table reservations to plan to make one if you hope to not have to wait as it can fill up quickly!
-Take a stroll in Fort Greene park (a block away) after your filling meal!
