Have you tried the red velvet cheesecake?? If not, you are missing out on one of the greatest discoveries of the century: a thick slab of cheesecake sandwiched between two moist layers of red velvet cake…seriously, who woulda thunk? But it works, and it is magical. It also only costs a mere $7 for a HUGE slice of cake. Five of us split it as an after-dinner dessert and we still couldn't finish it.
Unfortunately, Cake Ambiance only gets three stars in my book because the owner/head baker, who was the only one in the shop that day, seemed really unhappy about and unwilling to help us out with samples and recommendations. I would think that someone who spends all his time working with sweets would be a little sweeter…
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he was having an off-day. Still, his unfriendly demeanor was very off-putting for me since it was my one free night out with my friends and I just wanted to have a good time.
A lovely message from the owner (sent to me personally, via Yelp):
Christopher P.:
"I'm all for people having an opinion. Only because we all have our individual minds and thoughts. You on the other hand seem to go around looking for the worst in each business and depict what you think should have happened in your head as I read all your reviews. Do you think that's fair. I work at a black own business that you recently offered your critique about. I really think it was over the top considering you and one other person from 4 years ago gave us a negative review. We work extremely hard in creating a friendly environment for all our faithful customers. Yes we could use a fresh paint job but while we are extremely clean and have an A posted on our window from the proper people who are clearly licensed to judge, that doesn't give you the right to rate us on our cleanliness! Yes our prices are high but did your ever think maybe I should ask why? Well let me tell you since you clearly don't have a business of your own and you don't know what it takes to run a business; hight rent, employees, special ingredients, electricity and supplys. Now when people like you complain just to complain on yelp you don't realize that your review may contribute to our prices going up. We are one of a couple of black own family businesses still around in this neighbor, I would think you would be happy for us that we are surviving. Bottom line you should receive all the information before you judge or right a review."
Who does this?
It's cake
It's sweet
It's kind of expensive for the neighborhood
They get five stars because they give samples of all their cakes
I consider myself the dessert conniseur. Any of my friends will agree that I only eat that crack dessert – Deserts so good you need another hit immediately. The desserts at Cake Ambiance are so good. The decor appears as if no work or baking or anything for that matter was done in the shop the whole day by the time you arrive to make your purchase. But when you arrive, they have some bomb ass deserts ( mostly cakes, brownies, flans, etc. ) waiting to be purchased. Though, I have not tasted everything, in my heart I know that everything taste yummy yum licious.
The only disclaimer, on both occasions the place smelled like feet. So if you can walk and function past the stink feet, boy oh boy, you are in for some tasty ass treats!
Jude simply makes the best cake EVER! Not only does he make my favorite staples but he is always encouraging to to try something new. I love the red velvet with cheesecake, the German chocolate, the sweet potato cake, the rum cake… Should I say more, always plenty of samples on hand too!

After a basketball game at Barclays Center and eating ice cream at Sky Ice, I still wanted more, since I was already in Brooklyn. My always handy dandy Yelp app told me to go to Cake Ambience, and of course I did.
Don't expect much decor from this place – it's about as basic as it gets and reminds me of a bodega for some reason. They had only 1 kind of cupcake – red velvet, and maybe 4-5 kinds of cake including red velvet cheesecake, pistachio, strawberries and cream, and pistachio. $8 a slice… not cheap.
I got the red velvet cupcake because the slices of cake were way too massive. While the cake was moist, it was too sweet, and very much overpowered by the frosting. The frosting actually tasted like cream cheese unlike other places, which I liked, but the frosting to cake ratio was just off – wayyy too much frosting.
Credit card minimum is $10.
One day last year my boyfriend and I were walking past this place and a man standing outside offered us a sample. Ever since then Cake Ambiance has been one of our "go to" establishments.
I feel like the interior is a little bit misconceiving. It's a small store front tucked away close to busy Flatbush; however, the desserts that this place pumps out are exceptional! On our 1st stop in we tried a few samples but the sweet potato pie/cake stole the show. It's got such an amazingly sweet but not overly sweet sweet potato taste. The crust is soft and chewy unlike an ordinary pie crust.
The service is always quick and speedy. In the future I'd like to try more of their sweets; however, usually when I'm here I'm picking up several slices of the sweet potato pie/cake. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone who has a sweet tooth or is in need of a special dessert to share with others.
Wow…. The phrase "Never Judge a book by it"s cover" comes to mind when it comes to cake ambiance. This place is a true hidden gem in the Flatbush area. I usually travel the city to tasty treats and deserts but now I never have to again!
Cake Ambiance makes some of the most decadent and delicious cakes I've ever had in my life! I love sweets! They are my weakness and this place is my heaven! The owner truly has gifted hands. His warm and friendly approach just makes the entire experience even better!
During my visit he let me sample so many of his awesome deserts. So far I've tried the sweet potato cake, butter delicious, pistachio cake, the banana pudding cake, chocolate cake, pineapple coconut cake and the ooey gooey pecan brownie!
Everything I've tried has been beyond my expectations. His sponge is one of the most moist and flavorful sponges I've ever tasted. I'm almost tempted to say this IS the best cake I've had and honestly I wouldn't be lying. His cakes actually taste like their ingredients, no fluff and nothing artificial here…!
The banana taste like banana, the strawberries taste like strawberries, the snozeberries taste like…(You know where this is going)
Get here! And get here fast! You can buy cake by the slice ($7) or whole cakes! Whatever you buy you won't be disappointed! Cake Ambience will create and ambiance of pleasure for your taste buds! Enjoy!
